I used to be into Linux gaming back when I had Ubuntu on my laptop. I relied heavily on Humble Bundle because back then the games were all guaranteed to work natively on Linux. I played a lot of Cave Story, World of Goo and Revenge of the Titans, but Machinarium was definitely my favourite.
I'd love to use Ubuntu again, but every device I tried to install it on after that laptop had major driver issues and now all my devices are Surface branded so I don't expect to have any better luck.
I always thought Gimme Gimme by Beseech was a GREAT doom metal cover of Abba!
That's amazing. I actually have a strong dislike of Abba because I worked at a major book store when Mamma Mia came out, and they played the soundtrack constantly. Then when I got home my roommate at the time had bought the soundtrack and listened to it constantly.
But I've been listening to the original version of this song a lot because of the Noble Knight Embraces video.
The latest movie I watched was Venom: Let There Be Carnage. I was one of the people who actually enjoyed the first Venom movie, even though it was admittedly really flawed. The scenes felt like they were pieced together from six different versions of the script.
But Let There Be Carnage is really good. Still not perfect, but it takes what worked with the first movie and does a lot more of it. It shows Sony can make a good Spider-Man spinoff movie when the right people are involved. I'm still not looking forward to the Kraven movie, though.
A couple of days ago, I saw The Fifth Element, and I'll have to agree that comic book movies are a LOT better when they're embracing their roots! While not based on any comic book, it is very strongly influenced by the Franco-Belgian comic books of yore, and it holds a unique style that admittedly, does scream "90s vision of the future", but still looks great to this day! Admittedly, the plot's the typical "save the universe from destruction" thing, but there's a surprisingly compelling world and memorable characters in the film. (And who can forget the opera fight scene?)
The Fifth Element is one of my all-time favourite movies so I was really looking forward to Luc Besson's follow-up, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The trailers looked great and it was poised to be the spiritual successor to The Fifth Element, but it fell flat in every way. I was so disappointed I could have cried.
One I've had repeatedly recently is that my high school diploma isn't valid because I missed a credit somewhere so I end up having to go back to high school as a freaking 30-something, lmao. I hate it so much!
I've had dreams similar to that. They're the worst!
I had a funny one last night. I was in elementary school and it was winter, and we were all participating in the "Emma Stone Downhill Wheelchair-Toboggan Race."
I think it's all the things that I have to learn that's overwhelming. A lot of people, like you, make this website things seem so easy!! My goal is mainly to learn HTML, I wish I had the same thinking style as you, I'm always a perfectionist
If learning HTML is your main goal rather than just getting a site off the ground quickly, here are some of the resources I still use today.
W3Schools - Just a great resource all around, with lots of lessons and reference guides.
Code Academy - Their video lessons are great and easy to follow. A lot of them, especially at an introductory level, are totally free. There will be quizzes throughout to help you practice what you just learned.
Welcome! You seem to have quite a lot of background. I too would like to be able to see your old sites if I could!
Thanks! I used to have a portfolio site, but I only used it when I was looking for work. Since I've been gainfully employed for a while I let the domain expire. I'll have to go through my old backup drive and grab the screenshots to post here sometime.
I love these kinds of topics because they give me a lot of new things to listen to. I had never heard the original version of "Emergency" (only Icona Pop song I knew before was "I Love It", but now it's on my regular rotation.

I think I discovered both of them in TheRatNest which was a super whack mixtape/podcast that TheFatRat used to make before he got famous and boring.. Im not sure if it's still on the web he deleted them all a few years ago
There used to be a mashup artist on Soundcloud called Kosher Kittens who deleted all of their music and disappeared, probably because of copyright claims. I'm glad I downloaded my favourites because their songs are almost impossible to find online anymore. This is the only one I could find and it's over top of a Call of Duty video, but it's one of the best ones.
I added mashups to the title because there are a ton that I like and love finding more.
Just wanna clarify that I love Kate Bush and everything she embodies, but....
This is a really cool version. The darker tone would almost make it fit better in Stranger Things.
