Thats actually the same reason I didn't post anything there, I was unsure what to do I think prob just a link to the pot will make more sense long term.
There are MANY options; the big basic question is how techy are you willing to be? I don't know much about good free non-techy ones.. so I'll leave that answer to someone else
The techy-paid answer:
I have tried a few different forum softwares in the past (and made my own from scratch). SimpleMachines (this one) is pretty good, its a bit clunky though. phpBB I think is also a good choice. I would avoid the others unless you want to get into fancy modern forums like Discourse, but those are much harder to setup.
Then you need somewhere to host it! Basically any paid webhost that offers php (all of them) is fine; if you dont wanna pay you can use (https://leprd.space) although they seem to be out of stock?? Im not sure if anyone knows any other free hosts?
Most hosts offer something called cPanel, its like a web UI that should let you install a forum with RELATIVELY minimal effort; you also need a MySQL database, but your host will also provide that too ^^
Finally, I dunno if you've ever purchased a domain name (like melonland.net) but you'll need one of them too. They cost around $10 a year and you'll need to get one to go along with your forum!
Ooo-- You've Received Melon's Welcome Pack --ooO * If you haven't already check out the forum welcome post, and forum usage guide! * New to website making? Here is a complete(ish) guide! * Visit your look/layout to pick a theme and set a default colour/font for your messages! * Feeling shy and unsure what to do? Maybe post a song you like here! * Finally don't forget to share the forum and invite friends! We have some way cool graphics over here!
You're more than welcome to use any of mine, although I think this is also an interesting discussion point!
Iv done a few guides and talks where I have used peoples sites as examples; in some situations Iv asked permission but in others I have not. It's a very fair argument that a site is public and therefor can be freely viewed by anyone in any context; HOWEVER there is a flip side to that argument by saying that highlighting a site in the wrong context could get it unusual any maybe unwanted attention.
In your case I don't think that an othercon would get the wrong sort of attention, but I would be curious to hear general opinions.
i´ve got elder scrolls online on sale and i´m trying to figure out the right time to play. Also been thinking of playing Bugsnax, Disco Elysium and those old Asterix and Obelix XXL games
I have mixed feelings about ESO, it does have some good stories to play, but they kinda feel lost in an MMO, your not able to get immersed in it the same as the single player games. BUT its still worth a try!
Speaking of which Id love to play through the old elder scrolls games.. but I find the graphics and limitations always put me off
Actually, i was super obsessed with this video, i would watch it 3 times a day, i don't even know why!
I think creepy things can be mentally healthy; its like they help you get to parts of your psychology that you don't always get to reach.. and it can be a bit like scratching an itch? Im in favour of people exploring the darker parts of their mind in safe settings.
I wasn't sure if this belonged in the General or the Movies/TV section since I'm mostly talking about the weird videos you stumble across on YouTube, but
I enjoyed both of these clips immensely
I cant say I know many good creepy clips myself, but Iv always liked creepy kids movies like Coraline.. and to a much lesser extent The Plague Dogs (never watch it its actually horrible)
This jumps to mind.. I actually hate this video too its the worst!
I do enjoy when people mention the forum on discords, everyones always like woah :omg:k:

It sounds like you might actually need something more like ArtStation if you are just looking to showcase your work in the most convenient way. I don't think you can embed that in a site though. I would suggest putting your fav images on your site by hand, keeping it all in one place; and linking out to something like ArtStation if you need a more serious showcase.
In terms of regular site images, definitely not! Putting images on a separate host to your html introduces an extra point of failure in your site and may make the site a little slower since the browser needs to load stuff from many locations instead of one!
For on-site video its a different story! Use a dedicated video host like Vimeo; loading videos from typical web servers is always clunky since its a much more complex streaming process.
For audio; on-site or offsite are both ok since typically you only have one file loaded at a time so there is not much impact.
You can certainly hand code a gallery of images and its not hard! It just involves a lot of copy and pasting Good file organisation and image compression help too and thats also good practise for keeping an archive of your work.
Also what Frugal said ^^ thats a great thread to bring up!
I remember watching You've Got Kat's video a while, ago, it was a good intro if I recall! Id like to see more youtube coverage about web stuff.. like a hybrid of tutorial videos and lets plays but of web sites?? I think it would work!
"girly anime from the 80s-00s" thats an interesting idea, I totally understand what you mean.. but it does make me wonder why exactly anything should be considered girly or non girly I would like to live in a world where people can like what they like no matter who they are.
As taro said, looking forward to seeing what you do on your site

Im never sure how I feel about sites like this, partly they are amazing.. but also they are kinda off-putting? I think when something goes too far it looses its soul.. in great chaotic design there needs to be a tension between control and chaos for it to really work.
So Im not really sure why this site is SO extreme! I know its funny to look at a crazy old site and go ha look at that.. but this makes me worry about the person who was making it, I hope they are ok and that they managed to express what they clearly needed to express. My guess is they really were bored by the bridal dress business and needed a career change :omg:k: I guess the crazy design did get them some business though, like those over the top tv ads people used to do for mattress shops.
I do like that their source keywords are "<meta name="keywords" content="Yvette's, health, fitness, weightloss, weight loss, religion, space aliens">" they don't even mention dresses
