☺︎ ∙ Chat & General Interests / Re: Let's talk dream homes« on: March 04, 2023, 02:09:43 pm »Y'all can judge me, 'cause I know people usually want the opposite, but I'd want a studio (on the bigger side) apartment in a big city. I've always been an urban kid and ever since we moved from the city into the suburbs I miss that life terribly. As far as dream-dreams go though, I'd also want it on the top of some high building. And, like, tall windows from floor to ceiling on at least one wall. For the gorgeous city view, of course. Especially at night, when everything is shiny Also maybe high ceilings so that some parts (like the sleeping zone) could be technically two-story, you know how it is. I've always wanted to sleep high up and the summer camp bunk beds were simply not enough to satisfy that need before my adulthood. Also that doubles the space while still being cozy. (Find a person who in every videogame with multiple living spaces allowed chooses the most cramped one. Big living spaces feel cold to me, like, on a vibe level! I dunno why!) And, like, a walkable distance away from a subway station... 3
☺︎ ∙ Chat & General Interests / Re: Whats your life like? (Time Capsule Thread)« on: March 02, 2023, 09:48:11 pm »I still live with my parents, although instead of a stereotypical basement I'm still occupying my room on the second floor. As an introverted geek (I say it affectionately towards myself) I spend most of my days here in front of my computer. I work freelance from home, which gives me this stellar advantage called "completely screw over your sleeping schedule and leave half the work that needs to be done for later only to crunch extremely when deadline approaches". My unmedicated ADHD especially helps with that second part. Why would I work gradually and consistently every day when I could indugle in something that brings me serotonin instead? (don't worry tho, I never let it affect the actual quality of my work).Between working a typing-sort-of-a-job and drawing digitally in my free time I'm severely computer bound, so I'm dragging myself around to listen to music, draw on somethng else (like my walls!) do some amateur crafts (like make handmade patches for my jacket!), etc etc. When I'm out however I spend time with friends ooor go to rock concerts of bands so local that naming them would be basically sharing my location, so whoops. The point is, headbanging and screaming my head off is extremely satisfying and partially keeps me sane. Also if the weather is nice (aka it's summer or late spring/early autumn; I'm a winter hater) I'm not opposed to just walking aimlessly. City center where you could find street musicians in some squares is especially nice. When my family and I travel - those are my favorite parts of any destination. Peoply places! Also hey, future me, if you're ever reading this. Hope you've got this all figured out at some point, 'cause I'm, for one, am terrified. But also agressively and stubbornly optimistic, so you'd better be fine! ![]() 4

✎ ∙ Making Games & Art Discussion / Re: Art and self-promotion in the web revival« on: February 27, 2023, 01:30:34 am »The main reason I suck at marketing is because, despite obviously wanting to make an income as much as the next guy, I honestly can't bring myself to promote my art solely from that standpoint. When promoting, I want to show off the thing I'm proud off and hopefully, hopefully, catch the eye of someone who's interested in what I'm offering. I've been struggling with my webcomic on Tapas, 'cause despite having a forum for promotions, a lot of it is 'sub for sub' and stuff, only hunting for number goals, and I just...can't do that. I don't want people to subscribe to me if they're not gonna read the thing and I don't want them to read the thing out of obligation only either. Hell, I still haven't made an art thread here on the relevant sub-forum, despite, well, being a semi-regular participant at this point, 'cause I want to have base I'm fully proud of first. I want interest, dammit, not a numerical achievement! I think my approach is probably more fitting for the revived web. Show off, be proud, but don't grind, that kind of thing. But it also doesn't bring me much attention, not to even mention any money. People say that for that to happen you need to take to twitter and reddit and all that, and I just suuuuck at those. I mean, I try! But the amount of hustle you need to put in is...not for me. I swear, out of all the cursed social media of today I'll quicker turn for TikTok - at least I like making videos! So far though the most efficient approaches (considering that my stuff is hardly mainstream and doesn't make it to the front page of Webtoons or smth) have been the webcomic webring, the ComicFury forum and the mutual interest gained with authors whose comics I've also genuinely read. I feel like that kinda proves the point the web revival spaces are making (at least at far as niche things go). I also feel like I might be not quite on topic by this point - if so, forgive me, I'm dead tired ![]() 6
☕︎ ∙ Fun & Forum Games / Re: Image search the username above you« on: February 24, 2023, 12:03:16 pm »I dunno how triggering a pic of a gun could be, so have the logo of the company that apparently sells them instead :D ![]() 7
♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: Tabletop roleplaying games (D&D, FATE, OSR, Pathfinder ...)« on: February 22, 2023, 09:53:06 am »I'm a big old newb, never DM'd and only played a couple of one-shots on a Dragon Age TTRPG base EXCEPT for the fact that right now my best friend is running our first ever major long DnD 5e campaign. It's slow since, you know, adults and schedules, but I'd say we're doing good. Naturally, I play a barbarian-based (I mean, she's a barbarian class but not what you'd traditionally call a barbarian backstory-wise) soldier character who's been bravely soaking all the damage in every major fight while rogue and warlock extremely regret that none of us took up any healing or potion-making or ANYTHING to help us not die As much as they appreciate me being the damage magnet in battle, I feel like my character is going to get an intervention soon... Especially after taking a full boss electric attack to the chest, extremely up close, to shield two friendly NPCs the last session... And also someone's gonna throw my dice away for getting the most nat 20 out of the team. Hey, at least I carry! As far as other systems go, I've been drooling all over the Cyberpunk 2020/Red, even kinda thought of trying to run it, but I'm a scaredy cat and it looks complicated Also as mentioned above gathering together (even on Discord) for one campaign is a struggle, I don't think we can pull off two (and playing with unfamiliar people is too much for my anxious butt). But maybe someday!8
