☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: Social Media is dangerous« on: April 03, 2022, 06:33:38 pm »I just stumbled across this video that explains how social media negatively effects people who make "content" as well. Definitely worth a watch, though I think he's a bit naive about his predictions near the end. This gives me hope as a small "content" creator. 81
♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Linux Mascot Games. (Yes, they exist.)« on: April 03, 2022, 03:18:04 am »While I was on my laptop being bored as usual I instantly remembered a title that I once heard about "SuperTuxKart" a Mario Kart inspired game but with Open source mascots from the Linux community. Long story short, I download and played it. Seems like an unexpected topic doesn't it? I thought they where interesting to look at. 1. SuperTuxKart SKT feels like a Mario kart clone while also being it's own thing. While yes, you can do the usual racing, battling, and time trials. But it also has a graphic settings panel which Mario Kart doesn't have. The only complaint I have with this game is the animations and UI feel a little dated. (9/10) 2. SuperTux In this game, instead of Mario kart with Tux, you get Super Mario Bros with Tux! This game is pretty good but the only problem is that I suck at platformers. I could be going around killing enemies with my power up until I fall down a pit and move back to the last checkpoint causing me to be more vulnerable since I lost my power up. (7/10) Current Conclusion From looking at these games this makes me think about how Linux gaming was back then, especially since a lot of these games are older than me! If there is anything that I missed, let me know in the replies! 82

⛄︎ ∙ Forum Discussion / My thoughts on the forum categories?« on: March 26, 2022, 05:55:13 pm »So we are a few months into the forum now and Iv been reviewing how its working out and if anything needs to be changed. I think the categories right now are completely fine. But yes, merging & splitting categories is a good thing. First off, the internet is huge, there are plenty of things to talk about it. Another thing to take note is that a lot of the most talked about topics are negative or asks the reader a question (these topics typically get more engagement). 3D can be hard to learn and it would be easier to just use something like the internet category. Do people think off topic is working? That maybe could be split into interests like Anime/Comics, Graphic Design and Social threads. Personally for me, I often get "Off topic" confused with "General Discussion" both categories are quite similar (Don't you think?). I think a lot of new users would get confused with both categories. As for splitting it, I think having an off topic category is good for a forum like this one, but I think having the option to move the topic would be good instead of having the admin do all the work. Solution + suggested solution = answer? While yes, splitting categories maybe a good idea on paper but there needs to also be a bit of sorting on the index page. I think having a bunch of similar categories in one section would be great (Similar with what you did for Community zone and Workshop) For example, The "Art Zone" and "Music Room" Categories could be moved from the community zone section to an art section on the index page. Splitting big categories and adding smaller ones in the same mix but in a different custom section of the index page could give the small categories a second chance. Another weird idea would be to allow the community to suggest categories, but I would allow you to figure it out. 84
☆ ∙ Showcase & Links / nice« on: March 17, 2022, 06:34:03 am »Nice collection! But isn't there copyright behind these images? Well yes, they are old and might be abandon ware but is there a risk of having someone take me down because I used a texture that hasn't been used in years by the copyright holder? 85
♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Thinking the Pokemon universe irl« on: March 12, 2022, 08:27:04 pm »Lots of death and suffering, or maybe a very great life? The Pokemon universe is pretty much revolved around battling Pokemon with other Pokemon which... Is not very optional. Imagine just getting your own starter Pokemon from the whatever that place was called then out of no where a random kid comes up and challenges you to a fight. You try to walk out of it but then are forced into it. The kid gets out a Charizard and "knocks out" your newly acquired Pokemon. If Pokemon was real then we would have a lot of questions on how to deal with the stuff that the games, anime, etc bring up. While yes it would be cool to see actual Pokemon, but would it be worth seeing animals with powerful abilities battle to the death from two strangers because of a quick little challenge? But let's not get our concerns in the way of exploring this new world. In this world could be a whole new experience that people in the current universe would be in absolute auw at. A bunch of powerful living creatures that we have control over, and the plenty of ways we can use them. Imagine having a whole selection of Pokemon that together have the power to wipe out a whole park that a bunch of other less powerful Pokemon live on that you have to yourself. While yes I may have answered none of the questions that you mentioned but I will answer one. If the Pokemon world was real, what would you do?My answer would be to not battle trainers. Even with a whole pile of cash on the line I still wouldn't do it. Why would I risk killing my Pokemon when I could keep them? Yes, I maybe considered a wimp but It's just not worth it. I don't think you would have a dog battle a wolf so why battle a (Insert Pokemon name here) with a (Insert another Pokemon name here). It just doesn't make any sense IMO. 86

☕︎ ∙ Fun & Forum Games / Do humans like being petted?« on: February 18, 2022, 04:19:50 pm »I have been quite confused with the concept of petting animals, we have pet dogs, cats, birds, snakes, pigs, etc. But if people are saying some animals like being pet, are we no exception? If we are just going around rubbing our hands on some dog's head and saying "it like it" would it be fair to ask the question to ourselves? |
