I've been poking around again and found something I thought was pretty neat.

This is a great find! Im actually planning a webring dedicated to sites that use classic frameset for their layout and have been thinking of what ring code to use. I had a snoop around the source of version 3.4; while I don't know Perl I could get a general idea of how it works and it seems really comprehensive.

Im not sure if I'll be able to get this working with my server setup (particularly I imagine I'd have to convert it to HTTPS and proxy it through nginx) but if its not too much hassle I'll give it a shot!

By the way, I hope it's fine to ask here, but how does one save their changes on the Look and Layout section? I'd love to set up a time format and a font/colour/size, but I think I'm missing something because they revert back to the default and I'm not seeing any saving buttons. :drat:

You click the "Modify Profile" button at the top of the page- and dont worry, thats not your fault for finding confusing, its a bug (it should be at the bottom) - Iv been meaning to fix it for a while!! :ohdear:

I think my main favourite artist is S3RL
I was very into S3RL at one point in my life - your mention of them was actually why I asked  Im not really sure there is anything like S3RL, but you might like LFZ?

As far as I know by the way, Ecosia plants extremely cheap trees in a monoculture, which actually destroys nature more than not. Plus, it's not open source, so you have no way of knowing for sure what they do to your data. No corporation does charity.

Maybe! Its hard to tell; I did see a short clip of the founder in this documentary and he seemed like a cool guy and very genuine - I imagine they are not perfect regardless but I hope they are not as bad as you say because its nice to think theres some people out there doing good!

It feels silly to get so nostalgic over ads, but old commercials are the best.

There's nothing silly about it at all! Like it or not we live in a consumer society; the products we interact with and the story of where they came from is like our own personal story too. Old ads are just as important as family albums in my opinion

Speaking of which I forced my family to watch like 2 hours of compilation ads one Christmas, they got really into it; we started a game where we had to draw our own ads and vote on the best.

Its really interesting if you start looking at ads from the 50s - 60s - 70s - 80s - they change every decade - they get louder and more annoying as they go.. the ones from the 60s you can watch for ages, but by the 80s they are actually really exhausting to watch.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! :4u:

Iv seen your site on neocities a few times and for some reason I always read it as "Corrupted Unicode", but Unicorn is good too!

"Cool poses - A tinge of endearment - They often say my art style is "cute" but ngl I kinda hate that" I don't think cutes a bad thing - a lot of people don't have great vocabulary when talking about art, so cute usually means well - but we all wanna be seen a little more clearly than that right?

The Blues Brothers is one of the best movies! and Gigi D'Agostino is a legend - what your favourite hardcore/rave song? :ozwomp:

« on: January 22, 2023, 02:58:31 am »
I tried using Last.Fm really seriously about a year ago - but I found it extremely stressful knowing anyone could just see what I was listening too! Like.. sometimes I wanna share my great taste is music.. but sometimes I wanna listen to The Princess and the Frog soundtrack on a loop for 3 days.. I don't want people knowing what Im doing without a filter

I suppose its kinda cool knowing what you listen too across multiple sites/platforms.. but I like.. already know what I listen too? In short, I found it stressful and couldn't really see much point to it.. but I'm curious to know what you lot get out of it?

Its a bit funny; people get so upset about not wanting to share ther data, but then they share all their music listening data randomly with last.fm :omg:k:

I was gonna answer clementines but someone beat me too it! They remind me of the song - Oh my darling, oh my darling!

Piano - if you whip out a piano at a party you're Mozart, if you whip out a guitar you're.. that dude with the guitar at parties :drat:

EDIT I forgot to do question! :innocent:

Umm ummm - Ball point pens or fountain pens?

Good news! The new and improved version of Ozwomp Is Online is now.. err.. online :ozwomp: :ozwomp:

This is a multiplayer world you can explore with your friends - it still has a lot of flaws and needs a lot of work, but its a real bump up from the past draft versions; I hope you enjoy it

The only complaint I have is that for some reason file transfer speeds are extremely slow.

Ooph, Neocities and speed don't mix - when I was uploading MoMG (which is 5GB of tiny images) - it took 15 mins to upload to my VPS, aparently like 48 hours via WebDav and about 3-5 hours using the CLI; but I had to write a special script that made the CLI upload each image one at a time because the bulk upload command could not handle 100k images... I guess that story is not very helpful for anyone, but it does highlight speed issues on NC :ohdear:

I agree though the benefit to WebDAV is that you can use a nice UI like CyberDuck or Transmit - and some editors will track your local file changes and publish them via WebDAV.

One of the interesting things about Neocities is that they own their own IP addresses (and possibly hardware?) - as far as I know Neocities is mostly totally independent - so for example if Neocities received a copyright takedown related to your site, they will just ignore it, whereas most other hosts will delete your site because they are worried about getting kicked off the infrastructure which they don't own.

From what Iv seen Kyle (The NC founder) is kinda a nut for networking technologies, so I really trust him to keep my sites online, even if the interface to manage them sucks

Im basing most of that off this interview: https://www.softwaresessions.com/episodes/bringing-geocities-back-with-kyle-drake/ - its been a while since I heard it though so I might have a few points wrong!

Thinking about some upcoming forum changes! People seem to have a hard time figuring out the diffrences between Life on the Web, Chat & Forum Games & General Interests

Im thinking of making these changes:
  • Rename Chat & Forum Games to Fun & Forum Games - making it just for fun topics
  • Rename Life on the Web to Life on Earth - making it all general social discussion
  • Removing General Interests and adding Technology as an interest
  • Adding a Game Development Board to the Workshop
  • Removing the Asset Sharing board and merging its topics elsewhere

Lermmy know any opinions! :ozwomp:
