Iv been meaning to get around to those, they've been missing since the forum was first made! I created some new ones

i just noticed this this morning when i logged onto the forum - it looks like the navbar for the cinniland theme is now glitched and none of the links can actually be clicked on.
Thank you for this report! I must have made an error somewhere when I was adding some polish to it! It should be fixed now :4u:

Right now if I want to change my Ultimate Profile™ it wipes everything I put in there before, and I would have to copy/paste the previous contents before changing anything! Is this intended?
Oooph, this is the worst kind of bug   I hate when peoples text gets wiped - Iv disabled the fancy editor on profiles for now while I figure this out!

Also I'm looking into the comment layout issues on profiles - the profile mod is realllyy old, so expect it to be a while before all its issues are ironed out!

I assume you know the backstory behind the Tommy album that this song is from? Its also a very weird movie, I'm not sure if I recommend it, but maybe you'd enjoy it.

Ignoring the movie though.. and just going off the songs in the album.. the theory kinda still works, in fact it kinda gets deeper.. maybe your onto something! If nothing else its a fun way to recontextualise it

♖ ∙ Games Cafe / What is the best version of Myst to play?
« on: February 13, 2023, 01:05:57 am »
Believe it or not Iv never played Myst :omg: - its always been a bit intimidating to approach - its a large mysterious game, with a design thats sometimes claustrophobic and kinda depends on you getting immersed in the world and story to be entertaining.

Anyway I saw this comparison video recently and it got me wondering! Whats the best way to play myst? The classic 90s look? The totaly modern look, or one of the middle grounds from the 2000s?? What would you pick to play and what would you recommend to someone interested in playing?

I'm not sure if this is just me being technologically incompetent, but I've noticed that when I put in a YouTube link and look at the post's preview, it just displays a blank rectangle
This should now be fixed! :ha:

Nothing is impossible when it comes to computers - the question is how much time will it take

I have to be candid though; to make this as a single page would be a challenging job for me (with quite a lot of knowhow) and I have no idea how Id approach it. I'd probably try to make each character box a large div that could be resized and cropped using overflow: hidden - then use some mix of flex and Javascript to animate it and switch between them.

HOWEVER, based on the fact that your asking, and looking at where your site is right now; I don't think you should take that path! You could fake this and get 90% of the way there if you split it into 2 separate pages.

Page 1: Based on your drawing is a set of profile pictures of the characters and each one is a link to page 2.
Page 2: is your second drawing - the big box is an iframe and the character buttons down the side are links like the ones on Page 1.

Depending on what character you click, it can load that characters bio into the iframe (you can do that easily using my frame script!)

The only tricky bit then is switching the profile pictures on the right of page 2 so they don't show the character your viewing.. that might need some custom JavaScript. However even if it needs custom script it would be MUCH more beginner friendly than trying to do it all as one page and a good was to learn!

I think if you just did a little looping script that hides the one you click and shows all the others - that would be super simple - but worry about that when you get there

If you do it this way; Your first step is try make the 2 pages - get the iframe and bio pages working - get links between them working - then you can come back here if you need help with that final script.

Check your browsers JavaScript Console! You've got an error message!

It seems like you've got a missing or wrong character somewhere (possibly before your mp3 url) but I cant spot it immediately, so try and backtrack your steps - undo your changes to this bit of code until you find out whats wrong!

Did you put a ] in the wrong place? Should that }], thats after your mp3 url be before the url? - Check the code your copying from! :eyes:

Getting a gameboy camera is easy - getting the pictures off the camera is really hard! I spent way too much on new old stock gameboy camera to DOS serial cables back in 2017, but they were all dead on arrival!
Maybe there is a better way to do it now, I gotta look into it too :ozwomp:

I'm really interested to know if you're still with ProtonVPN
I stayed with it for a year, but I left it when my renewal came up - there were no big issues, it was kinda expensive if I recall.. but I found the client on mac didn't really work that well, and it had a lot of disconnection issues. These days I use IVPN - its about the same price and it seems to work much better for me
Proton is totally fine though and if it does what you want it to then theres nothing wrong with using it :4u:

I might make a similar thread!
Hope you do! Id love to seee more of what other people use!

A fun one I recommend looking into (If you have an NVIDIA GPU) is their 3d point cloud rendering software! It lets you take a sequence of random overlapping images of an object and will create a 3D scene from the images - its shockingly affective and shockingly fast - On my mid-range 3060 GPU it renders in about 40 seconds. Apparently just 2 years that same process would take over an hour for any computer - its been advancing leaps and bounds! :ozwomp:

In the next few years it will be very possible to just take a few pictures of an object and drop it right into a game engine - we will be able to make entire 3D games set in our houses in an afternoon! (if a person wanted to do such a thing...)

I made a thread about here here: https://forum.melonland.net/index.php?topic=646.0

You might already know it - but 2-Minute Papers is a great youtube channel that summarises the latest academic papers (mostly related to graphics and processing) in a very quick casual style - https://www.youtube.com/@TwoMinutePapers
