I'm probably not only "new", I'm a very, what's it called, on-the-surface kind of a participant? My website hardly looks new and modern (both thanks to my lack of coding skills and my geniuine enjoyment of the messy aethetic), but I'm also perhaps not even half as educated on the subject as I should be to call myself part of the web-revival movement fully.

I feel the same way. I've experienced a bit from the Old Web (especially a defunct Dutch fansite for the Mario series is dear to my heart) but at this point in my life I've put more time into Web 2.0 sites like Twitter and Reddit. My site probably has some things in common with 'classic' Web 1.0 sites but it's never been about that for me. I just started working on it one day and by winging it I came close to something that fit my tastes. I think maybe because we're using tools that have completely been replaced on the mainstream Internet, it's easy to build something that's closer to Web 1.0 than modern sites? I don't know if that makes sense...

To get back to the main topic, I think we're definitely headed for a more post-modern take on the old web because the current indieweb culture is heavily influenced by people getting weary of and subsequently rejecting modern social media. A lot of sites I see pop up when browsing 'last updated' on Neocities contain some text along the lines of 'I'm here because I'm done with social media', and I can imagine that a lot of people will also be taking more modern Internet sensibilities with them. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, because now there's room to explore one's interests with much more freedom than Web 2.0 allows for.

Besides, culture is a constantly evolving thing. I think that if 'our' Web 2.0 never happened as it did, the current Internet would still be pretty different from Web 1.0. We can emulate the past if we want, but the fact is that we're in the future and we're looking back on what we enjoyed, which colours our perspective and subsequently affects the things we put out there. And that's fine!

Right now I'm using chrome, but I'm looking to step away from it soonish. I've tried Firefox for a bit but I really don't like the latest UI, so I'll either try to customize it or find another browser!

I'm all for new fonts! Aside from the most obvious addition (papyrus :ha:smile: I would like to see a pixelated font: I am partial to Pixel FJVerdana because I use it on my own site, but anything like it is cool with me. https://www.1001fonts.com/pix-pixelfjverdana12pt-font.html

I don't know about a site for MP3's in general, but I'll pitch in with the site I get my videogame music from: https://downloads.khinsider.com/

You can download songs individually, and if you want to download entire albums at once you either need to donate or send referral links.

☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: How do you find new web revival sites?
« on: January 02, 2023, 09:33:26 pm »
I often go to the Neocities list and sort by 'last updated' to find new/active sites, and then follow the cool ones I find. It works most of the time, but there's a few sites that seem to automatically update so I also get to see the same ones a lot... Aside from that I just follow links that lead to other links that lead to other links and so on!

Was coincidentally looking into them just as I stumbled onto this thread! I'm probably gonna join a few if my site fits them and if they're still active, I like the idea of connecting with others through shared interests. :unite:

I read something called PTSD Radio a few days ago: it's a collection of short scenes, some related to eachother but also a few that aren't. There's one story thread that keeps popping up but it's scattered throughout the volumes, so you have to pay attention to figure out what's going on. Might be up your alley?

Webcomics!

There's a bunch of webcomics I've enjoyed in the past few years, and I'm curious to see if people here have any recommendations. What have the people of the Melonland Forum been reading? Are you keeping up with any, or do you remember enjoying one a long while ago? I'll start:

Currently the one I keep up the most with, the art starts out pretty rough but quickly gets better. Gunnerkrigg Court has incredible worldbuilding and fun characters, so I definitely recommend this one!

Cool world, cooler art, coolest fights! Go read it!

Four kids play a game, that's really all there is to say on the matter. For real though, everyone on the internet should be at least vaguely familiar with Homestuck by now, and if you aren't: GO CHECK IT OUT (I've linked the Unofficial Homestuck Collection because at this point in time it's the superior way to read it since the official site has bugs all over. Plus it has extras!)

If anyone here has already read these, feel free to share your thoughts!

I could never be without an alias and six degrees of seperation between my offline and online life on the internet so I can definitely relate. Welcome!

Around 2017 I was really into Puyo Puyo and I played the character Sig the most. That's all folks!

On most sites I usually go by Sigmatic, which was basically just an evolution of me extending the name from Sig (too short) -> Sigma (too basic?) -> Sigmatic (yeah sure). There's more Sigmatics floating around on the web, but there's not One Sigmatic To Rule Them All yet so I have some time to plan my takeover

I feel like the Verified User™ is just projecting their own experiences onto other people and acting like it's an universal experience, which I don't think is uncommon twitter behavior lol

As for me, with a few exceptions, I do tend to value IRL friendships more than online: not out of principle but purely because I'm more likely to build a bond with people I socialize with in the Real World. If I only took this into consideration, then maybe I'd be "alright i guess 4 months makes sense why not". But at least I have the self-awareness to realize that this is how my relationships work, and that this can be wildly different for others. Online bonds can definitely matter, especially when there's few like-minded people around your local area!

Welcome! I am also an avid enjoyer of Team Defense Fort 2, but I've only got a copy for the Wii 3 :drat:
