But you are totally right that this is a very big deal from a personality-games perspective; the character you play as in a game is not just a reflection of your personality; it literally is your personality. When you are playing as a game character, you become that character and they become you, and that connection stays with you even after you stop playing (Thats called embodiment in game design).

So Id say that you choose a character based on yourself.. but the character also chooses you.. and the person that you become together changes you, and informs what you'll choose (and who you'll become) in the future  (This is also why cosplay is such a big deal for many people).

I wonder, is it really now? Or is there something even deeper going on...

I mean - could I, as I am right now, relate to these characters? Probably not by much. When I look at these chosen imaginary warriors, what's their type? They give me the feeling between "Play with your prey" to "You're barely even worth my time". Would I act the same in their position and powers?

In real life I'm not arrogant, completely confident, indifferent, elegant, brutal, focused or strong willed as they are. Do they have some qualities that I strive for or admire? Maybe yes. But some of them are also the complete opposite of what I wish for myself.

So, maybe I'm simply attracted to this kind of personality? Uh, I'm not sure if I'll ever be willing to marry any of these female characters. I highly prefer empathetic, sweet, shy, well-mannered and warm

Does it correlate with other types of media I choose to consume? Now that's getting complicated... my most loved genres are either horror - or the most wholesome, flowery, cute and pure hand-holding story stuff you can find. Contradiction in itself. Maybe it is the combination of them both? Of elegance and brutality, of childish play but cold indifference, arrogant yet well-mannered... A type of fear that is not grotesque but inviting.

But wait! If my personality is one to love this kind of stuff, to be fascinated by it, then isn't it my personality then after all?! And maybe in turn they reinforce my attachment to these qualities?!

There's some serious psychological shenanigans going on here I'm telling you!

Maybe there's some kind of interesting psychology behind it?

I had the sudden idea of doing a fun experiment and collect images of my main characters from fighting games I've played over the years, to see if they have anything in common. To my surprise, despite being unaware of it, it seems they have!

https://imgur.com/a/cN1hYQJ

So, uh, there's quite in common between them. Should I be scared?

How do we choose the characters that we do? Do we have a certain tendency for looks, perceived personality, gameplay-style, etc? And why?

You can create your own collage on desktop using:

You can drag images straight from any website, right click-EDIT on cells to increase image size, upload to imgur or other.

It doesn't specifically have to be fighting games characters, maybe other her:ha:role-based games, maybe it could be your own creations, or simply ones that you consider your favorites!

One of my favorite songs is "Yume No Tsubasa" from the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Anime OST. It always feels relevant to me, or at least it has for 14 years now.
The lyrics talk about the passage of time, about fading memories and believing in our old dreams. Haha, even now it still doesn't fail to make me tear up when listening to it...

"Yume No Tsubasa" directly translates to "Wings Of Dreams" - and even though I tend to dream quite a lot and naturally remember my dreams very well, I felt that WingsOfImagination would make a better fit as a username since I feel that my imagination is more of a core aspect of my personality.

It also makes a nice expression, because I truly believe that our imagination is like our own set of magical wings, allowing us to break free from the harsh shackles of reality, going on to infinity because really nowhere is far enough for the human spirit; which in turn makes reality itself sort of magical and limitless, because if this world allows such things to exist in the form of our thoughts and feelings, surely in a way it is part of the reality we live in? From the very depths of our fears, to the most heavenly glow, they are all here...

You can use that tag on a raw URL without the = alias function, that's why it's that way. Like this:

https://libre.town

Hm, but isn't this already being done automatically? What's the use case for it? Every URL already becomes a clickable hyperlink even without manual insertion of the 'url' tag.

https://libre.town

I thought it's meant to be used only when alias is needed? (example: Libre.)

65
I'm not sure if it's a mistyped tag or if it's me who is misunderstanding how to use it, but shouldn't the "Insert Hyperlink" button output this:

Code
[url=][/url]

Instead of this?

Code
[url][/url]

I always have to manually add the '=' sign following the url.

Burnout 3: Takedown would be cool. PC release would be very much appreciated. Still one of the best arcade racing games I've ever played.

(And while you're at that please give us the promised Split/Second sequel, please I beg you I BEG WITH TEARS!)

Did you know there used to be a thing called Pepsi Ice Cucumber? Yeah...

I prefer dogs. Cats are cute, cool and elegant, but the love and passion of a happy dog is unmatched.

Summer or winter?

I love this! Some of my first websites were Mortal Kombat and DBZ fan pages on Angelfire.

I'm a huge fan of DBZ! I can't even describe how much this masterpiece means to me. Nothing else on this earth is as cool as Dragon Ball!

It's a testament to the human ambition and our need to break free from our limits. We may be just small and fragile human beings, but our inner world is greater than the universe :ozwomp:

Hey you guys, let's not derail the thread now, shall we? I sense the start of a heated discussion. Better if you take it to PM if so you wish

One of my favorite is AMVs is this DBZ x Mortal Kombat Theme song. Used to watch it on repeat. Good memories!

Thinking about some upcoming forum changes! People seem to have a hard time figuring out the diffrences between Life on the Web, Chat & Forum Games & General Interests

Im thinking of making these changes:
  • Rename Chat & Forum Games to Fun & Forum Games - making it just for fun topics
  • Rename Life on the Web to Life on Earth - making it all general social discussion
  • Removing General Interests and adding Technology as an interest
  • Adding a Game Development Board to the Workshop
  • Removing the Asset Sharing board and merging its topics elsewhere

Lermmy know any opinions! :ozwomp:

1. I agree, it makes much more sense this way.

2. Not quite sure about this one. I feel that we still need a focused web discussion, considering the common ground of us being here. Where we'll talk about web revival or share stories of the old web?

3. What about all the interests that don't fit the other sections?

4. A very welcome addition!

5. I agree. Probably should be under Workshop General.

When I was around 8-9 years old boy I had to suddenly switch to a different elementary school due to various reasons. Back then as a kid, I felt very angry and sad about the unwanted moving and I missed much my old school and friends.

In my stubborn mind, I had decided to myself that I will purposely avoid any sort of involvement with my classmates, up until I finally convince my parents to bring me back to my old school. As a result, I used to avoid everyone and sit alone around the school every time during breaks, something which I ended up doing for quite a long time. Probably months.

One moment which I remember in particular, was one of the days when it was dark and cloudy during fall or winter season. I was sitting up on the stairs leading to the street exit while facing the rocky playground where the other kids were playing soccer, and I was looking at a bunch of dead leaves sprawling and moving around the ground and up the air by the force of the wind. I remember, very clearly, imagining myself being able to control the wind with the power of my mind and carrying those dead leaves wherever I want them to go. When the school bell rang, I slowly stopped what I was doing and stood up to go back to class, and I suddenly felt this emptiness feeling crawling in my body, the most lonely I've ever been.

If there's anything I would describe as a "core memory" for me, it's quite likely to be this one. For whatever reason it is, it's a moment I'll probably remember for my entire life. Maybe due to this memory the cold days always feel like a mix of sweet hopefulness and biting sadness to me. But I love dark windy days regardless...or maybe because.
