Hmm, typically I have an idea of the kind of vibe and loose layout I want for a page, but I have no particular plan. Sometimes I get started on a page and it goes amazingly and its perfect right away... BUT more often than not it totally does not work and the idea needs rethinking :ohdear: Also a lot of the time I start pages very simply (Like putting 3 images and a header) and then I evolve them over time.

I think in both cases its a mix of having ideas, knowing how other people have done things, and trial n error. I might make 100-10,000 edits on a new page as Im creating it. Going back and forth with different images and colours and sizes of things.

The nature of the stuff on the page informs how the page needs to look, and vice versa, the way the page needs to look decides what can be put on it. Its a dance! :ozwomp:

Also no need to worry about established community stuff (this forums only 7 months old!) you're more than welcome to jump in and do things your way :grin: Its an experiment for everyone.

This reminds me I need to write down my soup recipe! (Soup scholars will want to know :O)

Hi Cy, welcome to the forum; we're so happy to have found you :ha: Older forums were never perfect, I didn't have the best experiences with them in the mid 00. BUT the goal here is to create the forum that everyone should have had; the forum that really was a great place that (I at least) never found :4u:

Annd thank you Ice, you beat me to it!

Oooo the Chao Garden was a huge inspiration, although I really liked the one on Sonic Advance most (maybe because its all I had). I used to have the sprite sheet for it stuck to my bedroom wall :ozwomp: Also Reader Rabbit is a professional game *solemn nod*

This is a topic for describing your life! What kind of place do you live in, who do you live with, whats kinda pets do you keep, whats your day like, what do you eat for dinner most, what kind of job/school do you do? Anything that you think describes your life right now, try to write at least a paragraph!

Partly Im curious to hear about some of the lives behind the faces on the forum, but I think also it might be intresting for anyone reading this forum as an archive in the future, like a time capsule! (Hello future!  :defrag:  :smile:)

Please don't share any personally identifiable information though!

I know so much about the internet history of otherkin, therians, and systems.

This was a SUPER interesting read! I think the evolution of web based cultures and communities (Particularly when they evolve into alternative perceptions of identity) is one of the most interesting things of the last 50 years and I would never have known about these ones without this post. Id love to hear more!
 :omg:

Oh thats super cool! Im doing a public talk soon to about websites, so Iv been preparing material as well. Iv got 2 objectives with my talk;
1. To introduce people to the idea of the web revival even if they have never heard or seen anything like it before.
2. To inspire people to get involved in it and take it seriously as a platform for art and a medium of art.

I think people like stories, so Im gonna try and weave a story based on my own philosophy and how I got into website making. Then I'm gonna mix that in with some fun examples of sites I made to keep it engaging. This is also partly why I wrote my website making guide, I wanted to clarify my ideas and get things really accessible for anyone hearing my talk; maybe there's a few things in there that would be helpful to you too.
I don't know any other systems personally, but Id sure like to see more of them around! So best of luck, Im sure you'll do great :4u:

Hi! Lemmy see, there are a few issues here.

Ok, so to start with! Your pages are not complete HTML; that's fine its a really common mistake and its easy to fix. Id suggest you take a look at my website guide which explains how a html page needs to be structured! https://thoughts.melonking.net/guides/introduction-to-the-web-revival-3-make-a-website

At the moment your missing the <body> and you haven't closed out the <html> tag, so the browser has to guess where to put things; that's gonna make your life a real pain!

(Aside: I'm guessing this is a Sadgrl layout? Sadness is fantastic, but I don't recommend starting with her layouts if your new, its really gonna make your life harder, but we will continue since you've come this far!)

Ok so to answer your questions! You're totally on the right track, keep going your almost there!

Question 1:
Quote
i want to have various links be called into the same box (about page, an article, etc), if im going in the wrong direction to do that/need to know something about that id love to know.
I think what your asking about is called a target, the way you do that is by giving the iFrame a name (like name="main":wink:, and then using target="main" on your links. That will make the link open in the iFrame called main.
Code
<a href="links.html" target="main">My Links Page</a>

Question 2:
Quote
i want to have the iframe take up the entire 'main content' box, and fit the style/color of it (right now, its at the bottom, and is also the same color as the site background)
This ones easy, give your iframe an id (like id="mainframe":wink: then make it width 100%, height: 100% in your CSS.
Code
#mainframe {
 width: 100%;
 height: 100%;
}
Then put it in your html code like this:
Code
<div id="content-container">
 <iframe src="home.html" id="mainframe" name="main"></iframe>
</div>
As for the colour, just remove the background colour from the page you're trying to open in the iFrame, if it has no background it will be clear.

Question 3:
Quote
when i load up the page, the content of the iframe is *already there*, when its supposed to only appear when the "about the name" link is clicked... and i dont understand why that is since all examples show it appearing after a link is clicked.
So whatever you put as the src of the iFrame is what will load first, so you need to put your homepage code (the stuff you have on your main content section right now) in a html file called like "home.html" and then load it as the src. Then you can load your other pages in the way I mentioned in Q1.

Ooph I hope that helps! Iv been doing this for such a long time, sometimes I forget what its like to be fresh at it :4u:

This has been updated to support iFrames!

♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: weird minecraft servers
« on: May 25, 2022, 02:21:54 am »
That's a super interesting idea; I was very into minecraft for a very long time (since 2010) and I ran servers for about 8 years, although they were mostly small community servers. We did a few interesting things like Skyblock mixed with a resource world so it was basicly making club houses in the sky, and a server that was nothing but ocean with islands. Nothing as radical as what you found though! My very last server was entirely a desert with one little oasis town.

Before minecraft I ran a bunch of super experimental servers in Blockland. One was like a world of infinite tunnels, and another was a world that was just an endless railroad and everyone travelled up and down it.

There used to be a lot of weird minecraft servers like that back in the day, but they got less and less common as players started just expecting everything to be hypixel; eventually it was just impossible to get players! Id suggest looking at the minecraft forums and planet minecraft forums (if they still exist?). They used to have server boards and the nice thing about a forum board is that its not based on upvotes or sponsorships, so you can see more unusual posts sometimes!
