♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: Is anyone else tired of open world games?« on: July 31, 2022, 11:06:09 pm »I don’t feel as strongly about it as you, but I do largely agree. These days I tend to prioritise gaming less, so I definitely prefer a shorter but expertly crafted experience over an open world game that’s been padded out with copy/paste content and fetch quests. The main recent offender that springs to mind is FFXV. The FF series has always had the world map, but it felt like this time they really tried to go too big without enough content to really justify it. And now SqEnix seem to be going all-in on NFT stuff, so… not thrilled. I just want a game that respects my time. 49
♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: What are you playing (or have finished)?« on: July 31, 2022, 09:55:22 am »Chrono Trigger is great! I’m playing the iOS version on my phone at the moment. I used to play the SNES one, but I never managed to get more than about 1/3 of the way through. Now I’m a little more than 1/3. There’s no stopping me now. 50
☆ ∙ Showcase & Links / Re: New professional site! (Loom.Cafe)« on: July 31, 2022, 09:53:23 am »That’s really cool! You’ve made me want to go play with masking techniques, now. Hmmm! Also, I know what you mean about mixing professional stuff into web revival, but it also feels like a double edged sword. “The professional web sucks, none of the websites have any sense of aesthetic style.” “Okay, can I use this artistic style for my professional site?” “absolutely not.” I think the key is always just to do it with sincerity. 51

☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: Name one small change that would ruin the retro web for you« on: July 28, 2022, 09:31:37 am »Every day, you get an email about how many more views your friends’ sites are getting than yours. 55
☺︎ ∙ Chat & General Interests / Re: What do you think of physical mail?« on: July 26, 2022, 09:06:32 pm »If anyone wants to be penpals, I’d be up for it. Happy to send letters from Europe to anywhere! If you want to receive mail from a stranger, I guess DM or email (email address is on the footer of my site) me an address at which you’re comfortable receiving mail from a stranger and whatever name you want written on it. Otherwise I’ll just use your forum username, which is fine by me but you might get weird looks from the people you live with. ![]() I have bad memories of being forced to write bland thank you letters where I would have preferred to thank someone in person or over the phone I’m sorry to hear that! Even the best things tend to lose their lustre when you’re being forced to do it. 56
❤︎ ∙ Greetings and Introductions / Re: Dag!« on: July 26, 2022, 05:34:52 pm »Hey, welcome! Physics is wild. I'm a chunk of the way through listening to Surely You're Joking, Mr Feynman and having a lovely time with it, but it only provides the smallest glimpse of how smart physicists are. Probably invented astrophysics just to study your own galaxy brains. 57
☺︎ ∙ Chat & General Interests / What do you think of physical mail?« on: July 26, 2022, 12:49:41 pm »I always enjoy sending & receiving physical mail. I like it when people send me nice messages online, obviously, but there's also something special about getting an actual piece of paper or postcard in the mail. Any snail mail fans here? 58
☺︎ ∙ Chat & General Interests / Re: Things that bring meaning to your life?« on: July 25, 2022, 09:42:14 pm »Everything on this list! Walking and seeing places - I cant think of a time Iv ever been unhappy on a hike! What's the best place you've ever hiked? There are some lovely places near(ish) me. I think Cannock Chase is the most well known, but it's still pretty close to civilisation. ![]() 59

I might have to update it to include my hardware now. Thank you! I (someone who also uses Arch on occasion) was admiring your page the other day. I admire the strength of your conviction in software choices! 60
✁ ∙ Web Crafting / Re: What do you use to code websites?« on: July 24, 2022, 07:33:55 pm »I was a long time Sublime Text user, but eventually moved to VSCode to be consistent with the rest of my team at work. Both are such good bits of software. I can’t remember the last time I’ve used a colour scheme other than Monokai. Who here has a /uses page? I love snooping around other people’s setups. The blog Uses This is great for that. |
