Mine came from one of those "what's your ____ name" meme templates. I thought it sounded fun, so I started using it most places.

Ha! I love those things; simple, dumb, fun.

I chose mine because I got most of my games on sale and I'm always on the hunt for a bargain. :ha: You probably could have guessed!

I love cooking! One of the most satisfying experiences I think you can have is when you have a craving for something specific, so you try to make it yourself, and it turns out exactly the way you wanted it to. We all have to eat, so you might as well be good at it.

Believe it or not, I started learning to cook with boxed rice mixes. I made that over and over until I felt confident with it, then I started wanting to make plain rice and season it myself. I then moved to a Betty Crocker cookbook (easily found at garage sales and thrift stores) and the Joy of Cooking. The second one you usually will have to go out and buy, but it has recipes for everything, and the intro chapters explain everything you need to know about cooking basics. In my opinion it's one of the best cookbooks ever, definitely recommended!

One of my favorite things to cook these days is a Terriyaki Chicken and/or Beef recipe I came up with myself. I make it at least once a week, and my family loves it.

Oh I'm totally going to put all these in a cozy playlist!

This one was done in the early 90's or so, but I think it fits the vibe well:

Whenever I try out new art programs or tools, one of my favorite things to draw is a still life of apples. For some reason, the multi-colored varieties offer a good mix of colors that I can play around with to get the feel for new tools.

i do! hey arnold: although there is a small community online i feel like it's a black sheep fandom, lmao.
i listen to a lot of music artists that most people won't recognize, like boy scouts, samia, arlo parks, and more (i'm so indiepilled and underground /s)
a lot of stuff i used to find myself alone in liking has grown over the years like milo murphy's law and eizuoken. however most stuff i like have communites (big or small) or are at least recognizable to others which is good!

I love Hey Arnold! I don't "maintain" my fandom for it, so to speak, but I have been toying with the idea of going back and watching it, because apparently it still holds up. I still think of the box car racing episode every time someone says the word "mauve."

And speaking of old Nickelodeon cartoons, mine would probably be The Angry Beavers. It's also kind of a black sheep fandom, and was a very stupid show, but it still makes me laugh and I love it. I used to run a fan listing for it back in the day.

I've been looking into it for a while now, not as an alternative to Twitter, but just because I like the idea of decentralization and I'd like to be part of it. I finally decided to jump in when I found an interesting looking instance, so I'll probably give you all a follow :ha:

I don't have much up yet, but I'm here: https://snug.moe/@FrugalGamer

OH I'M SO EXCITED! I've already got the badge on my site, and now I have so many more sites to go visit! Thank you for putting this together! :unite: :cheerR: :cheerR: :cheerR: :transport:

BTW I love the styles you've used for the list page. Pulling the backgrounds from the sites was a good idea--it's simple but it personalizes the listings for each site in a great way.

Hypercard was a cool little program on the Apple II computers that let you build small multimedia programs using "cards." It was one of the precursors of the internet, and, fun fact, was invented after the developer went on an acid trip:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HyperCard

I was too young at the time to appreciate it, but I learned about the system as an adult, and I've always been in love with the black and white way it looks and the awesome impact it has had on the computer world.

Recently a user named Internet Janitor over at Itch.io has created a spiritual successor that can run in any browser and is much easier to use. It's called Decker, and I'm now officially obsessed with it:

https://internet-janitor.itch.i:ha:decker

Everything you make in this little program can be saved as an .html file and uploaded to your site--it's all done with javascript, so I think they'd even work with Neocities, though I haven't tried.

If anyone ends up making anything with this spiffy tool, I'd love to see what you come up with! I'm having a blast playing with it, and they're even hosting a ":grin:eckerjam" for the month of December in the Itch.io forums. Let me know if any of you decides to join!

I've been toying with the idea of adding some pixelated "tinsel" around my headers and stuff, but I also kind of like the snowflakes idea. I wonder if I could do an animated snowflake background?

I've been really enjoying different online programs, since I'm not usually offline. My favorite is www.photopea.com, but there's also fun stuff like https://jspaint.app/ and https://www.piskelapp.com/. On my main desktop I also have Rebelle, which usually goes on sale via Humble Bundle every now and then, and ArtRage on Android. They're both "paint simulators," so they serve a different need, but I do love both of them.

I'd actually considered bringing this idea up myself, so you know I'm all for it!

Welp, this went an unlocked some memories for me. I'm not sure if this counts as a console? It's more of a handheld game, but I used to have this thing called the "Quiz Whiz," made by Tiger Electronics:

It came with a little quiz booklet, and in order to play, you would first type in the number of the question you wanted to answer using the number buttons, and then you would chose your answer using the letter buttons on the right. Then you'd press "Enter" and a nice little game-show voice would shout "Right!," "Correct!" or "Wrong!" I remember having a lot of fun using it for its intended purpose. My brother, however, had a ton of fun using it for the wrong purposes. He would grab the Quiz Whiz, type in a random number, then ask loudly, "IS FRUGAL GAMER STUPID:dunno:" and hit a random letter. When the announcer would answer in the affirmative he'd double over with laughter, otherwise he'd just spam it until he got the answer he wanted. Repeat ad nauseum with similar questions: ":grin:OES SHE SMELL BAD?? IS SHE UGLY:dunno: ARE YOU SURE....?"

I also had a handheld game called Lights Out that I LOVED and still remember fondly:

You've probably played a version of this in videogames, because it's often used as a minigame puzzle. It's actually an old math game called Sigma+ and it's based on pattern recognition. I loved it so much that I got the deluxe version when it came out too:

This one was way better than the first in just about every way. It had a larger playing board, included multiplayer, and had other modes that would let you play with an inverted board and also change the pattern it used for turning the lights out.

Nowadays this sort of thing would just be an app on your phone, but those just don't have the same charm.

Oh man, there are so many. Here's one I always recommend when the subject comes up, though: if you're into jazz/funk, the de Blob soundtracks are just the best:

On mine, I broke it up into a short paragraph and then added some simple lists of things I like. They're fun to look through but are easy to skim over if you're not interested in that sort of thing.

https://www.thefrugalgamer.net/aboutMe.php

I've seen people also add some of their favorite web badges or buttons describing things they identify with, like here:

https://cyberneticdryad.neocities.org/about.html

Some folks also add their favorite avatars and other pictures. Here's a website that I particularly love. It's in a frame, but you can click "About" in the sidebar to see what I mean:

https://antikrist.neocities.org/

Some folks also style their about info kind of like an RPG menu, like over here in Libre Town:

https://libre.town/residential/webmaster.xhtml

Hope that helps with ideas! A good number of these pages are part of webrings, and you can click through to see new sites and check out their About pages as well. Have fun with your page!
