Hey Will! Welcome to the forum. People are pretty nice here.

Interests: Anything with six or more legs or two or more solar masses.

Somewhere out there, I bet there’s something with both.

RAWR
which stands for Retro-aesthetic Web Revival. :4u:

Well done, you’ve caused me actual physical pain.

I love it.

Hey!

If you're gonna join a web ring, please don't remove the web ring links from your site without getting yourself removed from the list!

It's a drag to realise that both of your immediate neighbours have basically cut you off from the rest of the ring.

Shiraishi Kouji's Occult. I really love Noroi by the same director, and as such, I've been intending to watch Occult for a while.

Oh, sweet. Noroi has been on my list for a while, so both of these have just moved up a few spaces.

Hey! Welcome.

What's your favourite recent Wikipedia rabbit hole?

Nice work.

I watched Escape from New York for the first time, and I hate to be that guy but Escape from L.A. is way better. The story is cheesy and the special effects are terrible, but at least it isn't boring like N.Y.

I loved both movies, but Escape from L.A. really was special. Snake is such a cool dude. The leather coat, the eye-patch, the voice. What's not to like?

Over the past couple days, I watched:

- Bohemian Rhapsody. It was pretty good. Sounds like they really played it fast and loose with the facts, though.
- '71. A story about a British soldier getting stranded on his own in Northern Ireland overnight during The Troubles. I'm currently in the middle of reading Say Nothing, which is a non-fiction book set in the same place at around the same time, so that probably coloured my perception of the film.
- Spiderhead. A thriller set in a prison where volunteers get to live in (comparative) luxury and ease in exchange for being subjected to mood control drug experiments. It wasn't exactly spectacular, but I thought it was a good watch, and worth more than the brutal 39% Rotten Tomatoes score.
- The Others. Family lives in a spooky old house in the middle of nowhere. What could go wrong?

... I watch too much TV.

I'm afraid these aren't quite about making websites, but they are really good, so perhaps you'll forgive me? Some of my favourites from the archive, in no particular order:

1. ZZZZ Best
2. The Flight Simulator 2020 obelisk
3. The 500 mile email
4. Magic/more magic
5. The final moments of MMOs

I’d say it’s a stunning rendering of a capybara taking an orange bath!

Ouran and Sailor moon were the first ever animes I ever watched! I've seen nana on aesthetic Instagram pages but never watched the anime, the art style is eye candy and I love it! I might watch it when I get the time!

Oh, cool! It's definitely worth checking out. I've never seen Sailor Moon, but everyone seems to love it.

Revolutionary Girl Utena

YES.

Really interesting thoughts from both of you.

They're small things, but they surprisingly brought back some sense of individual historicity that I had utterly lost.

I've never really put a lot of thought into the historicity angle. I think you're right that these rituals help with a sense of time and place, rather than just being in a sort of endless now. Am I understanding that right?

(P.S. I also used to use Arch.)

it will never be exactly the way it was, with how technology and internet has changed so much.

Probably not, but I think with deliberation we can take the best bits of everything and move forward with them. Gotta move forward as well as moving back.

« on: July 14, 2022, 09:35:55 am »
I´m trying to finish Child of Light. Basically a fairy tale type of RPG. So far I got into the plains area and fought my first two bosses.

CoL is so good! The soundtrack by Cœur de pirate especially. I started listening to her non-VG music after getting sucked in by Child of Light.

I just finished playing Fran Bow a few days ago and honestly, I really enjoyed it! I think some of the dialogue was a little too simple and I HATE it went there's dialogue options that don't really matter, but it nailed the dark fantasy vibe I've been missing from movies like Return to Oz or Pan's Labyrinth. Best of all, you can interpret the story in a number of ways :cheesy:

If you liked Fran Bow, be sure to check out Little Misfortune.

I finally bit the bullet and bought Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which has been a lot of fun so far. Playing on the easiest difficulty because I'm bad at strategy games, but that's okay!

Probably using an actual map, or MapQuest. Or any of the many GPSes that were around before Google Maps was.

Massively overestimating my capacity for forward planning. That does highlight an area where smart phones are super useful in a way that's tough to replicate with traditional/single-purpose tech: stuff you didn't realise was going to be useful until it's too late.
