)I loved those games as a child, and nothing has changed!
I also go back to Robot Arena 2, Simcity 4 and The Sims 3 a lot! They aren't games that you can complete really, just games to casually play, and they're so much fun!

♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: A game that you have played a million times?« on: August 23, 2022, 08:03:42 pm »Three games I always go back to are Tony Hawk's Skateboarding, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and Tony Hawk's Underground. ♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Anti-Piracy measures in games« on: August 11, 2022, 11:56:43 pm »I've been going down a rabbit hole, I suppose you could call it, of games that have creative anti-piracy measures, how they can detect piracy, and what they do when it does. Things like Mega Drive and SNES games trying to save memory to addresses that the original carts don't have, but copies are very likely to. And like how GTA IV gives you a permanent drunk camera, and Batman Arkham Asylum not letting you glide. I think my favourite, though, is Puggsy on the Mega Drive. dIH84OWvWzY What anti-piracy measures do you guys know about and what are your favourites? 229
♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: Old Games + New Technology = <3« on: August 11, 2022, 11:51:32 pm »I'm personally a bit purist when it comes to this, and a bit passionate. I feel like you're not getting the full experience if you emulate or using a modded console. It's like how they say VHS tapes are best viewed on a 4:3 CRT TV. It's not just a nostalgia thing (Though that does play a role), tapes were made to be viewed on those TVs. It's a lot like how older games were made to be 4:3, and 360i, or on a cartridge/disc. I also feel like having everything there on a menu instead of needing to pull out a physical game dilutes the sentimental value, and makes them feel more disposable. I can imagine I'd get choice paralysis from that. That said, I can totally understand those who go down the emulation route in a practical sense, as original hardware and games are getting more and more expensive. I also emulate if I can't use a physical game/hardware. 230
⛽︎ ∙ Technology & Archiving / Re: Cool electronics shop tour from 1993« on: August 08, 2022, 02:41:11 pm »Oh man! What I wouldn't give to experience an electronics shop from the 90s! Not just the wide range of tech at the time, but the general aesthetic of shops at the time, and the promotional stuff. It felt like things had way more personality at the time. 232

Well, I haven't made any artwork or anything for them. I just recorded songs, wrote a title on the default slips and stickers, and called it a day. ^^" I guess if people want to see those anyway, I could upload some photos. 234
✑ ∙ Writers Corner / Re: I just got a typewriter!« on: July 30, 2022, 06:37:15 pm »Nice! Hope you have fun with it! I have a typewriter somewhere in the house I inherited from my parents. I need a new ink ribbon or figure out how to add ink to the one already there. I do love the very mechanical nature of them, though! 235
☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: The Revival Beyond The Web« on: July 26, 2022, 10:08:46 pm »For me it boils down to dislike of advertising and a desire for physical and offline media. I haven't made the switch to a flip phone yet but I'm considering going for one next because of how much advertising smart phones throw at you, and I want to get an MP3 player to couple it for when I go out. That actually reminds me. I make mixtapes of internet-only songs I enjoy, so I can listen to them without needing the internet, and have been doing the same with Youtube videos to VHS. Although I don't watch the latter as often as I'd thought, but it's cool that the option is there! To an ever lesser extent, I also burn digital-only games onto disc and make custom covers and CD art for them. I've noticed that it's changed my reaction to a song being digital only from "I refuse to even listen to it unless it's on a CD or record" to "Ah well, time to record it on cassette!". In other words, it makes me feel like I'm taking matters into their own hands, which is kinda cool. 238
☞ ∙ Life on the Web / Re: The Revival Beyond The Web« on: July 13, 2022, 04:24:30 pm »I think it has been a subculture for some time. As much as I'd love to say it's anti-capitalist, companies and scalpers are taking advantage of us with the latter making us pay much more for things that use to cost us pennies and the former making half-baked nostalgia catering films and games for a quick buck. Like, imagine just the same as there is a blues bar or a punk pub today, we'd all gather to drink homemade lemonade in a retro themed internet café... I do love this idea, though I doubt they'd ever have anything like that where I live. (where would I be without Google Maps? Really, where?) Probably using an actual map, or MapQuest. Or any of the many GPSes that were around before Google Maps was. ![]() |
