Apologies its a bit overwhelming at first, I do worry about that ; but its actually quite relaxed here once you get over the initial content wave! You don't need to look at everything, just the things that interest you! (I think your itch link is borked, you just need to enter your username!)

Being in a new city or town on your own can be really tough! I was in New York for almost a year and the only way I really made friends was through work and my flatmates - but it can totally happen in other ways too.
I always liked the idea that you can just go out and meet your new best friend sitting in the park, like in a movie - but it hasn't happened yet That said, having tried quite a few times over the years and having traveled a lot to new cities, I do have some advice!
First off, it really depends on your personality - are you friendly and confident around new people? If you're out there and you want to talk to someone, chances are you're gonna have to initiate the conversation - most people will be a bit reserved at first, but if you're polite they should warm up quickly - also talking to two people who are together can be a good idea, people are more open and secure when they are with their friends (although they might also have less time for you).
The best places to meet people are places that naturally break down social barriers - youth hostels are great if you're traveling because everyone there is a traveler too. In your local area, places like art galleries and museums can be good because its easy to strike up a conversation about something on display. Iv also had a lot of interesting conversations on trains.. particularly when the train is delayed!
Cafes and bars are great too - but it depends what the cafe/bar is like, sitting at the counter is always a great place to find a conversation. If you're on a phone/tablet/laptop or have headphones on, people will assume you're busy and wont talk to you at all. However if you are drawing/painting on paper, or taking photographs with an interesting camera, people love that - almost every time I go out drawing in public, someone will come up and have a look! (sometimes they will be flirting, be aware of that )
After all that, the best way to meet people is at events, work/school, meetups or clubs, but thats not really your question! - Many cafes these days have public board game nights.
Finally, if you're just in a cafe and you wanna enjoy the space and not worry about the social side too much - writing or web design on a small laptop is the classic cafe people watching pass time. Some of the best pages on my site have been made in cafes (a lot of this forum theme was made in an airport) - often the focus of having a public-private space can be really creatively helpful - take notes of the things you see, and draw sketches - you never know when that might be useful for a future project and someone might find it interesting!
I think today was a new record Were you watching the "Guest/Bot" count earlier, there were 500 bots hitting the forum! Im actually gonna take some time over the next few days to add some new features, fix a few bugs and do some backups - now is a good time to send in any bug reports and requests!
Thanks to everyone who visited the forum today, we will bring forums back to life!
Oh god!! You mean we are gonna have spent our youths explaining computers to our parents and now we are gonna have to spend our old age explaining them to our kids This is actually a serious issue!
Maybe not all but archine.org says "ReoCities, is also mirroring a substantial portion of GeoCities and exchanged URL lists with the Internet Archive during the final round of archiving" - which sounds like they have most of them - although I think they've filtered out blank sites.
Are there any songs that you used to dislike but you've grown to love?
There are LOTS that I used to love but grew to dislike, but this thread is about the few that have gone the other way!
I remember when I was little there was a really annoying TV ad that had this song on it, I hated that ad! And I did not care for this song very much for many years - but a few weeks ago I heard it on the radio and though it was kinda nice - I came back to it again recently and I just loved it - its funny how things change I can be quite slow
Which reminds me, that's another use I've found for AI. The way it exaggerates the most notable features of something when it tries to replicate it. Like, if you see an AI generated image of an actor, it'll exaggerate the shape of their nose or their eyes or whatever else is most distinguishing about their appearance. I find that really useful when making my own portraits or whatever. I'll actually copy the AI as a sort of tutor telling me "this is how you make that weird generic blob person look more like Adrian Brody" or something.
It's similar to how I used to want to be a voice actor, so I do a lot of voices. But there are some voices I was never able to mimic, like Christopher Walken or Morgan Freeman, until I heard another impersonator do their impression of them, because they exaggerated what makes their voices distinct, and then I was able to replicate it myself.
These are both really cool examples! I don't have anything smart to say, but its a great way to enhance your work, and I like the idea that the AI is also like a friend or a helper to you rather than the primary source of your work - thats a really healthy technological balance.
I suppose AI can be kind of like a game, you can play at being an artist - if play is the end of the story (which is is for many people) thats not very interesting, but if you can use that play to grow your own abilities and ideas, then thats exactly what play is best at! -
As for the issue of stolen art - I agree thats not good - if your a company you should hire artists to create art specifically to teach the AI - and if your an open source project you should ask for art to be donated. There is also so much art thats out of copyright, its really not acceptable to steal work from living artists.
