My main site uses a small amount on the client side where it helps (music player, generating one out of a random list of quotes I have for the entrance page, injecting a back home button on non-home pages with the sidebar so I only have to maintain one sidebar page), but is mostly useable regardless save for one shrine (though I should put a <noscript> tag in a couple places now that I'm looking at it...). On my second site necronomicon though, that one is mainly run off of javascript for it's desktop version (since it's supposed to simulate a desktop screen), so I have a tag on the entrance page to tell the user to enable Javascript if they want to view it.
Overall, I like using JS now that I've worked enough with React to understand it, so I like building with it - but I like to give alternatives or at least something to the user if they don't have it enabled.
I am actually curious about WebDAV, can you tell me more about it? And what advantages does it have over just using the CLI?
WebDAV is a file transfer system for HTTPS, which allows you to upload files to / download files from your Neocities site. Unlike the CLI, you can actually download from it (which I don't typically do but is useful). It makes it easier (at least for me personally) to upload individual files / parts of the site since it'll show you folders, which is really helpful for me personally as someone who has a ton of WIPS. It'll also actually show you how your folders look on the site, which is nice. I use Cyberduck since that's what's recommended by Neocities and it's free, but there are other options.
Will say that using WebDAV for your site requires a supporter account, so if you have a free tier you can't use it (which is one of its only disadvantages, in my opinion). But if you have a supporter account, you just put https://neocities.org/webdav into the server field, and your username and password for those fields, like so (this is cyberduck, but other ones have the same concept).
As long as the audio element isn't hidden and/or looped, I think adding music to your homepage can help set the mood of your site. Neocities doesn't allow audio uploads out of the box, but two things you could do are: 1. use a low quality data URI 2. find audio files from other sites and link them onto your own Note that if you manually edit your site, data URIs can lag your text editor depending on how big they are, which is why I recommend using low quality ones if you have no other choice.
In similar things, I think a music player, like Webamp is a good addition! (For the Webamp link specifically, implementing the things before API and using the <script> tag works best. For audio files, you can use a site like https://catbox.moe/ if you don't want t:ha:can't host it yourself.
I also like having a guestbook link and a spot for other websites I like
Mostly I watch long-form video essays (like Shanspeare, F.D Signifier, etc). These are mostly interesting background noise, though I do like the points they bring up. That or ofherbsandaltars, whom I mainly watch for their stories and because I like their voice and thoughts on things. Every once in a while, I'll watch Plumbella, who's a sims youtuber I mainly watch because she's fun - though I originally got into her for her sims 4 content. I will say Plumbella's the only one I really watch as opposed to just listening for the most part, as the type of videos I watch tend to be more reliant on audio rather than visual content.
Anybody remember this bad boy? Supposedly this was my first console (according to mom) but I coulda sworn that the PS1 was my first. Either way, I remember I would swap between both of 'em. Sorry Playstation, but how are you gonna beat a controller that looks like this?
Omg, I almost completely forgot about this console! I don't remember exactly how much I played it (I was usually outside) but I do remember I owned the dora the explorer game for this, and it was pretty fun at the time. I think my grandma still has it somewhere, though I'm not sure if it would even work now. I also swapped between those, though I'm pretty sure I played slightly more of the PS1 because I really liked playing Spyro lol
coffee - mostly Folgers as that's my "i literally just need caffeine and am about to dump creamer in this anyway" coffee for keeping me able to focus, but on the times I have more free time I've been drinking the trader joes coffee, which is pretty good, honestly. I've also been drinking lots of water, since it's my default drink :3 also (hot) tea is something i've been drinking often because my roommate left her tea collection when she moved out xP so far they've been all pretty good, had some rooibos tea yesterday that I might get more of once I get through the current stuff.
This one was based off of a book I read in middle school (Born to Rock), where the main character's bio dad has the stage name King Maggot. I didn't really like the "king" title (still don't), so I used prince instead, and this username was born! I used to alternate between adding the "s" or not (particularly on sites where princemaggot was taken for whatever reason) but these days I usually put the s.
My other usual one, as linked in my site name - hellspit - was originally my character's username, based off the band angelspit, but then I stole it for my site so I'd have a different name than my usuals <3
hi, i'm syxri (he/it). I found this forum while browsing the yesterweb forum!
I originally started my website (https://hellspit.neocities.org/index2) as a better spot to host my characters, but at this point I mostly just dump whatever I feel like there, including all manner of shrines :3
My main interests include computers (lately I've been browsing goodwill's site for a third laptop lol), web design, the goth subculture, and music !
