Ok so it depends very much on where you live, prices can very wildly depending on location - if your in the US or UK those countries tend to get the best used deals.
Assuming your in the US and with a very quick search I found these two:
They are both well within your price; they both have FHD/1080p screens (which sounds like what your gonna be happy with) - I think they are both from 2017, thats old but still fine.
I'd pick the 470, its more compact like you said (I use a 14" laptop and it a comfy size) - 16GB of RAM is ideal, it has an SSD so it'll be fast, it has USB C for modern devices. Best of all it has a removable battery, so you can replace it really easy if you need too! The downside is that the screen quality is not amazing, but its fine - audio quality is not amazing but fine.
Lenovo products have failed me so I probably wouldn't pick one but I guess if you're mostly browsing the web it might work?
Maybe thats an issue, Iv never used their consumer laptops - this is a business one so they tend to be very sturdy.
Obvs this is just one recommendation; its the best I can recommend (based on what you've said, what I know, and 15 mins research) but it might not be perfect; so just take it as one option
New laptops are always fun to shop for There's a few questions id ask you if I were a laptop sales person! (I get very obsessed when I do laptop shopping)
How portable does it need to be? e.g. will you be carrying it lots? How big a screen do you want? (very connected to how portable it needs to be) - (16:10 in 15" is the ideal size for me, but you might feel otherwise, what have you enjoyed in the past?) Do you care about battery life or will it always be plugged in? - Older laptops prob wont be good for battery. Annnd finally whats your budget?
For second hand stuff; Id find something that used to be top-of-the-line expensive but is now cheap, it will have aged well and should have a serious screen n stuff. For web design and art Id put all my focus on getting a great screen with good colour accuracy. Maybe a fancy business laptop - you can often get those cheap because businesses sell them off in bulk. Dell XPSs are almost always solid and very reliable (if a bit boring) :omg:k: Lenovo Thinkpads are good too because they are kinda chunky and retro, but often very powerful because their for professional use. (Id get a Thinkpad )
This is very cool! I have to admit I mostly drew poos, but the idea is really cute, so I didn't wanna spoil it by sharing those
The aqua text on brown is a bit hard to read but thats my only comment! I also tried to draw some proper snowflakes, but it turns out I have no idea how to draw a snowflake?? Snowflake drawing tips would be handy
This was a concept I came up with and implemented today! Traditionally sites have site-maps, a site map is a list of every page on the site to help people find what they need. However I never really felt that site-maps suit web revival sites.. but at the same time I needed a way to help people explore my site for the first time (particularly if they are less experimental or don't understand the concept right away)
So how about site tours - basically a short guide to a site that lets you bring people on a journey through your pages and lets you give some background info about things; like your on a tour of a historic location.
Lemmy know what you think, also lemmy know if there's anyway my guide could be improved or how the overall consept could be improved.. Im sure theres lots of ways, I had 2 hours sleep :omg:k:
I feel like people might expect me to have a super custom desktop, but I actualy just use one of the default wallpapers - I really like the current gen of wallpapers! I keep a notepad app open for ideas - a few of the icons in the dock are custom - and a lot of the menubar is using iStat. In the bottom right are quick action apps that do things like compress images! Overall I think its functional
Iv not looked at the code much - it looks annoying but a super hacky solution that should totally work would be to put an iFrame in each player box of your table and then have the separate players in separate html files in your iframes. They'd be forced into the table because they'd be forced to stay inside their iframes! You'd have to fiddle a bit to make it look cohesive but I think it should work without too much trouble as long as you get the sizes right.
It makes me sad that today's generation considers these "cringe" or whatever. I've always found them fun to watch and a good way of finding new songs and bands that I like.
Honestly I still enjoy them no matter what the current-day culture thinks of it. People are always offended by something anyway.
Mantra of the web revival; Cringe Culture is Dead, Everything is Cool Now!
I know the feeling, I don't know anyone irl who's into site making; and Iv reaaalllyyy tried to convince a few friends to make their own homepage, but none of them have the GUMPTION!

Thanks a lot for the advice by the way, I've been wondering how to smooth out loading (and also keep the limited memory space of the website in check since I can't buy a membership yet), but somehow the thought of jpg format completely evaded me. I'll definitely need to go re-render my pages again when I have time.
This is using comic.js! Hmm, Im not sure how able you are to edit JS - but 100% this would be improved if it pre-loaded the next image - e.g. if you're on page 3 it should load the image from page 4 with the CSS display set to none (making it invisible). So, when you click next it would load instantly, no matter how big your images are!
Might be worth asking the comic.js maker to add that feature, it would be really helpful for everyone!
Ooph you really lost a long post like that, Im really impressed you wrote another, I prob would have rage quit after that :omg:k: With old forums its always a good idea to select-all copy every few minutes just in case (but I guess you've learned that the hard way!).
Also wow this is an ANTHOLOGY! Im always happy to see long form posts, people are so used to short chat messages; I feel like they might have forgotten how to wrote longer texts, its always a pleasure to have something to read for a few minutes.
As I was reading this I started to think about the idea that no one really creates anything; we listen to what the universe or our inner voice says and then we just happen to move our limbs in the right way to make that message appear in the world. It sounds like over the last year you started to find the space to listen to that voice! It makes me realise how frequently the modern world tries to drown out that voice of creation we all have
Iv never been a fan of the "I made a thing" phrase, its demeaning; you didn't make a thing, you made a website and a comic, own it! and more importantly you became a comic artist (well I assume you've been one for a while, but you know what I mean, you embodied it!)
I really enjoyed your comic! Its dark, but humorous and optimistic? I look forward to seeing what happens next A bit of web design feedback - I recommend converting the pages to jpeg and web optimising them, you'll get a smoother load-in than with big pngs - also why does it say Im on page 31 when Im on page 3??.
Lonnnnnnnnnng cats
I hope you enjoy the forum! Regulars are great, but even if you only find yourself visiting once a year, you're always welcome

If you can link the ttf file from somewhere else thats fine, no supporter needed, as long as its a raw link! (but be aware if that other host goes down i'll break fonts on your site!)
Neocities does support fonts Although firstly I assume you need to be a supporter to upload them (you can still link them form other hosts like ichi.city)
How to:
Its really simple, you just need a ttf file (the standard font file you get from most font sites) and then I like to make a font.css file to make adding the font to a page simple. Iv attached both below as examples (basiic font made by cinni!!)
Then to add it to your webpage just link the css and set your font.
Those are both major events! Everyones different, but it takes me years to get through breakups Also having stuff stolen is horrible; I had my glasses stolen in LAX and I missed my flight I was so upset.
Thats my way of saying that its ok to be upset, and its ok to be upset a lot and for a long time; I know there is always a rush to feel better again, but feeling bad when bad things happen is necessary and good and you should not feel like you need to hide it or rush out of it. Im sorry these things have happened, its unfair and no good!
After that, the best things you can do are to just treat yourself kindly (and don't blame yourself); drink hot chocolate, go for walks to nice places, work on things you enjoy. Most of all talk to people, friends and family, whoever you're close with; talking to people is always the best way forward - and often its the thing we avoid most (also it can be productive, someone might have a laptop they can lend you).
I know its a bit bland to say; but eating well, physical activity and socialising are the most basic and most powerful tools for humans to feel good! So focus on the basics for a while and take it day by day.
You're worthwhile and deserve better, and better things will come; they always do, and they will make yesterday look dull in comparison I know its a bit cheesy, but this channel helped me when I was down.
