Oooph, that sounds like a pretty similar story to a lot of people on here! It can be a very hard line to walk, how much to you make something for yourself knowing it may not reach the widest audience, verses making things for other people in order to make a living and follow your dream career. I'm still looking for the balance too! I think its possible though and you're in good company!

I have not coded html since 2017, and even then, I was not very good at it. Like what's a jQuery?
Firstly, you really dont need jQuery or any fancy libraries like that for a person site, yes its powerful, but with great power comes less fun! Andd thanks for reminding me, I reeaaallyyy need to write a short guide to getting started with/back into website making for homepages!

For a few years now I have had a very bland Wix site
So I tried using wix the other day as a joke, and I was actually surprised how good it is; you can do really quite dynamic fun stuff with it; although it still does not have the crisp handmade quality of a hand written site. I think if you can have fun using it, any site building system is the right one!
Sites are by their nature slower, they will never be as up to the moment as a social media feed because they are more work to make, that's a limit that you can work around and work with.
I think making a site can be as much a voyage of self discovery as self representation

I like cars (it is a crippling addiction), I collect video games, consume anime, and take photos. (:
Oooh, cars! That always seemed like a real adult hobby to me, I loved Rust Valley Restorers on Netflix, whats your fav sort of car?

Skimming your index page, it looks like you didn't put the <div id="shade"></div> on the page, so the style wont do anything
It needs to go right after your <body> tag for best results. ALSO You MIGHT sometimes find that there is a blank space at the top where the background does not show, if you run into that make sure nothing is adding margins to the body ^^
Hi, welcome to the forum, and glad you like the design!
Its actually a really common trick I use on my sites, the body has a regular background image; then there is an empty <div id="shade"></div> that is fixed and stretched and has the clouds as its background.
There is a bit of a glitch going on here because apparently "100% cover" is not a real setting, but it works so screw it!
I'm not fully sure what you mean by "text boxes in the middle" if you just want to center some content you can put it in a div and set a width and margin like so, then you can give it a background color and border to make it look like it is here!
wooo! let me know how it goes. im still new to making tutorials so anything specific i should explain LMK!
I think the biggest feedback I could give is these would really be improved with some narration. Things like "Now I'm working on the arms; I will do this using the extrude tool; when I started this I had a really hard time with X so now I find doing Y really helpful". I guess a little like the narration you get in these videos!
I was trying out a few games on Game Pass today (I got a new xbox :grin:smile:, one that really stood out to me was Sable. The animation style, the mood, the writing and the fact it has no combat are all really magical. I feel super inspired after playing through the first section of it!
Oooh thank you this is an excellent demo! Iv actually been forcing myself to learn Blender this week because I don't wanna pay for 3DSMax I might try follow along with this as a practice project!
What's interesting I think is its not just social media. My own site went on a transition from being a place I share stuff that I made, to being a site where I was making stuff to share. That was when I realized that for me web development was not about sharing art, the web development was the art. I think we are definitely on the road to a post-content web, where content no longer exists because content is the web.
Vaguely interesting story; I did have a lucid dream once back when I used to keep a dream journal. There were all these monsters in the shadows and I was standing in a city square, they had me surrounded; but then I realized it was a dream and I could control things, so I grabbed the sun (It was really heavy!) and dragged it into the sky to make all the shadows run away.

Hi AJ! Oooph the loss of geocities was like the burning of the great library of Alexandria! But it did lead to the creation of neocities and the web revival so some good came out of the dark ages of the late 00s
Im an artist too these days, that was an unexpected life turn.. but you know how it goes! I think neocities is a great place to have a portfolio site, it does not need to be perfect and you are in good company!
I look forward to seeing some of your work, and welcome to the forum

I've gotten quite the 'stage fright' since my site became semi-popular on Neocities T_T
Oh I'm sorry to hear that! I had a similar experience (talked a little about it here) it genuinely almost killed my site and still influences what I do. I think its why an awful lot of the good sites that made it to the front page over the years have gone poof. Most things that go up on MK today have a kind of polish and finish that.. in some ways is the opposite of what I wanted my personal site to be at the start, but I feel like quality is expected; so I get very uncomfortable posting about half finished ideas or notions on there.
Iv actually taken to using m15o's smol.pub site (or at least I keep meaning too) I made a blog on there where I try to just write about random ideas (I guess like what you'd call an xanga blog?). Its not a secret and people are welcome to follow it, but I wont be advertising it on any of my sites anytime soon; at least not until I get into it more regularly and feel more confident about that form of expression.
