☕︎ ∙ Fun & Forum Games / Re: Corrupt a wish!« on: January 01, 2023, 10:40:01 pm »Granted, now you need it for the rest of the day, almost non-stop. Granted, but it's only in 144p. I wish that the person who is gonna grant this wish won't have their's corrupt. 48
☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: The shiny object syndrome and difficulties trying to control my habits.« on: January 01, 2023, 10:25:43 pm »Im a real believer in the idea that true passion is never a chore. If you really love a hobby or a task you've set for yourself, it should be easy (lots of work sure, but it should be work that you find yourself wanting to do). True, a passion shouldn't feel like a chore but I don't think I would agree with you on the "Linux Distro" part. You see, I actually do like using Linux, it's just that I was having trouble finding a distro that I should be on, while yea sure I can just edit the distro to my liking but I don't have that kind of experience to be removing packages that I don't know about. I am currently on fedora which I modified to make updates download faster and a few gnome extensions to make the desktop environment better as I am writing this. For the hobbies I currently have, I don't want to just give them up as I do have interest in doing them. I have made plenty of scratch projects in my free time as a kid using my programming knowledge to do them, isn't that proof that I can have fun with programming? 49
✁ ∙ Web Crafting / Re: Are we reviving the old web or building something new?« on: January 01, 2023, 09:37:21 pm »I am apart of the "new" set of sites. Basic web design principles, a professional logo, rounded corners, etc. About the "split" within the indie web community about the best approach to reviving or building upon the old web. Yes, there are some people believe that the goal should be to closely emulate the web as it was in the 1990s and early 2000s, while others believe that we should aim to create something new that is inspired by the past but incorporates their own design principles and their own set of technologies. I personally believe that we should allow people to experiment with and embrace a variety of styles and technologies, including those that may be considered "old." That's the true beauty of building your own site! However, I also think it is important to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past, such as blindly embracing corporate influence or neglecting accessibility. To achieve this balance, I believe that a web revival should be used as a learning tool for the history of the internet to learn what went right and what went wrong, while an indie web should strive for a balance of new and old technologies. By doing so, we can create something new and meaningful that celebrates the diversity and creativity of its users, without repeating the mistakes of the past. It is important to recognize that not everyone may agree on the best approach, and it may be difficult to find a solution that everyone can agree upon. So so there will always be different standards and disagreements between each site of what we are trying to achieve, but hopefully we can find some standards that the majority will agree with. 50
✁ ∙ Web Crafting / Re: Neocities kinda sucks, but it's still kinda good.« on: December 30, 2022, 08:23:23 pm »That said, why not test out your design locally before uploading? While I also do stuff locally, I would have been totally fine with doing everything online if it weren't for that pesky file manager & and updating limitation. In fact, I do some small edits online and I really wish neocities where more like git so I could just make commits and then when finished testing, I can upload it. 51
✁ ∙ Web Crafting / Neocities kinda sucks, but it's still kinda good.« on: December 30, 2022, 10:44:09 am »Let's say you want to update your site and add a new over hall to how your site looks with a new and cleaner codebase, one major problem you will have to over come is that everything needs to be published publicly in order to see any changes to your site, so you can expect visitors to be confused when visiting a site with a broken css theme. Another problem is that file management in Neocities is pretty much a chore, in order to move files in and out of folders you have to manually rename each one to change the origin, no dragging and dropping. While you could try and work around the problem and do the update locally and then upload it, there still exists a really annoying folder bug which when you have a folder with many other folders in it, they will be ignored and all the files in those folders will just be placed in the parent folder. But even then, I still think neocities is pretty good. It's extremely accessible to pick up, easy to use for skipping a learning curve from learning the layout of site editors or simply self-hosting, and it has a visible community with the ability to view other people's creations from the homepage. All it needs is some work to fix up the problems it has. That's all. 52
✎ ∙ Making Games & Art Discussion / Re: Learning 3D modelling« on: December 30, 2022, 08:49:01 am »Blender is the standard, no questions needed. There also exists a "Free" Proprietary and Windows only alternative called Paint 3D which is easy to use but I would recommend switching to Blender once you got the hang of it. The answer above is a pretty good read. 53
☔︎ ∙ Help & Tutorials / Re: How do you go about making a blog on neocities?« on: December 21, 2022, 11:30:51 pm »As of now I currently use Zonelets, which is a easy to implement HTML blogging engine, I "recommend" it for people who are starting out with website making and what to mess around with HTML. For people with more advanced sites however, will be a little limited. My biggest complaint about Zonelets however is that it's really repetitive to use, let's say that you want to make a post, if you are doing this on neocities you have to make a HTML file, copy and paste code from the example file, make your post, then go back to the big js file, add the HTML file's location to a list of other HTML file locations and then wait a while because Neocities is pretty slow when it comes to updating JS scripts. There exists a non-JS alternative called john-doe.neocities.org but it's more of a "multiple pages in one HTML file" project than a half baked Blogging engine. More info about Zonelets can be found on Zonelets.net. 54

✎ ∙ Making Games & Art Discussion / Re: What should I do with this post?« on: December 18, 2022, 06:10:12 am »Maybe design what they would look like, you could even use the design for anti nft blinkies or buttons. I would love to have them up on my site! Maybe you could create a basic clicker game (I could help) based on it! I would like something more positive than bashing a pretty much dead trend, so an anti-nft blinkie/button wouldn't work. After all, they are "Thankful Tokens". Let me tell you my original idea: The Thankful Token is kinda inspired by Gifypets, but this time instead of having a pet sim inside a iframe on a random site you have a token telling you a random "nice phrase" from a list of phrases like "You look good today!" or "Happy birthday!". Another idea I had while writing this is to have random "nice phrases" in the button or blinkie. Considering the absolute randomness of web-revival sites the idea should work. Edit: Typo! Meant to say Gifypets not Neopets! 58

✎ ∙ Making Games & Art Discussion / What should I do with this post?« on: December 15, 2022, 07:58:37 pm »Context: https://icg.neocities.org/posts/2022-07-03-Introducing-Thankful-Tokens.html For people not in the know there is a satirical post Introducing "Thankful Tokens" that is on my site meant to parody NFTS. I didn't really do much about the post after words to focus on Web-Jammming. But now since WJ is pretty much dead I decided to look back at that post and want to make something for you guys! I have thought about simply making it a web-plant for a web-garden but then thought that was too boring. Send me your ideas! 60
✎ ∙ Making Games & Art Discussion / Re: What art program do you use?« on: December 01, 2022, 08:48:53 pm »I use pencil and paper, pretty good alternative with a low learning curve! (For an actual alternative I recommend Krita, it's free and open source.) |
