Wasn't sure whether I should post this in web crafting or showcasing.. but I really want to see what everyone's favorite part of their website is! It can be big or small - a little graphic or a whole webpage.

« on: February 10, 2023, 01:43:18 am »
LibreOffice Iv used in the past, and its good if you have nothing else; but its slow and clunky and generally not nice to use (I do like that it has a retro drawing app though).

Ooo thanks for reminding me about Godot, Iv been meaning to give it a proper try!

The tablet was a great deal, I got it on ebay for 80 euro with no stylus. Then a family member gave me their spare stylus, but it was too old for my tablet, so I sold it and got the right one for the same price. Anyway all and all with some trading, I got a super professional tablet for 80 euro!
I'm nearly a year late, but have you tried Godot yet?

I started messing with it in November-December, I really like it! I need to start working on that project again.

P.S. Nice set up :eyes:

⛽︎ ∙ Technology & Archiving / Re: mechanical keyboards as a hobby?
« on: February 09, 2023, 04:05:33 am »
You guys have such cool keyboards! I always loved the idea of getting into mechanical keyboards, trying different switches, mix and matching custom made keycaps, picking out cables.. they look so nice. But I tried a mechanical keyboard once, and the volume of my keypresses gave me anxiety! I don't think I could use any mechanical keyboard just because of the volume! Sadge

Edit: I have spent the past few hours looking at silent switches and keyboard dampening. I have discovered hope.

your website rocks. it was one of the sites I saw that made me realize how awesome the indie web is, before I decided to make my own.

@Gecko - that thing is sweet! I checked eBay out of curiousity, there's one for $60~ish, so it definitely fits. It makes me wonder, maybe there's a way you can get cheap parts for it to repair the issues you have - for fun, that is, if that sort of thing floats your boat. Could be an interesting learning experience.
I'm thinking about soldering more ram onto my Chromebook's motherboard, myself. 90% sure I'd mess it up, but it would be really cool if I could get it to work

@ Dotmidi: Love it. That media really had its own aesthetic. I miss the camcorder we used to have - completely forgot about it and I have no idea where those files are! But I had a blast using it.

Also your font makes me read what you've written in some kind of heavy metal vocals :omg:k:

@ Melon: you have a VERY cool mom.

@ Cobra: I really, really want a point and shoot film camera.

@ Gans: I've never heard about those Medions, but after that introduction, I'm going to have to do a little digging.

@CyberCat2000: Yes! I had a Cybershot (well, my dad did, until I left it in my pocket and got caught in a wave at the beach). I loved that camera! It was so small and slick looking! It was from 2002 or 2003 - the DSC-T7 - back when 5 megapixels was a big deal. I still have the body, but that camera has been dead for 18 years now.

I really love your site! But every time I visit I run into an issue with horrible loading times.. like.. I can go and make a cup of tea while some of your pages load  I think it might be todo with google fonts; something about the mix of your site, my computer and google fonts is very unhappy - it could just be me that expirences this, but you might be better off hosting the Aclonica font yourself!

https://www.1001freefonts.com/aclonica.font
Thank you!!

I'm not even sure why I had Aclonica in all the other pages, as I'm not using it anywhere but the homepage
I'm guessing I had plans to use it in other areas.

I'm hosting it now on Neocities - do the pages load well now?

Also, little update - I've turned a "flaw" into a feature!

Those are some lovely greens and yellows. Throw it in manual and RAW and start playing around! RAW makes a huge difference, indeed, specifically when recovering highlights/shadows and adjusting color temperature. My tripod gave out under the weight of my camera a long time ago and the camera fell 8 feet and bashed into a rock. The little dial that switches it from Manual mode to the other modes got wrecked, so now I'm permanently stuck in manual mode (fine by me!) I used to find great pleasure in working with my camera's limitations to capture the images I want - though the 645z doesn't seem to offer that challenge to me any longe

I really like the look of those OM-Ds (and all the other cameras that brands have decided to embrace the retro look with!) I'm guessing that's the E-M10 III? That's one of the few camera brands I haven't had an experience with yet, but I'm sure the photos are stellar.

I haven't touched mirrorless cameras yet, but I'm really considering on it for my next move, either full-frame or medium format mirrorless (probably the former, as mf is expensive!)

And yes, it was very expensive, but I used it as my workhorse! I would've never been able to afford it on my own. I've never been a well-off person, but I caught the attention of an art patron when I was leaving school and got a grant for my photography. I was able to pick it up used for $5,500 with the support I received. Most expensive thing I've ever purchased. I've yet to spend that much on a car, haha. But I'd like to think that this camera has paid for itself by now and I'll probably be using it far, far into the future! Even though it'd be difficult to sell for even $2k at this point, the image quality is such that I see no reason to retire it until it dies (but I would love a Nikon Z7 or something similar because this thing is a bit backbreaking while traveling)

That's awesome! I'd like to pick up one of those just to play around with. The a6000 is a solid little camera! I'd like to pick something about around the size for the outdoors and leave my primary camera in the studio. Current camera is a 645z - have been using it since 2016.

Just curious if any of you have a favorite camera. The quality of the images that come out of my current camera.. *chefs kiss* I can't complain about them at all. However, it's not something I enjoy shooting with, at all! It's big, slow, heavy, unwieldy.. I've missed a lot of shots and have probably skipped a few times I've wanted to go out shooting because it's just not fun to work with. Thinking about changing over to a different type in the future.

✁ ∙ Web Crafting / Re: Considering getting a Domain/Email for my site
« on: January 28, 2023, 02:41:35 am »
I want, like, 50 domains. I just have to come up with ideas for websites good enough to justify paying for them. :eyes: I'll spend hours searching for unique domain names, just to not order them. If anyone here is able to register a .eus domain name, 'cereus' is a genus of cacti and cer.eus is currently available. It would be a really cool domain name for someone.

Welcome, Ivy! Is that a Mae pfp I see? I really liked Night in the Woods, and was very pleased to be greeted by that photograph of the mallard on your website. I really want a pet duck...

I hope you enjoy your time here!

I just wanted to say thanks to you for making this club. :pc: It has been a great time talking to people about their old or obsolete machines.

Thanks for suggesting I post about it here!

A little bit off-topic but I reuse as much as I can. Someone gave me this American Micro computer a long time ago. I've forgotten what was originally in it, but the sticker says Windows 2000 Professional.

I've updated it quite a bit since then! I use it mostly for video editing so it's got a bit of video IO hardware in it. I don't play games so the graphics card is good enough for hardware acceleration for the editors.

That's a sweet looking machine.

Ditto Frugal and /home/user/, I am heavily enjoying that font.
