I'm currently circulating ideas for the next zone or color shrine of my site, and while I have ideas for the general layout I'm kinda stuck on the small configuration things. Essentially, this part of my site will feature one column on the left for most of its content, then a column on the right containing some fancy schmancy gif. I'm getting hung up on what ratio of content to picture might work best, so I made a few mock ups:
Option 1 has the largest overall dimensions, with most of the space devoted to the content. Option 2 has smaller overall dimensions, with a tad more space devoted to the fancy gif. Option 3 has the same overall dimensions as option 2, but has an almost even ratio between content and fancy gif.
If you need a visual on what this site might look color-wise, you can check out my blue zone, but imagine it as a foresty green.
I remember seeing a discussion similar to this on Tumblr, and my conclusion that my companion would be a Swablu, and then maybe an Altaria. I have some in-game attachment as an Altaria was one of my main team members during my first Emerald playthrough. The reason why I didn't pick my Sceptile though is because I'm thinking about what it might be like to care for a Pokemon in real life... Both Swablu and Altaria have very friendly dispositions in the game's Pokedex entries, Swablu even sit on people's heads like a hat!
As an American, I am a heavy advocate for any form of transportation that isn't cars. So much of our space is dedicated to cars, whether it be ever-expanding roads or parking lots, and because of that it makes it very hard (even dangerous) to be without one. I can understand the appeal of cars, as they're kinda like private jets except for the ground, but I feel people commonly use cars for niches that buses and trains could fill in just because having a car is the 'norm'.
There is some obvious environmental benefits of switching cars for public transportation, but some economical benefits are present too. Because so much space is dedicated to cars, not having one often shuts you out from things, but getting a car is expensive too.
Aside from public transportation, the Acrimoto seems super cool! If it hasn't already, I really hope this product gets off the ground and becomes a real thing. My views on it may shift depending on how much it costs... but I feel like this kind of vehicle would be perfect for someone like me. Cars are very powerful, for sure, but I don't need that much utility when the only person I'm gonna be transporting is myself.
I personally don't think my site is that 'funky' or as eye-catching as other sites, but maybe a simpler site could encourage peeps who are daunted by more complex designs?
This isn't a mistake I made (cuz I have Amazing Foresight (that is a joke)), but something I would tell newer webmasters, especially with art-based sites, is to have consistent file naming conventions. This makes it soooo much easier to find things within your own site.
To further explain what I mean by this: I've made it one of my objectives to make sure every file name on my site that usually has a space instead have dashes (so 'one two three. html' becomes 'one-two-three.html'. Really cuts out on second-guessing whether or not a file used spaces, dashes, underscores, or whatever in the file name.
Adding a keyword to a file/folder name helps too. For an example, if I have a bunch of related folders, it might help to add a keyword that unites them all so they get sorted alphabetically together (so instead of having 'blinkies' '88x31' and 'stamps', you'd have 'img-blinkes' 'img-88x31' and 'img-stamps'. If you don't care about alphabetical sorting, adding a keyword to the end of a filename to associate different files works too (like 'artwork.png' and 'artwork-icon.png'
Maybe what I'm saying is just basic webmastery, but I feel that just naming your files willy-nilly is a pitfall some new webmasters could fall into.
Seems like an obvious choice that'd I'd go for 'Summer' by Circadian Clock
As for songs whose vibes remind me of summer time, perhaps 'Tongue Tied' by Grouplove? It's quite an upbeat song that I'd expect to hear in some summer montage during a movie/video
I don't find myself playing these songs on repeat, as in playing the same song constantly, but I do find that I have a selection of songs I tend to go back to and repeat occasionally. Most, if not all of these songs are from the Madoka Magica soundtrack. The top tracks of this selection might be 'Credens Justitiam' and 'Something, everything is wrong'.
There's more than these, of course, but these two tracks are the ones I remember most. I used to have 'Something, everything is wrong' on loop while I was studying...
I'm currently working on an info page for one of my characters, and I was wondering if people like it better when links within an article open in the same tab, or in a new tab
When it comes to informational stuff, I personally like it if links within the text open in a new tab, since often item the link is something that relates to the article I was reading. Having it in a new tab helps me reference things :>
I kinda agree with Ice on the color palette. It isn't as 'out there' as other melon-esque sites, but at the very least the yellow background isn't that pleasing to look at for long periods of time, even if its fully readable...
Also, will talk pages be coming t:ha:are possible on this wiki? If you're not familiar, talk pages are common on most other wikis, and its where contributors can talk about the page's content and how it can be improved. If you want an example, here's a talk page on wikipedia, and here's a talk page on the wiki for Madoka Magica.
Speaking of wiki features: is it also possible to add templates to this wiki? As to what templates are, templates are snippets of code/text that can easily be repeated in articles via a template reference {{like this}}. Templates can also be made to have parameters for more diverse outcomes. The most notable template I can think of is the 'stub' template on wikipedia, which tells you that an article is a stub and needs expansion.
I have a few weird dreams, but I figured I might share this one since it pertains to something some of y'all might be familiar with: Wobbletown! To make the dream I had make sense though, I feel like I should share the first 'part' of this dream I had some other day. Basically:
I wanted to get a Wobble, except Wobbletown was a real place and you had to visit a building to get a Wobble. I go to that place and get whapped in the back of the head with some hard metal object and awaken with a Wobble.
The dream I had this night built off of the last dream:
I return to the Wobble Building, this time with another 'player'. This time I'm not here for a Wobble but to recover my account becuz I lost my password, while the other person is there for a Wobble. While account recovery is a technical thing, the way it was handled in this real life Wobbletown was still done with pen and paper (I remember writing on a small piece of paper something like: username: solarizon / wobble: beans / i'm not here for another wobble, i just need to reset my password). I remember messing up writing my account information numerous times. As for the other player, I woke up too soon to find out if they also got whapped in the back of the head (or if I also got whapped in the back of the head for forgetting my password)
If y'all have any funny dreams you remember, do share ^^