Comparing using select prompts to, I don't know, 20+ years of a human brain studying different artists and then coming out with your own unique take that no one else will ever be quite able to replicate because humans will always have their own flair. There is nothing to compare there.
Would you not say thats the same as using a digital drawing tablet? You can study traditional painting for years and develop a personal technique with your own brushes and even mix your own unique paint. However when you use a digital drawing tool you are getting perfect brush strokes created by pre-made brushes using simulated paint. I don't think anyone here would argue that digital painting is not a valid form of art through; its not the same, but they are both valid and allow you to focus on different things with different results.
As just a little funny aside, to anyone who thinks AI can't be artists, just look at their inability to render hands! All fledgling artists struggle with hands.
Ugh, I rember once in art class the teacher asked us to draw our hand - everyone started tracing their hand flat on the table like you do when your five; but I started drawing mine in a complex 3D pose thinking I was Leonardo Davnici... that was the day I knew I was doomed to be an artist
Just a moderation note; would you mind paraphrasing quotes like this instead of screenshoting ^^ Partly because if your screenshots go down it'll break your posts meaning (and the meaning of anyone referencing you) - but also because its not really in the spirit of the forum to block quote; your post should be about what you wanna say, not what someone else says!
And unfortunately I've got no idea what may have happened with my old sites. I was very very young when I made them so beyond having a bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh screencaps and Internet Bumper Stickers on one of them I can't tell you much lol. That's about all I remember.
If it was on Geocities and you can remember what its was called/looked like/where it was on the site - theres a good chance you might be able to find it again, all Goecities sites are browsable here - https://geocities.restorativland.org
People ask me about this all the time when I tell them Im a digital artist - AI is a LONG way from making functional websites or games, but it is going to have a big impact on many other creative mediums much sooner.
The hard truth is that its not really up for debate; AI is not going away; its going to get better and it is going to be used by a lot of companies and people who need things created. I think AI will replace the jobs of many print artists, comic book authors, UX designers, graphic designers, video editors, audio engineers and many many more! - Its not nice to be replaceable, but it happens
However the technology itself makes me really excited! In the same way as computers and software like Unity or even your web editor has allowed you to create things that would have been impossible 30 years ago, in 30 years we will be able to make things that are impossible today! I think AI is an amazing tool and its gonna have the potential to really positively impact the world and our creative lives.
Is AI created imagery Art though? I don't think so. Good art is about the human soul, it has to say something new - the one thing an AI can never do is say something new, it does not have the ability to interpret true meaning or play on our expectations - the day an AI can do that is the day that the AI will be indistinguishable from a human - anndd we don't live in Blade Runner just yet
The question for artists and people working in other creative engineering jobs is- how soon is my job going to be replaced, and what can I do to evolve and stay ahead of that moment. Thats something we all have to do in our careers anyway, not just ones threatened by AI - the cycle of change never stops!
There will always be things that can be replaced, but there will also always be things that can never be replaced. Could an AI have ever predicted the evolution of the web revival? Could an AI ever have imagined the simple joy someone gets from looking at a site that they made themselves because they wanted a website when they were a child?
AI created media can be pretty, or weird, or uncannily accurate - but thats just on the surface and a pretty artwork is not necessarily a good artwork, good art comes from the soul - or perhaps it speaks to the soul - its created in the interpretation of the human who defines it and the human who perceives it - unlike technology, art does not get better, it just changes - everything else is just a tool, and its how you use that tool which makes it art or not.
This is cool, thanks for posting it! I didn't actually know Matrix had group servers like Discord, I thought it was just a private messenger! I might drop by some time
I think that this could be a good thing. It is natural for users to be more or less interested in a site, and the lack of addiction/feedback loop features means that those
Thats a great point, and totally what Id hope for!
Id also add that you'd be amazed how often I get password reset emails from people who have not logged in for months (even over a year) - I think sometimes people just forget how to login But thats fine, we all go through phases on interest and disinterest in a subject - its fine to drop out of something and come back to it years later (as long as people are not depending on you!)
Hi, I could be wrong but I don't think Onio is asking for joke replies on this topic - please keep your posts related to what the topic creator is asking for!
My confession: Hmmm - I once made a mod for a game that was literally just a blank cube, and I tried to hype it up like it was the biggest mod ever created and everyone was gonna need the cube in their game.. but I messed up zipping the mod files so it didn't work and I didn't know how to fix it..
Ugh exploding is a real drag, I hope you'll share some pixel art! Bees are very organised and productive!