✎ ∙ Making Games & Art Discussion / Re: favourite things to draw/model/write/etc?« on: February 18, 2023, 05:18:32 pm »So you know how, like, there's this certain genre of artists (especially in anime fandoms) that draw very feminine men, to the point where an unprepared viewer mistakes them for women? (Said with the outmost recpect for the said artists, of course). Well, I'm the polar opposite of that. Ungirly women from tomboys to butches to general body types considered 'masculine' by the wider media. That's been my jam, like, since ever I started drawing. Back then everyone (including me) just thought that I lack skills to draw 'proper' women. Now I have skills and I still do it on purpose As far as themes go I have two modes - it's either fluffy fluff peace and love on planet Earth, or physical violence, apparently. Both in drawing and in writing - I remember comparing my fanfics throughout years and apparently each piece of my writing contains at least some punching... and more often than not a scene of overcoming pain or exhaustion (or a concussion, or a blood loss, or--) like it's some shonen anime. You know the vibe! (Now, clothes with complicated designs and/or a lot of details and ornaments, however, are my kriptonite. I am in polite awe of any and all of you who do those things well.) 9
☺︎ ∙ Chat & General Interests / Re: Internet Slang of Yesteryear« on: February 17, 2023, 10:15:56 pm »Not exactly slang, but all this talk of text emojis (which, btw, xD still rocks! altho nowadays I find myself more partial to simple :D) reminded me of, uh, I guess the early-early 10s? When every anime space I was at would be using ^^ a lot. Myself included. When I open my DMs from back in the day I get assaulted with ^^. Nya kawaii desu ^^ (My dad tragically has no slang to share. Instead he has stories about playing DOOM at work after hours 'cause no one in the office had a PC at home yet.) 10
⛄︎ ∙ Forum Discussion / Re: BUG WATCH! - If you see a bug report it here!« on: February 17, 2023, 01:41:28 pm »I can't stop laughing 'cause I see Colliewood's post about the marquee glitch. I think "Huh, weird, recent posts page looks fine for me!" I scroll down. And I just watch this thing go past me in slowmo like I'm a cartoon character wordlessly watching something that shouldn't be there boldly going past them ![]() (the blinking text really adds to it, too!) 11
☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: Profile Pictures« on: February 14, 2023, 10:12:11 pm »I usually put my favorite characters on my profile pics and avatars, yeah. The profile pic I use here is perhaps the first exception in a while, in that it's drawn by me and of my own character. But that technically makes her my current favorite character too, so? On brand, I think ![]() 12
⛄︎ ∙ Forum Discussion / Re: BUG WATCH! - If you see a bug report it here!« on: February 14, 2023, 03:43:56 pm »I had this thing jump out at me just now when browsing the forum (the Physical Media thread in particular): Spoiler ![]() [close] Refreshing the page and ctrl+f5 did nothing BUT when I went back to the main forum page it all went back to normal. Haven't been able to replicate it since. I do suspect that was probably some momentarily glitch, maybe even on my side, or maybe I just happened to catch some work in progress happening, but I decided I'd better report it just in case??? ![]() 13
✁ ∙ Web Crafting / Re: Making a gallery« on: February 07, 2023, 06:06:46 pm »I had a very particular view of how I wanted my gallery to look, so eventually after a lot of digging I found a good enough script on stockoverflow and adjusted it a bit for my needs. Here it is as I use it. What it gets me are clickable thumbnails and a full image opening up on click, with a description underneath if I put one there, and that's more or less what I wanted to have. So that's one way to do it, I suppose! Examples of use would go as such and such (since I have two galleries, one for the comic and one for everything else). 14
⛽︎ ∙ Technology & Archiving / Re: Physical Media« on: February 06, 2023, 10:31:37 pm »I'm curious, how do you put films on DVD? Do you use a certain DVD Authoring software? Well, yeah! I've just recently started doing so, so maybe there are better methods out there, but I already had some films downloaded on my PC and then I set out looking for a burning software. Which was an adventure, since for certain reasons I can't buy any, so I was looking for something simple and, as per usual, was getting a bunch of overpriced programs on marketed "top 10 lists", until eventually I came across a simple, free, open-source software called DVD Flick and it was finally simple and efficient enough for me ![]() Just have a bag on you at all times when out, and your camera in said bag. That's what I do. I feel naked without my bag, so I never forget it. Ah, see, that's the problem, my whole friend group is constantly teasing me 'cause I'm almost always without a bag, with all my essential belongings being stuffed in various pockets. I do probably need to go back to wearing bags though. Situations where I was stuck carrying something in my hands were one too many - and it would solve the camera problem ![]() 15
⛺︎ ∙ Cinema / Re: Your favorite anime tropes?« on: February 03, 2023, 10:38:30 am »I know a lot of people are annoyed by this trope by now, but I really really do enjoy the "Character somehow gets up despite being very clearly defeated five times in a row and wins because POWER OF FRIENDSHIP" (or determination, or they made a promise, you know, etc etc) trope. ![]() |
