Welcome, always glad when a new webmaster is afoot!
I used Tumblr too around 2015, but I agree it sorta lost its mood. Ah and professional sites, those are always a battle, Id love to hear how professional people have reacted to your current site as it leans more toward web revival than modern professional!

so many fights with boomers about musicals
I was just thinking we need more debates on this forum! Everyone gets along too well, I'm in favor of a healthy debate or two
Also I snooped your resume and I'm glad to see someones working on Mrs Masel, that show saved me in the last lockdown and I'm supper looking forward to the next season
Iv been watching this while working and I think a few people here would really enjoy it. It goes into who decides what emojis are created and some of the debates around them.
This is something I was thinking about a lot with MoMG and the most frequent question I get from non web people is (who made all these gifs) and of course the answer is that I do not know! All record of a gifs creator is lost unless its in the image itself.
I think it ties in deeply to Ted Nelsons arguments that maintaining a reliable connection between digital files and their authors is actually a really important issue. For us, I don't think it really matters who made a gif; but expand the same philosophy out to the wider web, does it matter who made a video or wrote an article? It totally does because not knowing who created something is the root of all misinformation (arguably).
I think there is a philosophical beauty though to the lost dream space of images that are created and lost and found and reused and lost again; their meaning changes over time along with their context and custodian. At the end of the day, the only thing that remains is art; as we build our virtual worlds, as they grow and fall to dust again, all that really matters is the moment in time that they are now and the fragments of art they will become.
I guess while I'm still alive and creating I hope that people link back and attribute my contributions, but when I'm gone and forgotten, I hope that some things I created will continue to do the rounds. So I'll hold to the idea its better to ask forgiveness than permission, but also think about each situation.
Some of you may remember the old window on my site, I actually found the artist who created that and I considered asking their permission, but after looking at their bio and stuff I decided they would prob not be happy to have their work used that way, so I changed the window. Maybe that was necessary, maybe not, but there is always a degree of judgment needed for individual cases.
Ozwomp's Voyage will soon be (IS) on iPhone and iPad!
After some very successful early tests and some optimization I have found that Ozwomp's Voyage runs great on iOS devices and it feels more natural on mobile than it did on desktop, so I'm super excited for this! Its making me rethink how I'm going to do projects like this in the future; mainly that 3D worlds can be hard for people to run if they don't have a strong computer, but SO MANY people have iPhones, its a really good way to get stuff to people in a way that's accessible to them.
All features of the desktop version should be available, I'm hoping to allow it to work in both portrait and landscape orientation (although that makes the UI really annoying! AND yes I'm still planning to add a multiplayer system (Although that might get spun off into another project I'm still thinking about how well it fits here)
SO I assume you mean forms and not forums? (Quite different things!)
The easiest option is just to have people email their submissions to you, that does not require any external service. You could also make a discord, or a thread on this forum and ask people to post submissions there.
If you're interested in learning Node.js or another scripting language, this is a SUPER easy and great project to get started with and you could host it on a tilde server or other free/low cost server.
If you're really just looking for a google forms alternative, Im less of an expert on that, I'm sure someone will comment with more specific recommendations, but there are a few options I can see here: https://alternativeto.net/software/google-forms/?license=free (Microsoft Forms & SurveyJS might be the closest) maybe you'll spot one that suits you!
Edit: After searching around for another ten seconds, I managed to find https://matrix.t:ha: as a means of creating browser-accessible URLs which point to a user's Matrix ID. Using this, it's possible to simply append a user's Matrix ID to the end of the URL in the format of https://matrix.t:ha:#/@username:server.com in order to turn a user's Matrix ID into one, easily clickable URL that works for most clients.
Ok I added a field for this, lemmy know if it works for you!
Sure, can you give me an example of what a Matrix profile link looks like? (Iv never used it :omg:smile:
A Matrix user ID is formatted in the following way: @username:server.com
Hmm, so it could be like @melonking:matrix.melonking.net ? I'll have to have a think a bout that as that's way too long for the profile bar on this site to handle. If there's a way to turn that into a clickable url that just opens a matrix client that would be doable?
i think we should have an option to change the width of the site, i dont really know how to explain it, but pokefarm q has this feature. you can basically select a width for the main content and forum. i have a large monitor so reading through forum posts is kind of difficult when each line is SO long.
Not to be too cheeky, but you do know this is the reason you can resize your browser? :omg:k: But yes I can see how things being too wide could be a pain. I added a max width to both cinni and melon themes, it should limit the forum on very wide displays, let me know if that helps!
also i think the profile editor should have the little buttons at the top to insert bbcode, for those (myself) who dont know every bbcode tag
This is a good idea and I might return to this later, however its a little complex to actually do. As a quick fix I have added a "BBCode Help" link at the bottom of every page, if your ever stuck again just scroll down for it!
I think possibly people forget this forum is for those interested in making 2D/3D virtual worlds (and websites or other indie projects by proxy) :omg:k:
2022 is the best year in history for someone interested in making 3d worlds, and 2023 will be even better, the technology we have to work with now is AMAZING compared to what existed in the past. HOWEVER, many people in this community do see the issues you point out in the modern web and like to study and think about the past as a way of figuring out how to make a better future (or just because its fun).
As for feeling out of place; you are welcome as you are, you don't have to fit in to belong here (Most people don't fit in anywhere), you bring yourself and what you're into and that's enough and that's all anyone can ask Although on the point of mixtapes; a youtube video with a selection of songs is a mixtape, so chances are you have used one of those
To answer nights question on what happens if someone wants to leave the club: This is a good question, I added a section to answer it, but in short, there are no strings, you can leave at any time.
ALSO unrelated but worth mentioning, I wont be joining with my site (at the start anyway) as that might be a conflict of interest (It would look a bit silly if my site was selected first ) but I will be donating to each draw!
you should be able to revisit custom_upload.php and manually enter the same album title and artist name and include the art and a duplicate of any track. (duplicates just replace what exists, and album art is always the most recently uploaded image file that gets glob()'d ) if that doesnt work i can manually fix it
Hmm, I tried uploading it a few times, I tried different file names and file types (jpg and png) it still says no artwork each time :'( Ill attach the image I'm using, maybe you can figure out whats wrong with it!
Update: Thanks for the interest and submissions, however it seems like we dont have enough people interested in the Ko-fi Club right now for it to make sense, so Im putting this idea on hold. If you still wanna join, post below anyway and if enough people do we can think about starting this up again!
Hello! This is an idea Iv been thinking up for a little while and figured I'd post it here to see how people react!
The Ko-fi Club is an honor-system crowd fund for small sites and indie projects. The idea is simple; at the start of each month a random club member is selected; everyone in the club is encouraged to make a donation to that member; then the next month someone else who has not been selected before will be picked until everyone has been selected once; then it starts over.
In short, you promise to make a donation to one site a month, and in return you will also be selected to receive donations later on too!
Now, I know this wont cover anyones site costs full time or fund a project, but its nice to receive donations; this is about encouraging peoples work and also encouraging people to more actively donate to indie projects. I think one of the hardest parts of spending time on a hobby or small project is that it can often feel trivial or not serious, receiving a donation is a good way to make people feel valued and their work seem real
General rules to join the club:
You must have a small indie project that is not your primary income source
You promise to make a donation of $1 or more to the selected site each month (Remember that's only $12 a year, you can manage that!)
You can only join the club once!
You must provide a Ko-fi donation link or a Paypal donate link
Even if you don't want to join the club to receive donations I would still encourage you to follow along and donate, this is about supporting indie projects! Post below if you plan to make donations
How to join: Post below! Link your site or project link: Link your donation page: (Ill send you a pm to confirm that you've been added to the members list)
How to leave: Just send me a pm at any time and I'll scratch your name from the list. However if you have been selected for donations before, please consider continuing to donate to support the people who supported you!
Further comments? If you have alternative thoughts or suggestions please say so below, this is a new idea, so its open to alterations and debates, if any changes are made I will make sure everyone who has joined knows about it before the first site draw.
