♖ ∙ Games Cafe / What would your life look like in the Pokemon universe?
« on: March 08, 2022, 08:49:20 pm »Let's say that Pokemon were real. This could take place in:
Who would you be in that world and what would you do? What would your team of Pokemon be?
In a copy of our world that had Pokemon, I think that I'd still work with computers, and I doubt I'd use my Pokemon for battling very often outside of sparring for fun.
I know I'd have a Munchlax, and probably a Lickitung since he's one of my favorites. I like bulky tankish type monsters, so Venusaur or Bastiodon will be on the roster too. I'd want a Claydol too because they look cool and seem like they'd be friendly. For similar reasons as Claydol, Golbat or Drifblim would be there too.
- An exact copy of our world
- Our world, but with the regions seen in the games as well
- The game's world with or without fan created regions/towns/etc.

« on: February 08, 2022, 05:11:36 pm »Probably programming, and if I had to narrow that down, specifically software architecture/design.
Either that or guitar/bass guitar because I enjoy playing them and it'd be nice to be able to play them well. :omg:k:

« on: February 08, 2022, 04:59:11 pm »in fact, the first program in this language wasn't even written by a human but rather found through a beam search
That sounds very interesting, can you expand on that? I'm reading up on what a beam search is but kinda lost.

« on: February 08, 2022, 04:07:45 pm »Anyone else taken a crack at this album yet? I've been seeing a lot about it on some music boards I'm on. Saw one of my friends streaming it earlier and decided to give it a listen. It's available in full here (a legitimate upload I'm assuming):
I gotta say, I wasn't expecting what I'm hearing. And I probably would've waited to listen if I'd known it was going to be this ... emotional, since I started it right before I had a meeting. :omg:k: Had to mentally readjust myself from the experience before joining the meeting room.

Glad you liked it! Ruby is another good one from that album.
The song I'm listening to this morning needs no introduction:

⛽︎ ∙ Technology & Archiving / Re: Do you remember IRC?
« on: January 31, 2022, 03:45:03 pm »For sure, it's been a minute since I've used it since most of the servers I frequented have moved to Discord, but one is still up and has a bridge between Discord and the IRC server.

He was nuzzling against my hand while I was typing which shifted my attention to him and it hit me. I'm in bed with a friend this morning! Love this little guy.

❤︎ ∙ Greetings and Introductions / Re: Hey everyone
« on: January 27, 2022, 04:12:03 pm »Welcome ^^ I wish I had known more about Club Penguin, loads of people seem to have really intense memories of it but it sorta passed me by :'( I had no idea you could program in it, what did it let you do? Also its always good to have helpful programmers around!
It's still around if you ever get a hankering to check it out! There are still a handful of private servers last I checked, Club Penguin Rewritten being the most active one I think.
Also I probably could've phrased it better, but it wasn't part of the game (and Disney definitely wasn't thrilled with what we were doing :omg:k:smile: - basically what we did was we took the Flash app that made up the game, and used tools to decompile it. From there we worked out how we could write server code to accept connections from the app and talk to it. So like if for example I sent a chat message in the game, it would send a certain message to the server and then expect a certain type of message back from it. Or if it got a message from the server that another player entered the room, it'd put their penguin there.
After eventually working through all the various messages we were able to edit the app's code to point to our server, recompile it, and then voila you had your own instance of Club Penguin running.
"I've been delayed, I've been delayed, I've been delayed, gotta be delayed"Un classique! And thanks!![]()
I loved Club Penguin as a kid too..
Welcome!!
Welcome to the forums, TAS!
It's cool to hear how you found your way here. If you ever do end up setting up your own blog, what do you think you'd blog about? Programming? Interests outside of programming? Or a bit of a mix?
Yeah, it'd probably mostly be about programming, lol. All of the ideas I've had for posts so far have been related to it. :omg:k:
