Welp, couple of days till March 7... any updates on that special event?

I wish I had something like a planetarium calendar that'd have all the celestial bodies in their proper positions based on the current (or dialed in) time and place. You could also have something like a month-long "long exposure" that shows the paths of everything as lines, and put things like important events on the 'timeline' of the moon's path, or whatever object you wanted. You could pin events to specific transits and alignments by just looking at where lines intersect, stick a pin in it, and the date would automatically be calculated based on the position of the pin.

Check out the Planets Today - I'm not sure if it's quite optimal for what you're describing, but it's a handy resource for DIY astronomers as well as more woo-woo inclined astrology nerds like myself. Let me know if this is helpful!!

My s/o is a fan, but we ended up having a really bad time when they played the Toyota Center in H-Town - lady got a massive migraine from the sound and light setup, and we weren't the only ones in our section who had issues. None of their recordings signaled to me that this might be an issue going in - I think their production team geeked out at the opportunity to go overboard just because they could at a stadium. Oh well...

I've been waiting for this, so in newfoundland there is a tradition called a "Screech In" and it is basically a way that a person that isn't from newfoundland can become a proper local, basically you take a shot of Screech (40% liquor), reciting a short speech and then kissing a Cod, sometimes you also eat a piece of baloney after the shot. It is one of my favorites to tell people about and while not a festival, it is a longtime tradition that has made for many drunken laughs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfoundland_Screech
I was probably conceived in Newfoundland, this is great! Thanks for the fascinating share

Hitting the coffee and water this morning. I hate Keurig pods, but they're what's stocked at the office - drinking "Vanilla Biscotti" with two plain creamers plus one hazelnut.

« on: October 19, 2022, 06:57:12 am »
For the most part, the internet permeates my day-to-day routine such that the phrase "going online" is mostly meaningless - and this is despite being fully detoxed from social media since 2017! That said, I am just old enough to remember the sound of a dial-up modem (and can do an impression of the same with perfect pitch!), and beyond that, I had an interlude back into the old way of doing things earlier this year, as follows:

While I was creating my admittedly-underdeveloped homepage, "Realm of Janus", my wifi USB adapter stopped working abruptly, and I landed on tethering my phone's Wifi connection over USB as the stopgap connectivity fix until I got paid again. I am also accustomed to using a VPN connection to access my home network during work hours, which lead to the absurd scenario of 1) leaving my smartphone at home to serve as makeshift Wifi adapter, and 2) using a text-to-keyboard bridge app to maintain my ability to respond to my boss's text messages (his general preference over email), and finally 3) scrambling to reach my brother with an outgoing emergency call from my office's landline after someone called my smartphone, stationed at home in use as a wifi-adapter, provoking a fit of vibrations which jostled the USB cable loose, disrupting its ability to act as functional tether!!

So glad that episode came to an end with the arrival of a new, actual USB Wifi adapter... Sometimes modern tech is nice, after all...

Just checked out the site, got inspired by the blog post - I've never finished FF1, but I'm thinking of remedying that soon! As a matter of fact, I've played it on an actual NES cartridge but never got past grinding on Goblins, I'm thinking about going the ROM Hack remaster route when I dive back in.
