OK so this is now closed; thank you for entering!

Since there were actually only 3 entries Iv decided to change the rules; Instead of picking 2 winners and adding 1 person to the honour list; First prize will go to all three entries since they are all great anyway! Its actually super cool how different each of your entries are, and they all seem really high effort so I dont think its fair to pick

I'll send each of you a PM later about your MelonTown Plot! And your names will be added to a short honour list in the town hall.

i find myself less anxious on what I put on my website.

I agree; I think its because the dopamine reward system is missing on websites. On a social network if you post a picture and no one likes it you (at least I) feel like a looser for posting a picture that no one likes; however on a website I have no idea what people like, so I don't worry about it

That leaves way more room to relax and not respond to peer pressure; its also one of the reasons Iv mostly stopped using Discord, its react system is totally the opposite of that.. Im not sure if its possible to have a social network that deliberately has no dopamine system, but Id love to see a study about it!

I think you and me are the two biggest movie buffs on the forum, so It'll be intresting to see who else replies  Lets see Im gonna have to invent a few genres here!

Comedy
The Darjeeling Limited (2007) - My fav Wes Anderson film, its also a great travel film so Im cheating!

Travel
Wild (2014) - I might have already grown out of this one, but its a really good movie.

Fantasy
The Dark Crystal (1982) - What a weird movie, I was given it on VHS by my first crush wen I was about 7 :loved:

Sci-fi
Until the End of the World (1991) - The original cut was 20 hours long! I recommend the 6 hour version; I think this movie changed my life but m not sure how.

Action
Repo Man (1984) - Its so perfect its almost generic!

Teen Drama
Empire Records (1995) - Not actually a great movie, but it captures something about the 90s that I feel like we've lost today.

Drama
Lost in Translation (2003) - I think this is the best film of all time; I die every time I watch it.

Thriller
Rear Window (1954) - Its amazing how a film thats entirely set in one room is so captivating.

Animation
Porco Rosso (1992) - Spirited Away might be their best film, but this grows on me more every year.

Western
True Grit (2010) - I love the way they did the language in this, its just a perfect western all around.

Granted, but the person you love and would want to fly too no longer loves you, so you lose the will to fly at all

I wish I had a bowl of unlimited soup that was always fresh and hot!

« on: October 30, 2022, 02:04:48 am »
Iv been playing A Plague Tale: Requiem; I never played the first game so I went into it blind; ACTUALLY I went into it not expecting to play it at all; I just wanted to test the graphics on my laptop :omg:k: So at about 8pm I decided to play for 20 mins to test it; the next time I looked at the clock it was 3am... Its a compelling game with really enjoyable voice acting; even if some of the action sections are a bit repetitive. The whole thing is like a dream/nightmare sequence and I really like that!

So you can totally disregard my opinion because Iv literally only played the first few sections so far.. but I kinda stoped playing because the game as a whole left me feeling icky? Im not exactly sure how to describe it.. but it feels like a game made for reddit users and Musk fans? (Im sure there are many wonderful reddit users! and maybe one wonderful Musk fan?) but.. I dunno it just gave me a bad vibe that did not make me want to return to it.

Im disappointed by that because I really wanted to enjoy it! I love large open RPGs and Im always a fan of Bladerunner-esq worlds so it seemed right up my ally.. maybe I'll return to it again and have a better experience.

The three starting choices are city kid, country kid and corporate manager. I picked city kid first but didn't like the bar where the game started, so then I picked country kid and quite enjoyed seeing the city from the outside; they also team you up with this big dude who was pretty cool but seems to be into crime.. actualy everyone in the game seems to be intro crime, except the police but they just seem like jerks

I'm not sure if this counts, but I love seeing the things people have been doing with Vinyl

I think thats totally part of it, because without streaming platforms making music super convenient; then no one would really be interested in exploring and investing in vinyl; its a great example of taking the pressure off something to allow it to grow, which is something that I think people forget you can do a lot!

Woah I have never heard of Laser Phosphor Displays before! If they have the ability to capture that glow and brightness you get from CRTs it would be really cool!

Im not sure if post-digital is the right term; or maybe it should be like.. digi-analog? ANYWAY, its a focus on design that is not fully digital but is intended to be used in a digital world.

One example I came across today is this nixie clock on Techmoan (skip to 6 mins to actually seeee it)

The clock is very analogue; but it also has Wifi and GPS features. Im always interested by things that combine opposites and create unusual new hybrids. However there are plenty of pros and cons; the biggest con in my mind is always practicality; Im always conflicted by practicality, aesthetics and the personal philosophies I have related to both.

What are your thoughts on post-digital design and how do you think it could/couldn't fit into your life as an enthusiast of unusual counter culture things (if you're on this forum I assume you are that )

Wow 500 million is a really long time ago; thats long enough ago that we are probably related to him :omg: OMG I need to make a webpage that calculates how many greats would be needed for this to be a grandfather!

The oldest thing Iv seen is the Tetrapod Trackway in Kerry ( https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/tetrapod-trackway ); but thats only 380 million... Opabinia was already 120 MILLION years old when the tetrapod was waddling along.. aaahhh time!! My mind has been boggled :ozwomp: Whats the use of anything, we are only links in a chain, life is so short, why must people fight, and where is my proboscis!

Hi nymphaeaphoo :4u:

Wow you have a super high effort website; its very unique though I like it. Whats your favourite extinct animal? Mine is Quetzalcoatlus because it was really big and has a whacky as heck name; also when I was little I used to be terrified that these dudes lived in my house and would get me if I left the fireplace at night :ohdear: Ugh I guess the real terror is the human mind and even fireplaces cant protect us from that...

Hi Glitch, welcome to the forum :cheerR:

Wow cybersecurity.. please do not look at the backend of this website   Those are very interesting areas though; I remember learning about a key in box and the box gets locked but only the person who's receiving it has the key, so they lock it in another box and send the first box locked in a second box and the boxes are set on fire and decorated like cheese wheels, OMG cryptography is complicated!
