Don't worry this happens to everyone (and I think meds is a VERY extreme suggestion to start with /home/ ); it sounds like you could be experiencing "Hedonic Adaptation" which is a fancy way of saying, you get bored of things that you do too often - you think a game should be fun because it was fun in the past, but its not because you've become bored of it right now.

I learned about that from this dramatic video ^^ (I don't follow the channel anymore and cant speak for what it says.. but the video is cool!)

The remedy is simple! Do something unexpected - Do things you've never done before; invite some friends to go somewhere new, or do a walk/hike you've never done before; try a hobby that involves very different skills and mental tasks than what you normally do - get out of your comfort zone! The trick is, you need to do things that actually feel meaningful, that add some real sense of depth and scale to life, what that is will be different for everyone, sometimes just walking in the woods can do it!

So yes, taking a break is exactly right, but it needs to be an active break - you dont need relaxation, you need fun :ozwomp: - then after a while the joy should start coming back to things you used to like again ^^ :4u:

Hi Wings, welcome to to the forum! :4u:

There really is nothing better than a cozy fire and a bad horror movie! Im sorry to hear about your health issues, that sounds rough

If you ever make it to Kyoto, they have a really amazing manga museum that has a whole library of vintage comics you can read from the early 20th century onward; they had an exhibition of works by 80s/90s artist when I was there (sadly I don't remember the name); its totally worth a visit - they even have plaster casts of famous artists hands showing how they hold their pen/brush - I found those very interesting to study!

Thank you! I try to do what I love doing; often that makes life much harder than it otherwise could be, but I hope when I leave this world it wont be with regrets

As someone who writes these regularly, honestly I'd write it somewhat like this:

This is more or less the same for me - I used to always pay special attention to make sure their prefix was correct (Prof, Dr, Mr, Ms, Mrs etc) and then Id use their last name (Dear Dr Balloon etc) - usually you can get this info by checking how they have signed off past formal emails or on their staff listing online. Its a little awkward because we are not used to being formal like this in daily life, but I always felt it was better to over formalise rather than under formalise.

After all that they will reply with something like "Ok, sure" - but thats the power balance of student-teacher

Ooph, I got the Life is Strange Remastered bundle last April when I had covid; and went into it knowing absolutely NOTHING about the game, Id heard the name before so figured it was worth a go! On a personal level, 2021 was a very bad year, and 2022 had not started off well, most people around here were still in covid isolation, me included - All that is setup to say I was not emotionally prepared to handle this game and it hit me very hard

I picked saving Chloe at the end - my thought process was along the lines of "No no I cant loose someone again we are not doing this" - but I regretted that choice almost instantly.. what right did I have to choose to let everyone die.. did this not invalidate everything Id done before then!

I saved the girl from the rooftop, and I knew how much her family loved her - and now I was sentencing her to death again; because I couldn't let go of a friend I had already lost years ago? Somehow that last choice was like clinging to the past, it was choosing stasis and comfort instead of facing reality and letting myself and the world move on.

Finally what happens after this; do Max and Chloe stay friends? I cant imagine they could or should.. its just too much pressure.

In the end time catches up with everything no matter what you pick, no one lives forever - but that doesn't make the time any less valuable - I chose to hold onto time with someone from my past, instead of letting time offer me something new - I don't think it was a good ending for anyone :ohdear:

What a head wrecker! But I enjoyed it thoroughly and It'll stay with me for many years! - I loved the way you could see how common other peoples choices were!

New Moderator

Hi all, I have appointed MamboGator as a moderator to help with the forum, particularly the American timezone because Im asleep for most of that!

He will be able to keep an eye out for trolls or spammers and remove their posts! Im sure you're all familiar Mambo, he's been on the forum for many months, has made lots of great topics, and generally knows the mood of the forum well, so I hope you'll trust him to help you out if you have any troubles!

Nows a good time to remind people about the "How to report an issue to a moderator" topic - the forum has been a little more busy lately, so I hope you'll all do your bit to welcome new people, keep the vibe nice and report any issues if necessary!

So wait, if I set my settings in the Look and Layouts section, will that reflect on older posts, or only newer ones?

It will change every post you have ever made ^^ (it does not actually CHANGE the posts it just adds a style when they load, so don't worry about picking silly fonts, it wont mess anything up permanently)

Also do you really need commas?

Firstly I wanna say, please don't use uncannyvally as a how-to-do-this study, its a great looking site, but their code is a disaster! :omg:k: (Their structure is ok-ish, its just very messy, they use WAY too many unnecessary positioning commands and hosting images on discord is not ok!!) :TnT:

Ok so, I interned for a while at a London web advertising agency around 2009, it was still the era when they made sites in this style professionally. The way they did it back then was to design the entire site using Adobe Illustrator, then they would slice it up into fixed standard segments, and export things like buttons as separate images. (Most good graphics editors will have this slice functionality)

The background images would be reassembled around a div (which is a predefined size and was cut out from the original illustrator design) and content would be loaded into the div using php from a database - on neocities we don't use php, so most sites use iFrames to get the same effect.

After that buttons can be positioned on top of the background images using a few simple CSS absolute placements - and because the background was sliced up in known sizes and locked into a div of a fixed size, it should all just snap together!

Something like:
Code
outer div - 1000px wide
 header background (1000px wide)
side background (200px wide) - centre iframe/content div (600px wide) - side background (200px wide)
 footer background (1000px wide)
code for buttons (positioned where you like using position absolute)

It can get much more complex depending on how complex your design is and how many windows you want.

As for cinni's site, she uses a much simpler system; she has one background image and then iframes and buttons are positioned on top of it. This design is great for pixel art because the background image can be low-res and resized while still looking good, but its not really usable for a high-res background because it would be super slow to load in a huge background image!

Ooph I hope that was clear and I actually answered your question :ha: - there are a few ways you can make it work, and some will be better or worse depending on what your trying to accomplish! Also I know my knowledge of this kinda site creation is over 10 years old, so maybe there are newer options, but this is the best way I can think to do it! :pc:

☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: Which search engines do you use?
« on: January 07, 2023, 10:15:10 pm »
DuckDuckGo is my main search and covers 95% of things :ozwomp:

Google is a good backup, particularly if its a very specific thing Im looking for - also Googles reverse image search is great, and Google Scholar is really handy for academic documents.

I actually don't use any directory sites.. I find large lists of links quite overwhelming and Iv never found one that felt fun to use :drat:

I tried Ecosia (apparently they plant trees with search ad revenue) for a while, but its just Bing as far as I know, and I also tried Kagi which is a paid search engine; I actually really liked its design and results, but its too expensive and I reaaallllyyy don't trust its developer :ohdear:

Id also add that when you're buying art, your not just paying for the time that went into the physical artwork. The value also includes all of the time and skill and emotional development that has gone into the artists whole career up to that point. You are buying into the story of that artist and the history of the era that artwork is created in!

As mambo says, its upto the artist and the buyer to say what the value of that story is, but its always more than the physical work. Plenty of artists over value their story and plenty undervalue their story too. Often that value is more about perceived self worth than actual money, so you'll find artists who have rooms full of unsold work because the world does not perceive them the same way they perceive themselves.

I guess I'd argue that all art is just stories, and all economics are stories too - its all just things we make up because we feel like it for a while  That doesn't detract from it though! :defrag:

Hi Plasmon, welcome to the forum :4u:

You've arrived on new font day, so please excuse the fact that fonts keep changing :ziped:

I think about this scene way more than anyone should  - Id love to know more about synthesisers, the mini moog always seems like such a fun object!
