It worked the first time I went there, but after the movie ended the whole site totally broke :ohdear: - The schedule is a black page for me too, but the stream is working at the moment (its playing some sort of french movie!)

EDIT: The film is Alphaville (1965), its really good!

Iv been thinking of starting a small podcast! Mainly focusing on website making, web revival culture, web art, web games, news in the web revival etc

People keep telling me I speak well, and I certainly have a lot to say; but I also admit I'm not much of a vocaliser, so I think that would be a bit of challenge - but it might be a fun ocasional thing to do

Have you ever made a podcast? (If so any advice?) Have you ever considered making on? Would you like to be interviewed on one about your site? What you like to hear about in a podcast within this community?

 :omg: :ha:  :ziped:

✑ ∙ Writers Corner / Re: How do you write longer replies?
« on: January 10, 2023, 07:58:26 pm »
If you have dyslexia or dyspraxia (I have both :grin:smile: or other similar learning difficulties - then I'd say this is actually quite normal. Im the sorta person who will spend 5 minutes on every text message and then the person Im talking to will reply in 30 seconds :omg:k:

Some people write very quickly and coherently, others do not! I need to revise and review my messages quite a few times before they make sense, and just turning thoughts into words takes a lot of extra effort. That said it has gotten better with practice as Iv gotten older, but its been a slow process :ohdear:

Regardless though, these are a few tips I use that could help:
  • Something you can try is using a text-speech program to read your first draft back to you; I find that really helps me to know if my writing makes sense or not.
  • On the flip side, a dictation app can be really helpful - you can speak your first draft, and then edit it as text.
  • Avoid distractions like music when your writing, that just makes everything harder. (says while listening to the Inception soundtrack)
  • Don't worry about making you text good on the first draft, write as fast as you can and then go back and make lots of edits and smaller rewrites

« on: January 10, 2023, 12:10:09 pm »
I youthed recently! I played Fortnight and almost won a match (it came down to a close combat shoot off between me and one other player)! Then I figured I would never top that and uninstalled it

I really enjoy Sea of Thieves, Iv been trying to play it for like 4 years.. but no one will ever play it with me - its the sorta game thats nice to play with a friend, where you can chat and catch up as you sail your ships and do whatever else people do in this game (I just sail ships) :ha:

Iv been meaning to play some older battle games like Unreal Tournament and that Star Trek one, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

When I first made my homepage it was very much a secret space where I could mess around; but over the years more and more people in my everyday life learned about it; these days EVERYONE knows about my sites, from my family to my barber; but that doesn't bother me. My sites have become part of who I am, so Im happy for people to see them; I actually feel like someone hasn't really met me if they haven't met my site

How do you feel about sharing your online personas with people in your everyday life? I know for many of you it might not be a choice, and for others you'll just prefer to keep a separation - but I'm curious to hear what people think - particularly in the old web community where we often reject the professionalisation of online personas - yet still have to be professional in life.

i hacked toontown. when i got caught i swore to my mom i didn't and she had to call support to get me WRONGFULLY unbanned! and then i got re-banned years later when i told another player what i did :drat:

Ooph, this reminds me of playing Puzzel Pirates - there was another kid pestering me to "lend" them my ship and my clothes (I had fancy clothes).. I decided I would be a supreme troll and open a trade and pretend I was gonna give them stuff, but then cancel.. but I clicked the wrong button and gave them all my stuff :drat:

Hollywood Graveyard Tours is great - a guy walks around graveyards and points out the famous people; its sort of like a whirlwind tour of 20th century entertainment history, Iv learned about a lot of voice actors and early pioneers that Id otherwise never have thought about :dl: - Plus theres a memento mori quality and something relaxing about it

⛺︎ ∙ Cinema / Re: Retro TV cultural/travel documentary series
« on: January 09, 2023, 07:45:37 pm »
I cant believe I missed this topic, I LOVE old travel documentaries! (Those both have unfortunate thumbnails, but they seem great when you start them, Im watching now!)

My favourite one of all time is Around the World in 80 Days with Michael Palin (you can watch here) I used to binge watch this on a loop when I was little, he trys to reenact the book for real, only using transport loosely available in the 19th century - Michael Palin is one of the few stars Id love to meet :ozwomp:

I'd also add that a lot of internet culture from the late 90s onwards was centred around online games, same as it is today - a lot of people would have spent their time in game servers and communities related to those games - when games get too old and people stop playing, the severs close and the community tends to drift apart. Its much harder to maintain a gaming server than a website!

For us diehards, if we loose our home online then we will just go and find a new one - but I think for many people in the 90s and 00s, when they lost their homes online, they just stopped going online to socialise.

That said a few older online spaces like SecondLife, Habbo and RuneScape still have a large chuck of their original communities intact - I had a professor in college who had been on SecondLife since it first opened :ozwomp:

Just a small request, but I think that stickied threads should be bold!
It will make it easier to differentiate them from the normal threads.

This is a great idea! I tried bold but it was a bit intense so I made them a lighter yellow - hopefully that helps