It reminds me of the Bad Wolves cover of "Zombie". I don't think it's better than the original by Cranberries, but it's still pretty good. Apparently they had planned to record it with Dolores O'Riordan (the original singer), but she tragically died just hours before.
is there any way to add a "like system" for posts?
So thats actually what I wanted when I added the karma system, but I could not find a better way to do it I will keep looking for a way to do this!
I was on a forum a long time ago that integrated a karma system into an RPG system, so you would gain EXP to level up each time a post is liked, and you would gain more EXP if someone of a higher level liked your post than a lower level.
There was also a gold mechanic. I can't remember how you would acquire gold, but you would use it to buy armor and weapons from the shop section and you'd need at a certain level to equip it. It was all just cosmetic, but I thought it was cool.
Relying on Google ad-sense may not be your best bet. You could look into other ad networks, or even selling your own ads privately; but a better option, in my opinion, is to look into publishing your stories in a magazine instead. A lot will pay you for first-publishing rights.
I have never looked into doing this for horror stories, but I quickly googled "horror short story magazine" and got quite a few results, including this list on Medium.
Getting accepted can be difficult though. I submitted a few times to sci fi and poetry magazines like Neo-opsis and Arc and was always rejected. Just remember that doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of your writing and not to be disparaged. You could be rejected for any number of reasons, like how much space they have available in the upcoming issue, the editor's personal taste, or maybe they prioritize known authors.
To address that last possible reason for rejection, you could try publishing somewhere for free at first. There are sites like Creepypasta or you could find a horror-themed wiki. Or, if you're a college/university student, it's very likely the English department has its own student magazine. Although I agree the concept of working for "exposure" suuuuuuucks, getting your name out there as an author can be an important first step.
There are a lot of hurdles, but if you're looking to make money from your writing I think it's better than the ad-based approach.
Oh, and if you do publish your stories anywhere, definitely let me know. I'd love to read them.
Newgrounds is probably your best bet. You won't need Flash to play any of the newer games since they migrated to HTML5.
Or, if you want to go more retro, you can try Utopia. My friends and I used to play it in high school in the early '00s. It's a multiplayer kingdom management game that's mostly graphicless.
EDIT: I totally forgot about Quake Live! It's a revival of Quake 3 Arena playable in your browser (or on Steam if you prefer). I played a lot of instagib and freeze tag back in the day.
I recently finished Majora's Mask (emulated N64 version), and I really loved it! I remember hating N64 graphics as a kid and thinking "who would think this actually looks good or immersive:dunno:" but I've grown to love the low-poly style these days
Majora's Mask is the one Zelda game I have tried that I haven't been able to finish. I always get lost and can't figure out what to do next. I need to look up a guide one of these days, because I love the darker style.
I prefer the 3DS version because the graphics have been enhanced quite a bit. I like low-poly games as well, but moreso the PS1 style than the N64 style. While technically superior, the N64's texture blending makes everything look very muddy whereas the PS1's textures are blockier but look really sharp. I think that's the style that holds up more today, since you can see it being replicated in retro-style games like Dusk.

I bought couple of games from the Steam Summer Sale and been playing Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines now, gotta love that early 2000s goth club aesthetic it has.
I love Bloodlines. I'm still waiting on the sequel but it keeps getting delayed.
To add to Melon's list of suggestions, I used to use Blogger. It was bought by Google, so you may not like it for that reason, but it has a lot of design options. You can use pre-made themes, and as you feel more comfortable with your code skills you can start to customize the HTML and CSS. You don't even need to use it as a blog, because you can create static pages as well.
Haha, you're welcome. AMVs are what got me into video editing, which was a huge mistake because I'm the only person at work who can do vide:ha:animation and I hate it! Any time they need a marketing video, they'll come to me but my skills are just barely serviceable and the tedium of editing the timing of the audi:ha:video tracks is what hell will be like for me.
A bit tangential, and hopefully this isn't off topic enough to be transgressional, but those same video editing skills also lead to me creating this, which apparently made it to the front page of Reddit at one point. I didn't even know my friends had seen it and they didn't know I created it.
