I'm in college right now, and it's going great. I still find that I have trouble focusing on things and getting things done, though.I already uninstalled a lot of distracting apps, I blocked distracting websites using LeechBlock... But I still really struggle to focus and turn stuff in on time.
Does anyone have any tips for how to focus in school? Or alternatively, does anyone have any cool educational links? I would really love to see them!
I'd also love to hear about your school experiences!
The following is copy and pasted from something similar that I have posted to Reddit, Tumblr, and Cohost. I'm really trying to spread the word about this and get as many people on board as possible!
As you're aware, there's a damn good MGS wiki out there. Things are sourced well, the articles are written professionally... Honestly, there's only one pretty obvious flaw -- It's hosted on Fandom, the place where usable user interfaces go to die. For a while now, I've been wanting to create an independent MGS wiki, but it's only taken until recently for me to actually start taking steps towards it.
Those into independent wikis are probably already aware of the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance or the Square Enix Independent Wiki Alliance, but I've recently had my attention called to the Gaming Wiki Network. GWN is a group of independently-hosted wikis about games that don't fit into NIWA or SEIWA, and I joined its Discord server as soon as I was made aware of it. I've been dying to get this started, and I thought that asking around there would help me think of what to do.
Recently, I joined the server for the Fandom wiki, in hopes of privately messaging the main admin. Instead, it seemed like the best person to contact was a Fandom representative -- There's a solid chance that we would have to act completely independently from the preexisting wiki.
I cannot stress enough how awful Fandom is, on a user level. Ads are shoved down your throat, and even if you have an adblocker, the autoplaying videos can get more than a little frustrating. The yellow navigational bar is just awful and clashes with the aesthetics of many wikis, they've been making very odd buyout decisions, you're under their corporate control, there's all sorts of irrelevant garbage that they shove down your throat...
I think that, if I can get enough people on board, then we can have a fully fledged and independent Metal Gear Solid wiki. When it comes to usable, high standard wikis, the best is yet to come.
Please let me know if you're interested in helping out in any way! Even spreading the word is good. You can message me here, or shoot me an email if you want to help out. Metal Gear Solid means the world to me, and I can't stand to see that the only wiki is hosted on Fandom.
I think that my very first art program was FireAlpaca...? I suppose there could have been things from my early childhood that I don't remember, but FireAlpaca was the first digital art program that I used once I started actually drawing. I still hold it in pretty high regard, even though the ads can get kinda annoying! :omg:k: I've since moved to Clip Studio Paint, and while I've tried other art programs, CSP is the one for me, I think.
The story behind my username is actually a bit interesting, I think!
I used to go by Webkinz38824 -- The "Webkinz" was because I liked Webkinz, and the 38824 was simply because that's what Club Penguin added at the end to make my penguin's name unique. (Side note: I did a lot of dumb shit under that username. Genuinely one of my biggest regrets :sad:smile:
At some point, I started playing Disney's other MMO, Toontown Online. A year after I started playing, it... Closed. Of course, I assume that a lot of people know about Toontown Rewritten by now, and when I signed up for the beta and it asked for my toon's name, I hit the "random" button until I settled on a combination that I liked.
Doctor Lollipop Dizzyspinner.
I usually shorten it to ":grin:omg:ctor Dizzyspinner", ":grin:omg:ctor Dizzy", or ":grin:omg:ctor Dizzyspin". ":grin:izzy" has become my predominant nickname on the Internet, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
Thank you so much for the recommendation! I will definitely check slugbug out when I can :3 I also really love your cassette shelf And your player definitely looks neat
Omg thats such a cute player I still have my kids cassettes around somewhere, I should inspect them.
Thank you so much! You should totally look at your old cassettes!! The collection that you currently have with you is super cool, of course! And your Walkman seems really neat
I have possibly the strangest mix; Rap and Country. My father was a huge rap fan when he was young so I got all his Bone-thugs, Tupac, Jazzy Jeff and Biggie. On the other hand I have a literal pile of Hank Williams, Alan Jackson, Willie Nelson and other country artists I don't care for. I also have a couple random ones like kids music and Christmas music. It's one of my favourite ways to collect music and I wanna see if I can get some cassettes custom made
Good luck getting custom made ones! That really does seem cool. Rap and Country are... Definitely an odd mix, but it's always cool to have variety!
I know that vinyls are making a bit of a comeback, but I'm wondering if anyone's rocking cassette tapes? :omg:k:
I've had a cassette player for basically as long as I can remember! It's not like... A professional one or anything (in fact, it's targeted at kids :omg:k:smile:, but I really like it!
This isn't my photo, but this is the model that I have. :omg:k:
As for cassette tapes... Most of mine just play kids songs lol. They're all from a songbook series called Wee Sing, and the tapes basically correlate to the songs in the books. I'm trying to get more use out of my player, though, so I'm trying to get more cassettes lol. Today, my Spirit Phone cassette arrived, and I'm super happy about it!
So... Do any of you have cassette players? What kinds of tapes do you have?
Hey, I had a LeapPad! I loved that when I was really young :omg:k:
Hmm... The only other similar thing that I can kinda remember that I owned was a little VTech computer! It had math minigames, I think? I can't remember which model it was (or if it was even VTech, but it seems like the most likely answer?) for the life of me, but I do remember the math minigames, at least...
I have such a strange fondness for this type of stuff!!! Touchscreens just don't hit the same way. :omg:k: Physical buttons on technology is such a great thing, and I'm kinda sad that weird tech like that is dead in favor of phones lol.
Thank you, everyone, for your great responses. It was really cool seeing what programs everyone used I think that I'll stick with CSP, even if their subscription service is a biiiiit... not great lol. :omg:k: I'll definitely try some other programs in the future, though, if only for variety :omg:k: Like, I still want to get used to Krita, for example!!
Honestly, their recent business decisions are the main reason why I want to move away I know that I can (and probably should) just ignore them, but I don't know... It just feels kinda gross, I guess, to continue using it?? Like, I'd rather use an application that doesn't pull that garbage :-P
Hi! I am thinking of moving away from Clip Studio Paint, and was wondering what other art programs there are that I could use :omg:k:
So... What programs to you use? Like... FireAlpaca, Krita, Photoshop, some mysterious fourth thing?? I'm interested in hearing about what you guys enjoy using
I didn't even know that grids were an option, thank you so much for telling me about them! I'm still pretty new to CSS and don't really know that many tricks or skills yet, so that's greatly appreciated. The links that you sent are also really helpful for learning how to use it! I'll definitely keep your advice in mind about the columns And yeah, looking at the source code on other websites is always something I should do anyway :omg:k: I think that'd really help with knowing my way around HTML/CSS lol
I will definitely try your counter when I can! I don't think that unpaid Neocities works with scripts...? I could be wrong, though, and I'm always willing to try things out to see if they work. Thank you for sharing your counter here!!
Oh yeah, and I'll definitely be adding the button to the top right :omg:k: I think that'd look pretty good! Thanks for the suggestion
And one last thank you for the compliments on my site. It's my first time making one, and I'm really happy that it looks good! I'll get to work on the landing page when I can, and maybe make a post about it when I'm done.
