i played NieR / NieR Automata recently and !! do not get the hype :< also it felt insanely sexist from the character designs to the writing it was just. not a great time

The appeal is that it's a Souls-like with bullet hell mechanics, plus a super intriguing story and aesthetic. Fans of the genre will get a lot of mileage out of the game.

I LOOOOOOVE ds1 and Bloodborne but NieR felt super simple in comparison. . even to other platinum games like metal gear rising it felt super shallow in combat . the aesthetics are really really cool and I love the music and b/w colour scheme tho ! the story also didn't suuuper blow me away like it did to most of the fanbase

Ghost Trick is something I played recently but is now one of my favorite games but seems to be relatively unknown. It takes advantage of the DS mechanics really well, most of the puzzles felt good to solve, there's great characters, and the story is solid. It was made by the same creators of Ace Attorney but in my opinion is much better. After I finished I immediately went back to check out all the details I missed, the foreshadowing and how the mystery comes together is really incredible.

GHOST TRICK IS SO GOOD !! the game mechanics and the story are literally woven together so perfectly but the story by itself is already so good even if it was just in visual novel format!!!!! (also is swiftpaw a WC ref)

Just me and my thoughts

I was introduced to the concept of "solitude deprivation" by Cal Newport, whose writing I enjoy. The theory is that even if you manage to sidestep the traps of endless social media scrolling and spend your time deliberately, a lot of us aren't spending enough time with just our own thoughts.

I don't know how solid the science behind that idea is, but it, uh... feels true?

i feel the same way!!! i recently had a trip that was mind-opening and like . i really think you need to spend time frequently doing nothing in your room just thinking about things to get a clear head. staring at the ceiling and noticing the patterns in the wall and coming to terms with the recent goings-on

as for "going online" i dont really value irl life or url life more than the other, i just try to make sure theres a balance of both. i normally just put my phone on do-not-disturb whenever i want to leave url life and go for a walk or something (i may need maps later xD)

but i do sometimes miss when i would wait for a loooong time for my awful pc to connect to the internet and load things

« on: September 07, 2022, 06:20:57 am »
that was such a fun discussion to read through!!!

i think melons non-dualistic philosophy lines up very well with zen buddhism, and that's more or less how i like to see both the world and the web !!

as for useless sites ! well I don't think they exist ?
it's kind of pedantic but everyone chooses to make a site for a reason ! it matters to them and it has use to them !
the web is a collective space, but each individual's site is born from their own wishes and serves it's purpose first and foremost to them :loved:

(I guess even a bot generated site is useful.... for the companies harvesting clicks -_- )

⛺︎ ∙ Cinema / Re: Why do you watch YouTube?
« on: September 06, 2022, 08:49:53 pm »

i almost exclusively watch youtube for long-form analysis videos !
theyre good to have in the background while doing chores or grinding in games.
there are a couple youtubers who put in enough effort to be visually entertaining that ill watch their videos as the main form of entertainment
(usually its just a supplementary/background thing)
