♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: What are you playing (or have finished)?« on: October 21, 2022, 09:44:32 pm »Pokemon Black on the Nintendo DS! 63
☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: How do GIFS make you feel?« on: October 12, 2022, 08:46:58 pm »
I can agree with this. Sometimes they can be fun, but when overdone they can also get annoying. On a side note, anyone who uses the word "boomer" as an insult has automatically lost my respect. Same with the word "virgin". 64
♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Unusual, weird, and funny glitches!« on: October 12, 2022, 08:41:17 pm »While a good game can be fun just when playing through normally, some of the most fun and interesting experiences I've had in them have been in ways which were not intended- through glitches! Glitches can come in many forms- and often come unexpected. What are some of the most bizarre ones that you have encountered in any video game you've played? 65
⛺︎ ∙ Cinema / Re: Animes I like« on: October 09, 2022, 09:12:10 pm »- Fullmetal Alchemist - Trigun - Rurouni Kenshin - Digimon Tamers - Early seasons One Piece (I guess) I know I'm in a minority here but I admit it's hard for me to find animes I like because many of them, especially the modern big popular ones have a big turn off for me- fanservice (more specifically the sexual kind). It takes away a large chunk of the enjoyment for me and at times makes it genuinely hard to watch. It's one thing when sexuality is actually part of a character in a story but when boobs, butts and crotches are shoved in my face for no reason it makes me want to gag. I think a lot of anime producers are aware that's what many of their viewers pine for, but it makes it hard and unwelcoming for the few people who are disturbed and uncomfortable with that stuff. (and yes, I am aware that sexualization is a big thing in Japanese culture too) That and I also get tired of a lot of the overused tropes, but maybe that's just a thing with popular media in general. 66
⛺︎ ∙ Cinema / Re: Movies you only liked after giving a second chance« on: October 09, 2022, 08:56:46 pm »I remember when Disney's Enchanted came out I thought it was a really dumb idea for a movie, but after watching it recently I actually found it quite entertaining and enjoyable (even in all its cheesy campy glory lol) 67
⛺︎ ∙ Cinema / Re: Popular genres or franchises that went past you/you never came around to« on: October 09, 2022, 08:53:01 pm »I've never played a Pokemon game until Black & White in 2011, maybe because growing up I was afraid if I asked for a game I would get mocked by my brother who thought Pokemon was "the most retarded thing ever" (looking back it probably wouldn't matter because he had no respect for me either way). I was sad I missed out on the earlier gens but at least I got to go back and play them later (and was able to still get legitimate copies of almost all the main games that I've missed). I've also never played World of Warcraft all the way until 2017 when a friend got me into it. Man I felt late to the party there. 68
⛺︎ ∙ Cinema / Re: Why do you watch YouTube?« on: October 09, 2022, 08:43:33 pm »Tutorials, informative/educational videos, lots of videogame-related stuff (mainly like unused/beta content and glitches), and occasionally stupid shit for mindless entertainment like YTPs. ![]() 69
☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: Do you "go online" any more?« on: October 09, 2022, 08:27:36 pm »Just me and my thoughts The problem with spending time with your own thoughts is that for some people, especially those with OCD, it can quickly become overwhelming and even toxic because without any kind of distraction or something to draw our attention away, thoughts will start spiraling out of control to obsessive worrying and other bad thoughts repeating themselves over and over. I usually try to suffice this by playing video games or doing other hobbies. At the same time though, I also have bad ADD and looking for constant distractions probably feeds into that so it makes it harder for me to keep focus on things that I need to. It's like a double-edged sword I guess. On another note I personally prefer setting time aside to go online on my computer. If I'm on it throughout the day on a mobile device it just feels like a time-waster and imo, kinda boring. I still browse on my phone from time to time especially if I'm waiting and can't do much else, but there's just something that feels a lot nicer with dedicating most of my web-surfing time to when I get on my PC. Maybe it's just what I'm used to, idk. 70
☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: how the Web should look like in my opinion« on: September 30, 2022, 11:58:08 pm »It's actually quite refreshing to find someone else on here who dislikes porn and memes/trends (There have been few memes I've actually enjoyed before. but regardless they get old EXTREMELY fast when people are beating them to the ground constantly). I think we can get along! Putting that aside though I think we all have our ideal versions of what the internet should be like; but of course, since it's made up of so many different kinds of people it's probably best to stick with what we enjoy and let be otherwise, asides from doing what we can to deal with the people/practices that are actually harmful (but even then there is only so much we can do). In fact I think much of what makes communities so toxic is people trying to enforce their own ideals onto others, which just doesn't work. I also completely agree about underage kids, I see a lot of people argue against it, but let's not forget the fact that the web is seriously dangerous for them as it's full of sexual predators, cyberbullies, scammers, and whatever else have you. Honestly shouldn't that be mere common sense by now? Not to mention if you try to make the web child-friendly not only does it not work, but it just causes trouble for the rest of the userbase (see what YouTube is trying to do for instance). It becomes very restricting and takes away a lot of the creative freedom, thus taking away a lot of the fun. 71
☺︎ ∙ Chat & General Interests / Re: What is something about your childhood that you DON'T miss?« on: August 12, 2022, 07:42:31 pm »mean kids ( one threw a lewgie at me Gross. At least it wasn't a sharp rock though like one kid threw at me in the third grade. I still have the scar on my forehead. 72
☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: I miss the old internet-but I never experienced it.« on: July 01, 2022, 11:08:52 pm »I completely understand this feeling. YouTube comments typically get me bummed out, especially on more controversial videos. Even if it's not someone being blatantly malicious, it's often just someone writing on a template like "Can we just stop and appreciate how [blank]". They mean well, but it gets so dry after a while... I've started limiting how much I read the comment section, and if I leave a comment, I try to only reply to the video's creator in a vacuum. Oh man I can't stand comment memes/templates. It just makes it feel like I'm reading some kind of AI-generated algorithm rather than the words of actual people. 73
☺︎ ∙ Chat & General Interests / Re: What is your favourite piece of lost media/One you want found the most?« on: July 01, 2022, 08:50:02 pm »I would love to hear the entirety of the beta Temple theme from Super Smash Bros. Melee. It sounds to beautiful and mysterious. 74
☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: I miss the old internet-but I never experienced it.« on: July 01, 2022, 08:34:26 pm »I feel something similar, since those days were so shitty back then in my personal life and by the time my situation got so much better and I was mature enough to understand and enjoy the world around me, much of the experience I wanted to have were gone and I feel I missed out on them, like they were taken away from me. I also have a lot of spite and bitterness towards my age since I grew up in an environment where it was constantly shoved in my face how young I was and that I couldn't be "one of the adults" (hopefully that's not your case though). Even now when I think about it all the pain cuts like a knife. Flame wars were everywhere and the common refrain was that if you couldn't handle the insults you should get off the internet, as if that was the desired normal of online life. Obviously that's a crappy way to be, but it was common. The elitism was palpable. Honestly I don't think the bit with flame wars has changed, they're as everywhere as ever these days! I also agree that what you said it's a crappy way to be, however I would argue that I think sometimes it is the healthier option just to "get off the internet" then to waste your time arguing with random ignorant strangers online. Maybe it's just me being pessimistic but I feel many people are losing their grip on the reality that some people are just crappy and don't change, which just leads to more pointless drama. 75
♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: What are you playing (or have finished)?« on: July 01, 2022, 07:58:09 pm »I recently finished Majora's Mask (emulated N64 version), and I really loved it! I remember hating N64 graphics as a kid and thinking "who would think this actually looks good or immersive:dunno:" but I've grown to love the low-poly style these days I don't know if it's just because it was the norm when I was young but I never minded low-poly graphics for some reason. I also don't know if it's nostalgia or some shit but nowadays I find some sort of charm in it that I don't see in newer games, especially when it's stylized like Crash, Spyro, or FFVII. |
