Iv been thinking of making a start page for my browser for a while now. (Like the first page that loads when you open a browser)
I wanted to make something that was actually useful.. so it should have links to key sites that a person might wanna check.. maybe it could pull in info from status cafe, or spacehey or the neocities recent updates or something..
Then maybe even it could be customisable so some of this stuff could be modifiable and others could use it as their start page too..
So Im looking for ideas, what should a web revival start page look like, and what would it have on it? Whats your dream start page or have you already made one for yourself?
I agree with everything here! It sounds like what you really want is some sort of folder you can put your images in, then run a command and it will resize your images and create a html page with them all in a big grid?
I like your site "of all the places i exist on the internet, this is one of them" this is a very true statement And I think the argument of are broken links a feature is interesting; there is a temporal beauty to decay; often digital spaces have no sense of time, but broken links have a sense of loss; they are gateways that close and moments that are lost; that doesn't need to mean anything, but time means a lot to humans :omg:k:

Hiii welcome to the forooom! Im a long standing Trekkie too (Although I refuse to watch anything made after Voyager), I started rewatching from the start of NextGen in the pandemic and Im nearly done with Voyager again... Whats your favourite?
Neocities is great for beginners, but its far from perfect, the social aspect can be stressful, and uploading/loading is a bit slow; so don't feel too bad about not using it. I think its prob better not to have everyones site on the same host anyway!
I enjoy your sims page, did "'Butthead' Mary Jane Ann Uglypoor" every accomplish her schemes??

If there's a way to switch it to the other one please let me know! I can't seem to find an option to move it myself.
You can actually move your own topics; scroll down to the very end past all the posts and there should be a "move topic" button! Its done anyone though!
Fascinating! Iv never seen someone do a good doc site before. Its VERY zine aesthetic, you could sell copies of the site as a zine!
It seems like one of those slow burner kind of things, where you need to look at it a few times to start to see things, there's a lot going on here; I will inspect it further!
Hi welcome too the forum, and thank you for the kind words
I think if I was 18 again Id have gone into graphic work instead of programming, but then again there's still time! Its super cool that you've found a way to build a business like that
I tend to check the unread posts multiple times a day
Don't forget you can also follow the RSS feed at the bottom and it'll send new posts right to your feed reader!

On the Firefox version the first colour is the bit you drag and the second colour is the background; note the * will make it chnage EVERYTHING that can scroll, if you only want to change the body scroll or scrolls within iframes you can change * to "body" or "iframe" etc The Chrome/Safari version has WAY more options, you can do some really intense customisation on it, but at its simplest, the first 2 affect the background and the thumb is the bit you drag!
Wow a tough audience! I appreciate the directness and feedback!
Looking at it in the fresh morning light, Im quite happy with the Rugrats design; the yellow is softer than a harsh white and its much easier to read than most other colours. I gotta fix it on moble though!
As for the nav buttons at the top! There is a logic to them, each line has a purpose (login, wiki management, page management, search). I did test putting them all on a single row and that did not work at all.. ssoooo I don't have a better idea right now (although we could snap the whole nav section to the right of the logo instead of under it, that would raise the main article as Ice suggested).. I think when we've all used it a bit more we'll have a better idea of how to improve it.
Ultimately there is no design that everyone will like, however I think adding a dark-mode toggle might help for some of you? (Would that help with the harshness Pepyogurt?)
Also, will talk pages be coming t:ha:are possible on this wiki? Speaking of wiki features: is it also possible to add templates to this wiki?
If you wanna dig in more its running on DokuWiki I think both of those features should be possible, but they might require plugins! I will defo look into them, but at the same time I wanna keep it super simple to start with so it's not intimidating for people to use.
Hiii, ooph Iv been having one of those weeks where everything is difficult and I don't want to do anything BUT I did scrape together a wiki based on Ice's suggestion!
Still not 100% on the design yet Also its very empty! So I hope you guys will write some nice things on it to fill it out more! Please create pages and add whatever you want; for now Forum Rules and Guidelines apply to the wiki too please!
Im thinking its main use is to act as a place for community guides and definitions of things; the kind of stuff thats not so well suited to a forum. Everyone is free to edit everything, however please be respective and try to add information that is widely agreed on by people here.
To start writing on it you just need to log in with your forum account, so no new account needed! Lemmy know if you have any feedback or issues!
Hiii, you've been welcome to the forum for a while
Mortician seems like a cool job to have! Do you watch Ask A Mortician on Youtube?? Also do you really live in Albuquerque? The Albuquerque balloon festival is one of my goals in life to seee

Anywayyy, welcome to the forum! I see you've already made some great posts, so Im glad your not shy about posting When I saw you're name first I was like "wow I wonder if that breaks the forum" but it seems to be fine!
Im always super impressed by anyone who can do anything with linguistics because I literally cant learn languages I also love your site, its super clean and cozy (I think you were working on it because the links were broken, but they work now)
