As the title says! The latest movie I watched was Fire and Ice from 1983. I've been watching a lot of older animation movies lately and this was next on my list. The story and the pacing of the movie was pretty mediocre, but I loved the background paintings and that old-school visual style of this movie a lot!
I finally saw Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I really liked it, but it's definitely got a lot of Sam Raimi-isms that a lot of people seem to dislike. I thought the silliness and comic-bookiness really added to it though.I saw Multiverse of Madness recently too. I thought the plot as a whole was just kinda alright, nothing especially interesting to me, but I liked that it more-or-less took itself seriously (my biggest issue with most of the MCU), and the visual style was amazing thanks to Sam Raimi. I think I'll always prefer comic book movies that embrace being comic book movies rather than ones that feel embarrassed of their roots. Also, the music fight scene was the best part of that movie, and probably my favorite fight scene in any Marvel movie.
A couple of days ago, I saw The Fifth Element, and I'll have to agree that comic book movies are a LOT better when they're embracing their roots! While not based on any comic book, it is very strongly influenced by the Franco-Belgian comic books of yore, and it holds a unique style that admittedly, does scream "90s vision of the future", but still looks great to this day! Admittedly, the plot's the typical "save the universe from destruction" thing, but there's a surprisingly compelling world and memorable characters in the film. (And who can forget the opera fight scene?)
I watched Escape from New York for the first time, and I hate to be that guy but Escape from L.A. is way better. The story is cheesy and the special effects are terrible, but at least it isn't boring like N.Y.
Shiraishi Kouji's Occult (https://letterboxd.com/film/occult/). I really love Noroi by the same director, and as such, I've been intending to watch Occult for a while.
And I just want to take the time to mention, now that Disney owns the Predator franchise, we really need a Muppets vs Predator movie.
I watched "The Witch" (2015) a few days ago; wasn't sure what to expect.. I think I though it would be a typical junky horror movie; but omg it was so much more than that. If you're into psychological/supernatural horror I recommend it.
Is there an actual monster/supernatural element or is it one of those horror movies where it turns out to be normal people and everyone is just falling for superstition? There is definitely something going on
I watched The Blob (198:cool: last night! It was clearly a huge inspiration for Stranger Things although non CGI whitch really adds a lot to it; if you enjoy classic 80s over the top horror I recommend it!

The second movie was Days of Heaven (197:cool: which is a drama set in about 1915 midwest of the US. I watched it because my dad said it might be his favourite film. I can totally see why it warrants being a favourite film; its super captivating and has an intense mood and amazing narration. I highly recommend it :omg:
My kid and I just watched The Thing, the one from 1982, because we had watched a review of it on Youtube and wanted to see it. I do love action and horror flicks, but that one was way better than I expected it to be. Tons of gore, of course, but the tension was amazing throughout.
I get the feeling that the ending probably upset some people, but I feel like it couldn't have gone any other way. We both really enjoyed it!
This is one of my favourite movies of all time! I'm assuming your kid is relatively young, but I loved horror movies ever since I was a tot too.
You may also want to watch the prequel from 2011, confusingly also called The Thing, which lead to a lot of people thinking it's a remake. It's not as widely loved, and a lot of people felt spurned that they abandoned practical creature effects for cgi, but I still think it's a great watch.
There's also a video game that serves as an official sequel, but it's pretty much impossible to acquire these days without piracy. And there's a board game too that is a staple at all my family gatherings
I've also seen the original "The Thing from Another World" from 1951. It's harder to recommend unless you're a fan of older movies. I can never convince anyone else to watch it with me, but I like it. There is some subtle humor in there that I really enjoyed.
But if you were avoiding the movie because you heard it was bad, I hope I convinced you to give it a try.You actually did! I didn't even give it a chance because of the bad reviews, and I actually liked the previous Paul Anderson movies. I will give it a watch when I can.
Watched the Super Mario Bros movie! It was super fun. I was excited for this one, as a long term Nintendo fan. And it didn't disappoint
i just saw the barbie movie and it was amazing! i wanted to see oppenheimer as well, but since it's pretty long i'd rather wait for it to be on streaming. i dressed up for it, which i haven't done since probably the last harry potter movie over a decade ago and got some pink caramel popcorn.
i don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but the hype was worth it in my opinion. very funny with some sad and sweet moments, great music too! the set was phenomenal, i loved all the little details in the dreamhouse. i really enjoyed the acting of margot robbie and ryan gosling as well as michael cera who played allen. as a lifelong barbie enjoyer, i loved seeing references to old barbies i either owned or knew about. i even took a couple of my dolls with me!
10/10 :loved:

please watch it if you can handle movies that emotionally obliterate you! :cheesy:
Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) which seems to be a movie about an evil Ozwomp taking over the multiverse. It has the lady from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and a guy who is pretending to be Jackie Chan. The movie itself was a bit exhausting, but lots of fun! Its one of the best sci-fi movies Iv seen made in the last 10 years.
This movie is criminally underrated.
I've decided to close the gap in my classics consumption (well, one of them, I have a lot of gaps there) and finally watched the original Blade Runner (haven't seen the sequel yet either).
Somehow, despite the considerable cult status that movie holds, and knowing the influence it had on the cyberpunk genre as a whole, I remained entirely unaware of the actual plot of it right up until watching.
Turns out, for me it hits precisely where it hurts! Can't say I cried exactly, but I definitely felt emotionally damaged! Cinematically-wise the visuals are understandably very 80s, and also I suspect were pretty novel at the time, seeing how long the camera lingered on each one, but all of that adds a certain charm.
Still, the characters are usually what makes the movie for me, and in a way I'd say that slow pacing leaves us less time to actually know them, imo. That said, what we do get is enough to make me feel for everyone in the plot. Actually, maybe even more so for the hunted than the protagonist. Overall, the feeling is "well it's just bloody unfortunate how that all worked out huh", but like, with more somber regret behind the words, if you get what I mean.
Pris is like my favorite character, I think, so you may guess my feelings on that part. But as far as I understand it, that's how it's supposed to feel.
Kinda makes sense that this is one of the things at the source of the "no happy endings" cyberpunk genre. Although the ending is also appropriately open, which I heard the sequel takes advantage of. Gonna be interesting to see when I get there.
i would really have to disagree? what makes you say that?
I guess I just considered it really interesting and fun and full of action yet I hear nobody talk about it and the few people who have seen it seem kind of meh about it.
I feel like I must have been under a rock or something because I rarely saw people talk about it! (I don't have any social media profiles or anything so maybe that's why I guess) haha :)
thats so funny, you basically dodged the craze :drat:
i was on both twitter and tumblr at that time and it was eeeeverywhere! i still get gif sets of it on my tumblr feed every so often too
Aguirre, Wrath of God,I watched this a long time ago but I should rewatch it again! There's actually a whole thread for Werner Herzog :omg: https://forum.melonland.net/index.php?topic=1014.msg7595#msg7595

I just wanted to add my two cents, I frickin' LOVED EEAAO and I've seen it four times now, but I would not say it was underrated; it saw its fair share of glory, I think it won some awards too didn't it?
Star Trek movie. I'm not much of a TrekkieI remember our local TV station had a day where they played EVERY Star Trek movie back to back; I had never seen Star Trek before that except for the occasional re-run when I was little, so it was my intro to the series ~ the movies are all great fun, even the modern ones and they ad a good place to start!
