Lies and slander!
How can you believe everything you see on the internet, seriously?

The dress and the photo are from my country (Scotland), so I think I know better than anyone else here.

It's black and blue. (This is the store that took the photo.)

Yeah! As long as you have a Dreamcast model that supports playing burnt discs, it's pretty easy.
The Dreamcast used GD-ROMs for it's games which were larger then CD-R's, but there are ways to cram the games into CD-R's and have the Dreamcast read it. One thing to note is I think the Dreamcast has to work harder to read CD-R's so be aware of extra wear and tear on the system from it.
I'm not sure what the stance on piracy is on this forum so I won't go into specifics, but there is plenty of info out there if you want to look into it more.

I heard that, too. You can help alleviate this by using higher quality CD-Rs (People always point to Verbatm’s “Music CDs” whenever I ask), and making sure the ISO being burned takes up as much space on the CD as possible.

Those too! Shareware discs are another thing I'd love to collect if I could find any. I'm currently calling local retro gaming stores in search  :ozwomp:

I actually got a shareware CD last year from some random shop I found on a street near my old home. It had stuff like VHS tapes, floppy disks and cassette tapes!

The CD had 50+ sharewares and even some bootlegs, some of which had never been archived, so an archivist friend helped to preserve them.

I’m not sure what I make of consciousness, but I know who I am, I see, touch, feel, etc.

The scariest part is how, as far as we know, it’s all done simply by electrical signals going through our brains and body, and one day it will all just be… gone. That terrifies me.

something i've been thinking about lately is the idea of plant (and also fungi) consciousness...i don't believe that these organisms "think" the same way humans do, like, when you search for reading about plant consciousness there seems to be an assumption that you're conceptualizing it as if plants form thoughts and feelings exactly like the human brain, and i don't believe that. but i do believe that they "think" in their own ways, which is honestly more wild and interesting to me than the idea that they have humanlike thoughts. the idea that these organisms are alive and exist and make decisions in a way that my mammal brain could never comprehend is so crazy and i think about it every time i'm out for a walk and pass by a tree, lol. like, that's a living thing, stuck in a little fenced-off planter on a sidewalk, and it's just vibing and doing its thing and Existing in a way that i, as a human, never could. i wonder if the tree knows it's a tree, but i also wonder if that actually matters as far as classifying it as a conscious being? i guess if you hold it to the standards of human consciousness, it would be disqualified...but what are the standards of tree consciousness...

i have no idea if any of this post makes sense :ha: basically sometimes i'm just like woooaahhh
trees, man...

One fact I learned a while back that I’m obsessed with is about how plants communicate with one another.

Their roots interconnect to one another, and send messages to each other. So like a flower you plant will connect to a nearby tree or bush, and basically anything on the ground that’s nearby.

Some researchers have said it’s like the early internet, meaning humans weren’t the first species to invent something of the sort. Maybe I’ll make a dedicated thread to this one day and link some articles I’ve been reading, but it’s so cool!

I actually thought about this the other day, and I think I know what my dream house would be.

So I have family in a small village in the middle of nowhere in Italy, in a region that Italians like to joke that it doesn't exist. (Similar to Shetland in Scotland or Wyoming in the US)

It's literally miles away from the nearest town, and is very peacful, everyone knows each-other, and crime is so low, people leave their front doors open, and people only ever die of old age, so they don't even bother with autopsies.

I'm getting side-tracked. There are houses in this village that's even several minutes away from the nearest house, and are generally huge. I would love to live in a house like that there one day!

As for the house itself, a room to store all of the films, games and music is a given. I'd love to have something like what this guy has.

Or just something like this:

I'd also love to have a room made to be as authentically 90s as possible. Have a CRT in there, a VCR, maybe a Laserdisc player, and a games console or two. A Windows 98 desktop in the corner somewhere as well, connected to the internet via the Old Net Proxy. Basically a time capsule.

I'd also like a space dedicated to tinkering with stuff, fixing electronics, or making robots!

I absolutely love demo discs! I remember seeing them as exclusive sneak peaks of a game that hasn't come out yet.

They're also permanently in a development phase. Any bugs that exist in this demos, but not the full game, will stay there as long as the disc holds the data. It's always interesting seeing any differences between the demo of a game and the full game.

Over here, McDonald's were the ones distributing PS1 demo discs, and because naturally I already enjoyed McDonald's, it made it all that much sweeter!

I think one of my biggest honours as a game developer is getting a demo of Operation: Pinkeye on a demo disc. It came on the 2nd demo disc released by E1M1 magazine. I had to rush the demo for their deadline, and as a result, is very, very rough! (The middle mouse button actually crashed the game!) It's something to laugh about now, though!

It's also interesting when you get a console that comes with some games and demo discs, and seeing those demo discs have games that I got with the system. You can kind of piece together how the previous owner discovered and decided to buy said games! I've even bought games after playing the demos on those same discs. Jet Set Radio on Dreamcast is an example! Clockwork Knight on Saturn, too!

it was so dang easy to burn games for Dreamcast that even as a kid I had a spindle of games for it and didn't have to spend a penny, perfect for my empty child wallet lol. But yeah, it was nice to have something else to sink your teeth into besides Sonic Adventure at no extra cost.

Yeah, and I think that ultimately led to the system's downfall. Nobody was going to develop for a system that can be easily pirated. It was patched with later consoles, but it was too little too late.

However, it's a godsend for homebrew today! People can make new games, and even new demo discs for the system today and just release them! I got a demo disc full of homebrew demos not too long ago, actually!

One thing I find funny was that the PS2 ended up having the exact same exploit (or close enough) as the Dreamcast! Piracy happened on DC because of a Mil-CD exploit, on PS2, it's an exploit with DVD video. :p (Only thing was it was only discovered last year iirc!)

The Snatcher track reminds of the beginning and end parts to this track.

I like Dithering. It reminds me of the DOS/Windows 9x days!

I love seeing how older, more limited machines handle bigger images and how they dither them. Some older CD consoles even did this to videos.

Mega Race is a good example of this, this is the original on DOS:

This is the Mega CD port:

BBCode. Markdown feels like a cheap imitation to me.

Analogue or Digital?

Ah okay, I'm sorry for misunderstanding then! I didn't know that it was capable of receiving extra inputs, admittedly I'm not super saavy when it comes to the technical side of the Dreamcast. We're there ever any third party or homebrew controllers made with those extra inputs? Although I'm guessing there wouldn't have been any releases that would have supported that outside of homebrew apps I assume?

Yeah, I would guess so. I imagine in theory it would be possible to make a first person shooter that takes those extra inputs and make a controller that uses them, or even modding older games to take them, but I guess there's not a big enough market for that.

I'm actually looking into making a first person puzzle game for the console, maybe I should see about having a dual analog option...
