Never heard of Expage before but I searched it now and discovered a tale of early 2000s horse website discrimination  Web stables made on Geocities and Angelfire etc refused to cooperate with the inferior Expage stables, which lead to the founding of the Association for the Support of Expage stables. They wrote (translated by me): "The discrimination and belittling of Expage stables on a MASSIVE scale has begun recently. E.g. compared to Geo-stables. On Expage, you can see stables equally as good as on Geo Therefore, we started this association - for all expage stables. Every Expage stable is welcome to join us and we also wish for it from the bottom of our heart!"

Interesting piece of history...

Oh my goodness, that is so funny.

Geocities definitely felt more advanced than Expage. If I recall correctly, you couldn't just edit the whole site with Expage. There were separate fields for the header, body, and footer that you could edit separately, and you were stuck to choose some of their limited options for graphics, dividers, songs, etc. It was still great fun though. I met my best friend on that website, we've been friends for over 20 years, because I stole the color of his background and that made him upset.

The front page of Expage looked like this:

Here's my archived Expage website, courtesy of 10 year old me.

Here's my friend's archived Expage website.

And this is one of the absolute MIDI bangers you could choose from, hahaha.

It's kind of an obscure web game, but it was a website called virtualdog.com, where you could sign up, adopt a dog, train it, and then walk around as the dog inside of an online chatroom talking with other dogs LOL.

I remember playing it at midnight when the calendar switched from 1999 to 2000!

I wish I could login and play again!

« on: January 06, 2023, 10:35:34 pm »
Pizza is definitely my favorite food, and classic margherita is high on the list.

For some reason I've really, really been enjoying spinach and black olives on a pizza for the past couple years.

Pineapple on pizza is an offense to my taste buds  no offense intended to those who enjoy it. I just have some strong feelings about how a pizza should taste LOL.

I like dogs, but I would never adopt one because they are too high maintenance.

I feel the same way, haha. Dogs are amazing, but I just don't have it in me to give one the attention and maintenance it deserves. I might get along with a fish tank, though.

I totally forgot about Angelfire! Classic! I think I only tried making a site on there but went back to Expage.

:ziped: I haven't seen a confessions thread yet.. and I have something to confess..

I spent more time on Expage than I did on Geocities, and I liked it better too.. :drat:

Now that that's off my chest... anyone else have any lighthearted webrelated confessions?

Really searching for a good Cbox alternative for my chatroom, before I commit to upgrading Cbox!

So far I've found...

HTMLCHAT:
+ No limit for amount of messages, web traffic
+ Draw pictures, upload pictures, have an account
- No moderating capabilities....

Chatovod:
+ No limit for amount of messages, web traffic
+ Mod capabilities, BBCode, private messages
- Russian company. I can't help but feel some reservation toward using them, given my concerns with privacy.

Cbox is nice, but its drawback is how much it limits you in the amount of messages and pageviews it will allow through!

@frugalgamer @/home/user/

Thank you guys! I'll just stick with editing each page manually, then . This gives me another reason to start working on another project - Onio Town XD Instead of having to go through each page on the site to edit the menu manually, I'll break Onio Cafe down into smaller sites or "buildings" within Onio Town. Onio Cafe ~ the chat. Onio Times ~ the blog and articles. Onio Gallery ~ creative works.

Btw, that little bit of history about iframes is pretty fun. I feel like I almost remember that anti-iframe sentiment!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I don't even know if or what the term for this would be! I did try searching in Google and the forum to no avail.

Basically, I've realized that it's a pain in the butt to edit a <div> element (like my scrolling menu) then having to copy and paste that element into every single webpage. Is there a standard method for separating that <div> element, or even the <header> and <footer>, into separate .html files, then linking them back into the layout, so that I can just the content of that element in one location and it will update all across the site?

Welcome, Leek!

I just found this space during the last days of December and I'm hooked. So much to explore, and so many great tools and resources for creating a page now  Highly recommend it.
