Definitely not a geezer! I think its really important to have a wide range of people in any community; I'm still hoping to get some 80 year olds on here, so you'll be one of the kids when they join

✁ ∙ Web Crafting / Please share your 88x31 badge making tips!
« on: December 06, 2022, 08:01:53 pm »
Im gonna be working a wiki page about making 88x31 badges sooooon! If anyone would like to share tips, or write your own mini guides that would be helpful!
What program do you use; how do you plan your design, how long do you spend on it; what steps do you take when making your badge; or did someone make your badge for you, and if so, how did you find them and ask them?

Hi erie, welcome to the forum :4u:

The Garden Song by Phoebe Bridgers is totally one of my favourite songs at the moment! Its super heartbreaking in the best way. Do you like Weyens Blood? (I always associate those two artists). And the trueman show is iconic

Im not sure if this topic is acutely gonna work by its very nature  but, what are the things you love that literally no one else relates too? None of your friends are into them, no one else you know online is into them. Do you have things like that?? Am I the only one?? :TnT:

Thanks midi! :loved:

I have to admit, I do sometimes ask myself (particularly when dealing with moderations issues) "why do I do this community stuff" :omg:k: annd Im not really sure I know why... but hearing feedback like this defo makes it feel worth it.

Its a nice feeling to be able to provide a space that makes people feel good; and I hope it grows too, but I also don't mind if it doesn't; maybe one of the lessons of the web revival is that its fine when things stay small; Id like to see a world full of nice small places!

✑ ∙ Writers Corner / Re: Staying on task
« on: December 06, 2022, 12:05:41 am »
Im am the high priest of procrastination so Im not sure how much advice I can really offer  But Iv found that I tend to procrastinate for a reason; sometimes its related to the task Im trying to do, or sometimes its totally unrelated. For example when I was doing my final paper in college, I loved the papers subject, but there was a bunch of personal issues going on in my life that made it totally impossible to focus on my paper, I wasn't able to write until I'd sorted out those other things. Likewise, sometimes I procrastinate because Im worried about the thing Im working on, maybe I don't know how to do it 100% or Im worried its a bad idea.

So its worth taking the time to think about what might be causing you to hold back and if there's anything that can be done if there is. I agree with the others above, meditation can be a great way to get in touch with your thoughts, and after that a bit of basic organisation can really help. (I use todo lists for projects - lots of little tasks like "edit that paragraph" or "remove a link" so they are easy to get into)

I find video tours of spaces people have made really inspiring too! This clip is great, its about some guy who made a tea/poetry house - it incorporates all sorts of philosophies and I really like the idea of making spaces (both digital and physical) and are designed to inspire certain feelings and actions. (Skip to 15 mins to see the bit)

I should add that I was thinking of an influencer as someone who "broadcasts and effects peoples opinions on something"; but I can also understand how its often heavily linked to "following trends and trying to gain numbers as a primary goal".

If those are the two sides of the coin in this discussion; I have an extra question! Can we/Should we reclaim the idea of an influencer? Can we turn it into something positive? Can you influence by just being yourself? Can you have a voice without pushing negative trends and hogging attention?

I like to believe that if your true to yourself, you do the things you love, and share those things honestly and creatively; that you can and will effect change in people who come in contact with you. Maybe Im very naive though!

Ah yes, chocolate oranges appear here tooo, although I think of After Eights being more of a Christmas chocolate thingy.

Stockings were first here too (I could open mine as long as it was after 6am and I DID NOT wake up my parents  Christmas morning TV was exciting) Main present opening is always in the afternoon and is a very big event in my family. I think Christmas for us is more like thanksgiving for Americans? Its centred around a big meal that all the sub-families (uncles and cousins) come to stay for (my family spans a lot of countries so visits are a big deal). My dad used to spray santa footprints on the floor with spray snow which freaked me out.

We used to have a living tree in a big pot we would being into the house to decorate every year; but it didn't like it very much and got.. really bad looking :ohdear: We always go for a Christmas afternoon walk in the park (or sometimes at night in the rain after dinner). My granddad used to like trying to get all the kids drunk on Champagne and we always watch inappropriate horror movies. There is always a Christmas pudding thats gets set on fire?

Christmas gets less fun as you get older, but one thing I do every few years is wrap up all my favourite presents from past years and old toys and put them back under the tree; then even if its a quite Christmas, you can have a big unwrapping event and you can appreciate your old stuff again

2019 was great, I got myself an Atari and my old VHS player which mostly worked sometimes! We watched old VHS movies like the Dark Crystal; it was nice to have the old TV loved as the centre of media after it was unused for so many years. I guess I have a very strong emotional connection with objects :loved:

Oh one other thing thats not really a tradition, but Iv been pushing it the last few years is to make Christmas more crafty - I buy people like craft kits as presents (like make your own glow insects or something) and then people can sit down and make stuff when they are bored - Mostly I end up doing it on my own because people are lazy, but i really love craft toys!
