One of the first mobile games I really loved was Tiny Wings. I now realize it first came out 10 years ago, which is incredible! It's a simple relaxing game where you help a bird whose wings are to small to fly by jumping through valleys.

Before Discord or Slack, there was IRC. It used to be the way to go for group discussions. It's still relatively popular amongst technical users. One of its greatest feature is that it's fully decentralized: anyone can host an IRC network server and have people connect to it.

What's your experience with IRC?

Interesting how this was technically how Twitter was meant to be used, but I never used Twitter like that. I think it's because this can basically act as a billboard on my site, so it's easier for me to conceptualize this as a status updater than Twitter.

It's fascinating to see how ideas evolve. I went to the Internet Archive to check the twitter in the early days and you're right, it looked really similar! It somehow evolved from a place to update status to a full-fledged social network.

question: how would i go about setting up an automatic rss feed? i want to set one up for my oekaki board so it updates every time there's a new post. any help appreciated!

Good idea to have a feed for that! I see two potential ways:

- Using an external service that will periodically (e.g. once per hour, day, etc...) scan the oekaki board and generate a feed
- Supporting it directly within the oekaki board's code.

The first approach is probably the simplest. I found a bunch of services that allow to generate a feed from a page:

However, even though they all have a free tier, it seems like without the paid plan they are all quite limited. Perhaps someone knows of a better one?

The other approach is probably the cleanest, but also the most complex one. I see the board is based on https://github.com/satopian/poti-kaini-EN. Since the code is available in PHP, the idea would be to add a `/feed` route that serves an RSS feed.

I downloaded the game earlier today, and had such a wonderful time playing through each level. I think it landed perfectly with the fact that I needed something relaxing. I enjoyed being able to go slowly, explore, look at the subtleties of each level. My absolute favorite level is level 2. Those simple shapes and lightning with the soundtrack was such a breath of fresh air! What's incredible is that there's something to look at everywhere, and as time passes so does the scene slowly evolves. I'll definitely play again to relax. I somehow feel like it would be incredibly fun to run a parody ads network. The way I'd envision it would be to allow anyone to submit ads for their homepage (not allowed to submit for a commercial product). The ads would use a standard banner format. The person would then need to add the banner's snippet to their homepage to "activate" their submission.

Like that, all participating sites would show ads to other homepages. A little like a webring. I think it could be fun!

I read a fascinating article about the history of feeds. It's called The Rise and Demise of RSS. I highly recommend it.

I just found Liferea, a feed reader that I really enjoy using these days. I've been working recently quite a lot on extending the Atom support of status.cafe. I love the idea of the syndicated web!

I followed-up on your suggestion, DoctorScreech - now there's a little 1px border and it uses wasd by default, which definitely helps with the page scroll. Thanks for suggesting that. Just got up to 22 :omg:k:

I love the quirkiness of the current style, it adds to the atmosphere. There are so many places that look the same on the net, this place really has its own identity. However, being able to override the CSS definitely sounds like it can be useful!
