Happy holidays everyone! I promised you guys that I will be releasing an update when I figured out how to make the navigation on the index page (which was easier said than done), so here are the updates:

  • Made the navigation for the index page in a circle.
  • Updated 404 page.

Both updates can be viewed with these links: icg.neocities.org, icg.neocities.org/404

Have a wonderful Christmas day!

This is something I need to check out. Thanks for giving this, now I know why that one page you had as a link won't work.

☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: Social Media is dangerous
« on: December 25, 2021, 01:37:08 am »
Back then, when I first made my Twitter account, I didn't even realize what I was actually doing, I just used it. It wasn't until I got "Cancelled" that I found out how terrible it really was to my health. My mood took a fall, I was feeling sorry for the things I did to others even if they forgot about it entirely, and started thinking negatively about life. I am fine now but we should definitely think more often about the damage to a person's mental health caused when contributing to internet drama than what they did wrong. Distancing from the problem can help, Staying near it and telling it to go away won't solve it.

✁ ∙ Web Crafting / Re: What inspired you to create a personal website?
« on: December 24, 2021, 11:44:04 pm »
Question 1: Inspiration

So I was watching this video titled "Shmorby's Guide To The Internet!" and in that video, there was this domain titled shmorby.com So I typed it and redirected to shmorby.neocities.org Curious me decided to shorten it to neocities.org I looked around on the sites tab which showed a list of sites including this one. However, I didn't think about making an account but just bookmarked it because I didn't know how to code in HTML. Weeks later, I made an account because I thought to myself "I know how to program in other languages (like Lua) so it should be easy to learn with my skills." Another inspiration came from Kugee's site called razorback95.com which had the quote "Make websites, not accounts." With the inspiration from all of these sites, I was heavily inspired to make my own site.

Question 2: Challenges

Since I am starting out with writing my first HTML pages, I don't really know how to keep my code clean even if I try my best to do so. The second challenge is cost, I didn't know how expensive making a site can be until I made my account. Well, I kinda did know about Wix's prices which were pretty pricy plus the additional cost of keeping up with rebuying the same domain over and over.

Question 3: The future

Honestly don't know, But my best bet is that in a few years I could probably afford to manage my own site with my own money and (Hopefully) could use my coding skills to work on projects that I want to make.

If you saw my post here: https://forum.melonking.net/index.php?topic=91.0 then you will know that I started working on a website, I am currently working on the homepage after doing nothing with it for a long time. I decided to make a website status to make statuses while I develop my website. Yes, the navigation circle is more like a navigation box, but for now when I figure out how to do it then I will update you guys on it.

Nice stuff Icelogist! The home page concept is already shaping up to be a fine roadmap.

I'm excited to see what sort of content will go under some of the planned pages (such as Games, 3D Models, and Images), whether it's original or linking to resources you personally enjoy.

Thanks! However, since this is an example I may have to scrap some stuff (Because I am a newbie at HTML and CSS.) It's very likely I will not even make a page about it at all and will just link to stuff that contains said content by me.

There are a lot of ways to make a domain, and for me, there are 3 types of domains, long, short, and midrange.
All of them have their pros and cons so I put them in a list that hopefully, I didn't get wrong.

Long domains

Pro

  • Less of them are taken
  • Cheaper
  • It's easier to get a domain with a popular TLD

Con

  • They are hard to memorize
  • Takes longer to get used to typing them.

Short domains

Pro

  • They are easier to memorize
  • You can type them quickly
  • In some scenarios, they are nice to look at

Con

  • More expensive
  • They are taken more frequently
  • If you use a less popular TLD you will lower in search results on a search engine

Midrange Domains

Pro

  • Easy to memorize
  • Can higher up in search results on a search engine
  • Recognizable
  • Eazier to get a popular TLD

Con

  • Depends on luck if it isn't taken
  • Can be expensive sometimes

So Yesterday I asked you to give me tips on creating websites.
I got a lot of feedback so I am now gonna give this image.
It's an example of what I will be making with the first page.

Man, I got a lot of feedback! It has been fun reading your replies. Now all I have to do is figure out what to do next with the first page.
Thank you

⛄︎ ∙ Forum Discussion / Re: Theme Poll - Do you like the forum theme?
« on: December 13, 2021, 05:45:54 am »
Currently, I think the theme is great and well made, But the icon choice is a bit off.
However, this could be me not being used to Web 1.0 or the wild west time period of the internet so it's fine.

I have only made my Neocities account a few months ago but I have been inactive on my site. The holidays are coming up and I wanna take advantage of that to work on my artistic skills (including coding).
What are some tips for Website making?

I currently only have 2, one was for a school project (I am mentioning it because there were no restrictions on what to put and I made it myself), the other is my Neocities site!
