I'm nonbinary and I think "male", "female", "other" and "no answer" is okay honestly. The vast majority of people will be binary anyway, let alone cis, and for statistical purposes that's more than O.K. :4u:

Edit: holy crap, my 400th post!

Wish you the best, but be careful with the medicine trap out there.
I've seen people fail and destroy themselves completly with the drugs, they so desperately took to make their body change.

Hormone replacement therapy really is not anywhere close to that.

This is a picture of my office room at work, taken with my Nokia 6500 slide phone and edited to have a "cool frame, text and flowers". x)

I guess you'd be suspended and/or child protective services called on you.

I didn't know the Yesterweb community was toxic per sé. What do you mean by "easily offended"?
On the webring side, there's plenty of them. We actually have a collection on this very forum.

As always I am participating in some fanfiction contest that's happening weekly, and I am writing my entry for it. This time the theme is "apology" and I will see what to do with it. :4u:

I actually wrote a blog article about this exact topic; about the weird relation I have to games and what I actually do in games being different to what everyone else seems to be enjoying about them. In short, I always was attracted to a specific kind of activity structure where you could immerse yourself in a world, customize some things and then let the game simulate your creation interacting with other things in a sandbox-like fashion. Like how Spore was one of my favorites, but I never cared about its moment-to-moment gameplay much, just the idea of finding my own meticulously worldbuilt creations pop up across the galaxy.

♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: Unity games
« on: January 29, 2023, 07:23:40 pm »
It can have a variety of reasons, honestly.

First of all, Unity being free and there being plenty of easily accessible tutorials makes the engine extremely popular among low skilled or inexperienced developers, who often also follow the same few basic step-by-steps to implement common systems like movement, collision or lighting. That leads to a lot of "samey" feeling, low quality games where you can see the "Unity" stamp from afar. However, it's not really a matter of Unity's fault; it's what comes with having a very popular beginner engine.

People also over- and misestimate the amount of influence an engine has on the finished product. Sure, some technical aspects are going to be stronger or weaker in this or that engine, like in-built lighting capabilities, culling or support of large models, and some engines have pre-built templates for common systems like movement or collision, which means the same kinds of bugs appear in games that use the same engine, but people underestimate how much a skilled developer can bend any engine to look and behave like they want to.

I actually posted a salad recipe a few days back:

Maybe something like:

I like that very much! I'm a fan of that.

Do you think there will be many people who make their own games? Games are art too. So I'd combine these two as "Share Your Art / Games" in one category.

I think part of the base concept of this community in the first place was "building virtual worlds", so I suppose it's an understandable thing to promote.

This screenshot showcases my two browser I use regularly; LibreWolf for a classic web experience, and Kristall for when I want to turn it down a bit and browse (X)HTML-only, plain, self-stylable, information-first websites. Here's my website displayed on both.

☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: How do you handle criticism?
« on: January 27, 2023, 01:26:01 am »
Sometimes I can take criticism well, but usually it hurts me beyond belief even if it is constructive and helpful and all. I can't handle rejection and I certainly can't handle someone telling me that I'm not literally perfect.

Honestly, I think the biggest thing is getting into the mood. Reminding myself that I actually like the thing I am studying. Making myself a coffee and preparing a clean and well lit work environment. Focusing on the "academia aesthetic" and how proud I'd be of myself for being a "scientist". Those mostly get me in the mood.

If not, I just promise myself to work on one thing for a few minutes only. Usually starting is the hardest part and continuing comes naturally.

It sounds like hippie "mindset" garbage, but it's true for me at least.
