Hi, its been over a year since I first wrote the forum rules and guidelines - we've gown a LOT since then, so I felt it was necessary to do a large revamp of them to make sure this space can remain the nice space it is going forward - Iv also had a few people asking me to make the rules easier to find, so they are now on a dedicated wiki page!
For most of you there wont be any recognisable difference, however please pay attention anyway - the biggest change is how I'll be moderating links on the forum and in the surf-club - sites linked on the forum and in the surf-club must share the main principals we use on this forum - this was always an unspoken rule, but its now in writing! Please take a moment to think if your site is suitable and if your unsure send me a pm and we can discuss!
Uggh, moderation is the worst part of my job here, so I hope this is the last we will have to deal with this for a while Once your done dealing with all these rules, please make yourself a cup of tea and do something nice, thats what Im gonna do now
Wow a Geocities OG! The first I heard of it was actualy when Yahoo shut it down in 2009 - I remember thinking.. oh thats weird - then I forgot about it for 6 years - but Im glad I found my way back to it eventually too! Do you know if any of your sites are in the archives?

Hi, this is just a quick topic I felt was necessary to create!
Im aware many of you might be coming from other internet communities which either have very strict moderation, or very little moderation - MelonLand is different. Moderation here is constant and low-key - I try my best to assess and deal with each issue and situation individually - however I cant do that without your help!
There is a "Report to moderator" button on every message and its ok to use it! I wont ban someone if you report them, but I will consider your request and try to take a fair action if any action is needed. Even if you're not sure if its a real issue, report it, my job (for better or worse) is to decide what should be on this forum
Examples things you should report:
Inappropriate material that obviously breaks the rules
Topics that are so great they should be pinned or read by me!
Messages that seem rude or unkind
Unwelcome private messages
Messages you cant read because the colour or font is weird
Topics that don't have proper titles or descriptions, or messages that don't add to the discussion
Anything you feel that spoils your vibe in this community
Messages where someone is sharing information that might put them or others at risk
Mis-leading or dangerously incorrect information
Anything that detracts from your ability to enjoy the forum!
Things that you should not do:
Please don't publicly call someone out - its not fair on them or you, and it potentially puts you at risk.
Please don't message non moderators about moderation issues - don't be a vigilante, and don't confront or apologise to users you think you might have upset, wait for a moderation discussion to be finished and ask a moderator if its ok to contact someone about the issue.
Please don't ignore an issue to protect someone - things get worse if they are not addressed
Its a lot of work managing a forum, and you guys can really help me out! Just remember that reporting a message is ok, and its not a big deal - its just a way to let me know I might need to pay a little more attention to a message!
If any of you are in the Austin, Texas area on the 21st on this month - All three Ozwomp Games will be on display (including the relaunch of the mysterious abandoned Ozwomp is Online)
There will be a many other cool games at the event too, and lots of people to meet! - Its hosted by The Museum of Human Achievement, which is a group I actually found via one of the staffs Neocities pages, so it should be totally the right vibe for people here.
Obviously I wont be there because I live about 7000 miles away, but I sure hope people have a good time there, and I'll be paying special attention to Mastodon to see if anyones sending me questions or pictures of the event!
Also thanks to a few of you who have contributed assets or play testing to Ozwomp games in the past - or are generally Ozwomp fans I hope to refocus a lot more on games projects this year, so this is a great start!

Gifts Given: An aunt got a copy of the Royal Game of Ur (a Babylonian board game) because she likes board games - side note you can play a cool digital version made by a friend of mine! Another aunt got two 18th century cook books (reprints) by Amelia Simmons and Hannah Glasse because we both enjoy the Townsends youtube channel. My grannie got a mug with the local news channels logo printed on it because she's ALWAYS watching the news I also got some people chocolates, make your own friendship bracelets, iron on t-shirt stickers, a pair of headphones and those kits where you make crystal landscapes grow.
Gifts Received: I got pig slippers, a hot water bottle, a hat (not sure about that, I don't tend to wear hats), MONEY , Turkish delights, some pasta sauce??, a spatula (to use with the sauce?), thermal t-shrits. AND this Apple Pencil which maybe is a bit of a conflict of ideals but its also cool and Im happy to have a real apple pencil now!
More options/ the possibility of using a custom hex code for your default text color? The options just seem really limited right now.[/color]
So the big issue with colours is that colours apply to both the default dark theme, but also the optional light theme (which you can select in your profile look/layout) - so whatever colours I add generally need to be readable and nice on both forum themes - Your welcome to try out some colours and test on both themes! We cactualy have a dedicated thread for that - https://forum.melonland.net/index.php?topic=155.0 - If you find any good ones I can add them!
The official stance is that this forum promotes and encourages posting on old threads - old-discussing warnings should be disabled? - A big part of why I wanted to create a forum was to allow a slow form of discussion, with days or even months between each post, and maybe we are now at a point where there could be years between posts ^^
I just finished watching White Noise (2022) (its on Netflix) - OMG Im still processing, but this might be the most important movie of the decade! - Go and watch it!

This is a great guide and I enjoy the colours! - You might wanna move it to the tutorials section though? If you like you're welcome to link to it in the wiki, maybe we could make a guides collection!

Have you considered instead of making a live chat - why not do an e-mail-in chat - people e-mail you their questions and answers and you post them! - You could also add your own input!

Generally I would assume that all sites use cookies unless they explicitly say they don't
Web 1.0 means a website that is not dynamically generated - so this forum is Web 2.0 but EVERY site on Neocities is a 1.0 site because its a "static" site - 1.0 also sometimes refers to the aesthetic style of 90s sites - You can totally use new technologies on a modern web 1.0 site unless you explicitly want it to work correctly on 90s computers.
E-Mail in chat is a valid option and is very quirky
If its a chat cafe, it should have chat topics like this!
