Waking up in the middle of the night to one of those tornado warnings on television. Do those still exist? Did they change that god awful sound? I still remember the feeling of being a 5 year old all alone in my room and about to cry because I was too scared to go up to the television and turn it off. The sound was scary!
Thank god I never lived anywhere with tornado warnings. Though, I always dreaded september every year because that's where all the hurricanes start hitting the east cost.
I thought I was the only one who felt this way. A couple years ago I decided to put down social media entirely due to personal reasons and I was actually able to stay away from any and all social networking sites (besides Youtube and Discord, if those count) for about a year. I ended up having to go back though because the loneliness was eating me alive, as I'm unemployed and had little to no irl friends at that time. Though, I did feel happier during the majority of that year. That's around the time I discovered Neocities, since I was spending more time on my computer browsing the web and staying away from social media platforms. I decided to make a site to interact with people, thinking I would've left after a while. I've been here for around 3 years now, which is really weird to think about. I consider this place my home now and I actually spend more time here than on social media. Well unless I'm in bed, I usually spend early mornings and late nights mindlessly scrolling through posts. I feel like staying away from social media would be so much easier if people were inclined to explore the web. Everyone crowds on sites like Instagram, Twitter, Discord, because that's where their friends are. One of my close friends told me she only uses Discord to talk to me, which is weird, because, I really only use Discord to talk to her as well as two other folks but that's about it. It's basically hardwired into everyone's brains at this point that social media is The Place To Be to interact. No one ever thinks about sending a text message or even an e-mail anymore, even though everyone has the ability to.
I've seen that before, The reason why youtube can't be beat by competitors is because all the big guys are on it and can't move lest they risk their viewership and monetization.
Nintendo's old website looked a lot more interesting than now. N64 to gamecube era had a bit more going on with it's design Then again, people probably thought their websites back then looked generic. Oh well
DUDE! Now I can sell classic M&Ms packets at double cost
(Yes I actually keep a stock of M&Ms packets in case anyone ever trys to buy them)
Bring back the green ones go-go boots! (Disclaimer: I have never actually heard of a go-go boot and could not identify one if required)
I find the redesign kinda lazy. They clearly just copied over another character's limbs onto the green M&Ms body and trued to pass it off as an attempt to be progressive.
Though, there's probably more to this. I've posted on my website that I've caught wind that there's a dark side to Mars that they could be trying to keep people's attention away from with this marketing campaign.
I looked up the news about the M&Ms redesign and... Mars is shady as hell. The more I looked into it the more disturbed I was was about their history. No wonder people have been accusing the company for trying to steer people's attention away from their corrupt side.
The best way to sum it up is that they somehow thought that putting poison in their candy was a good idea
I feel that way about http://diabellalovescats.com/ .. it's been up since before I was born and the lady sure put a lot into making it. She last updated it last year; the internet would truly be lesser without it.
Similar thing with Future Express, It has been up since 2002 or so. Usually websites like these tend to last for around 10-20 years.
This website called http://www.futureexpress.net/, I visit it almost daily because it has a lot of cool artwork on it. Sadly it hasn't been active since 2008 or so and some of the work is already lost.
I'm probably the last generation to have cable. Many a show I liked got shafted due to low ratings, bad times, and the more obscure cartoon community at the time.
Not to mention, the internet is more convenient and has content made by independent creators. I would say kids today have it good but elsagate exists and popular sites have gotten more unfriendly to small creators.
Is this your project? If so what inspired you to start a public directory? and Id love to hear more about what kind of sites would suit it and how they might be organized.
Yes and I thought it would be fun to make a link directory
The sad thing is, people on Social Media is so deep into it that I've seen twitter basically deny the fact harms.
Usually they'll say that "It's school" or work that's bad when, all three are the reasons why people have bad mental health for different reasons. This makes things worse because it will basically normalize the toxicity and downright malicious design of social media by downplaying how bad it is.
