⛽︎ ∙ Technology & Archiving / Re: Do you remember IRC?« on: February 01, 2022, 10:41:33 pm »So IRC was a huge part of my early online life. I end my web memories page with the following Quote and included a copy of netscape navigator and netscape chat. this opened up a whole new world to me... Which will lead onto my big IRC story. (make some time to sit down and actually write the page fLaMEd!) So, back in the day when you installed your ISP from a floppy disk, ours came bundled with Netscape Navigator and Netscape Chat which had the ISPs local IRC server pre-configured. Best part was it wasn't isolated to this ISP, but users from across the country converged. I got stuck into the various channels and quickly came up to speed with netiquette and interacting with others online. There was a healthy #teen channel going on and it wasn't long before we started meeting up in real life to trade music and play laser tag etc. I spent a good few years there and can't exactly what happened but I drifted to other IRC servers following a South Park community, and from there, that's where flamedfury kicked off, and the rest is history that I still have to document ![]() 22

I do remember that it could get *really* bad when it did. I do miss it. I think with the crowd I've met on the yesterweb and the web revival would have made the experience better. Keen to understand what you mean by IRC getting really bad? 23
♖ ∙ Games Cafe / Re: The Palace« on: January 28, 2022, 09:43:29 pm »South Park Studios used to run a South Park chat server on Palace so I was on there sometimes back in the late 90s. I spent a number of nights wandering around various servers collecting props etc. I always cracked up at the crews people would be in, YMCMBC was the biggest and most aggressive lol! 24

Thank you, will use forum.melonking.net Yes it was annoying in that the screen I have had the forum open during the day is to the right of my work screen and the constant animation in my peripheral was insane ![]() 25
✁ ∙ Web Crafting / Re: What web host do you use?« on: January 27, 2022, 09:47:38 am »At the moment, all my projects are hosted on linode.com. It's a paid service that lets you get access to a machine (around $5/month). We can then connect to the machine using ssh, and do anything we want with it! it's amazing what you can cram onto a small node right? 26

✑ ∙ Writers Corner / Re: What do you blog about?« on: January 26, 2022, 10:36:32 pm »For those of you who enjoy blogging, whether on a personal site or a blogging platform: what do you like to write about? At the moment, my new guides section is what would be considered a modern day blog... I'm intending of using these guides as personal notes, or reference material for myself as I go through and solve a problem or complete a task, and publish them as someone else may find them useful. A learning in public tool... ![]() In my teenage years I had personal homepages where I documented my days, what I did, how long I had stopped smoking weed for, what music I was listening to, what raves I went to over the weekend. In my early 20s about what books I read, or what concerts I went to. Later on when I got into barbecuing with fire, I had a BBQ blog - this was around peak blog monetisation where everyone was starting blogs and quitting their day jobs. I joined a blogging community and then slowly grew tiresome of the practices that seemed to get in the way of the joy of having your own website and sharing your hobbies with the world. I stopped for a while at that point up until I rebooted flamedfury.com into what you see it as today. 28
