I'm thinking of making a section on my website in the style of/about demo discs and it has me thinking about them. This site is a good resource for PS1 demo discs. I'd love to see any others people can find!
I've always found demo discs interesting, it's like the vibe of a gaming magazine but playable. I have never had any physical ones (hoping to change that soon with the power of ebay) but I've played a lot of dumped versions online and I love them! The menus always interested me too, they remind me of dvd menus (another thing I love)
Two more quick things before I stop rambling, Itch.io has a great selection of games meant to emulate ps1 demo discs (usually in a horror style) and my favorite youtuber NakeyJakey has a great video about the Pizza Hut demo discs!
Anyway what do you all think? Did you ever have any? Do you know somewhere to buy them? I'd love to see them if you have any!!!
What's your favorite year or years in gaming? Personally I think mine's gotta be 1996. You had Super Mario 64, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Civ 2, Quake, Parappa The Rappa, Resident Evil and Tekken 2. It was an absolutely revolutionary year for 3D games and a lot of the games released in that year I still go back to even today!
So I am currently working on a visual novel that I've wanted to make since forever. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about VN engines? My first thought is RenPy but I'm open to other suggestions and would greatly appreciate learning resources! I'd love to let some people here be the first to see/play because this community is what inspired me to finally make it! Let me know if you want to help at all or would like to see it when it's ready!
I was looking at the web badges thread recently and realized that I don't have one, I spent so long trying to make one before realizing I'm not a great artist. Does anyone have any tips to get me started? Maybe somebody here does commissions? Maybe I'll be the first person to commission something so tiny
I'm making a gallery on my site and was wondering what would be a good way to display images? I was thinking an Iframe (if anyone has a resource to learn about those it would be appreciated) but I wanted to ask on here and see if there was a better/easier way? I just assumed Iframe because it would cut down on the length of the page and you wouldn't have to scroll all the way down to see the footer.
The old web to me feels so cozy and like a second home. Melonland specically to me feels like home.
Another site that makes me feel cozy and nostalgic is https://covid2009.neocities.org/home Somethign about the theme, music and low tech vibes make me feel so happy.
Do you guys have any places on the web that feel cozy or like a "home" on the web?
The recent thread about TV comercials has had me thinking about old TV bumpers, those weird clips that would play between shows and commercials or between programming changes.
One of my personal favorites has always been the early 2000s toonami bumpers. It was some of the earliest examples of Drum and Bass (the genre) being in mainstream media and heavily influenced my love for AMVs
My other favorites are the Adult Swim bumpers, speficically the ones that would play when switching to Adult Swim.
(apologies if this is the wrong place, I'm pretty sure this is the right board.) I've been putting off telling this to anyone because of peoples reactions, I figured this would be a good place to start because of how supportive this forum and community has been to me. I am transitioning, I want to start going by She/her and I've been slowly growing to accept that this is me. I hope this doesn't change anything with anyone and I wish you all well!
I recently watched a video essay about profile pictures and it got me thinking how interesting of a concept they are. It can tell people a lot and becomes part of peoples online image of you. Do you use different profile pictures for different sites? What made you choose a particular picture? Do you remember your first? I would love to know about peoples experience with the purely online concept
As the talks of MP3 players continue, I find myself wondering where I can still reliably download mp3s. I used to use SoulSeek on my computer but I have no way to download mp3s easily on my phone, any recommendations?
So, new year, old web. This website and all of the old web has been a huge part of what made this year special for me, thank you all for being such an amazing and supportive community. I hope everybody's 2023 goes amazing and we all have a few less HTML errors. -Silky
Hey everyone, I've been a bit down recently. My laptop got stolen and I got broken up with in the same week (writing this from my phone). I've just been wondering, how do you guys cheer yourselves up after a hard time? Much love from the smoothest of skulls
What is a good beginner software for 3D modelling? I love the late 90's to early 2000's style 3D art and I would love to try making it but everything within 3D modelling seems so complicated.
I'm writing a psychology paper right now and I can't stay focused, I find I'm this way when I try to write anything. Does anybody have any tips? Any good ways to stay motivated, on task and from procrastinating? Even writing this post is me just avoiding finishing my paper :omg:k:
