social media seriously harmed me. i really think that infinite feeds should be illegal, they are damaging to peoples health. i also had the "phantom limb" type experience it took me MONTHS to stop typing "facebook" into my browser... seriously... i would have dissociative episodes and panic attacks...
i know there will never be anything like this, but i wish that these social media sites and the people who plan them should stand trial for crimes against humanity - they have essentially run a MKULTRA style psychological experiment on all of humanity just for their own profits... it is a violation of international law and all common sense... these companies and the people who made them should really be in prison i think
the scariest part of it too is that facebook, google, all these companies are literally started by actual dyed in the wool Fascists for instance peter theil... i would not be surprised if they know fully well that they are harming people and actually think it is funny to do so (after all, Zuckerberg himself famously said "anyone who uses Facebook is a fucking idiot"
specifically also the effect on women and girls -
i noticed to my horror after i transitioned and began identifying as a woman, my instagram was suddenly full of "reels" or "stories" of random strangers who were mostly white, thin attractive women. it almost felt as though it was an intentional tactic of abuse!
it is often for misogynistic, evil men to make women feel insecure and ugly so that they do not have the confidence to stand up for themselves... i would not be surprised if Zuckerberg and the toxic misogynists who work for him and his ilk are fully aware of this even and do it on purpose. it might sound conspiratorial, but...
i dont know how i ran across it but i used to be obsessed with a forum called GameTalk!!!
also, it doesnt count as a message board i guess but i wrote tons of fanfiction.net ages ago. lol. fanfiction.net obviously was more open about lgbt stuff and honestly that was part of where i got awakened cause i mainly wrote yaoi slash fics :omg:k:
u should be able to just right click on the track to copy the link to it? maybe my site doesnt allow hotlinking, if so im not sure how to change that unfortunately
one of my favorite ways to draw things lately is zooming in really really far to make pixel art level stuff and scroll around, then zoom out and draw , zoom back it, etc. it makes it really interesting and fun of an experience for me idk. i kind of like the weird "bad" weirdly-composed and "unbalanced" look i get as a result of it
I did run into a few UI issues, mainly; if you click on an artist there's no way to go back (one time I clicked on an artist and it took me to your homepage I think?), also when you click on artists, the page loads a black screen and you have to scroll up to see the albums. I think adding a home button for the Cybergrunge releases window would fix a lot of that (maybe turn the X button on windows into a home/reset button)
Thank u! i am looking for other folks to help out because it is def a big project. i found someone on yesterweb disc0rd who is interested in helping out. its definitely a lot me on my own tho cause im a disabled NEET with too much free time CGRU.net is looking for freelancers to do paid$ work/help with the site. i def want to give back 2 the community
tried to upload the Ozwomp is Arriving soundtrack, but for some reason the album artwork failed to upload and I cant figure out any way to reupload it
you should be able to revisit custom_upload.php and manually enter the same album title and artist name and include the art and a duplicate of any track. (duplicates just replace what exists, and album art is always the most recently uploaded image file that gets glob()'d ) if that doesnt work i can manually fix it
I have been working for the past two years or so on a website for hosting music! I present to you, https://cybergrunge.net !
We have a radio station, over 160 albums uploaded already, and anyone is welcome to add their music The upload process is a bit arcane right now but i am working on a way to make it easier
A lot of the music is friends of mine and friends of their friends etc. There is a lot of variety I mainly know artists that do breakcore, noise music, experimental electronic music, but there is also post-punk, rap, edm, all kinds of other genres on the site.
I get away with this because my host, ionos, doesn't limit my data storage They do limit the NUMBER of files i can have though to a little under a million, but i'll work around that later
Always trying to improve this site, it is my labor of love If you have any feedback or ideas to improve it let me know, you can also sign up for an account to subscribe to the newsletter we put out.
but most of all share music you make! or let musician friends know about it!
This is such an amazing & inspiring tool! It really is a "creative prompt," I feel inspired to write something out of some of the art it generated. Thank you!!
yay!! i'm glad you like it hehe.
there is also now on my website, cybergrunge.net an ai text generator kind of similar to GPT-2 an app that i just made a front-end for. its a really fun creative tool. its technically hosted on a different domain i have: https://antitrance.com/aitextgen.php
This is really cool! I like the output, the randomness, and overall, it almost feel like writing an art generator is a form of art in itself. What motivated you to create it?
yeah i like the idea of making things that make art
for a lot of years i did acrylic painting and assemblage sculpture, but i was always annoyed with the idea of a piece of artwork being "done". i even would get so weird about it that i had in memory every art piece i'd ever sold or given away and sometimes would ask people if i can have it back to add things, until eventually people started saying "i bought it because i like it i don't want you to add anything to it..." and general confusion / annoyance
similar with music albums that i make i never really feel like they are finished and i always release different versions of the album, there are some that ive worked on for years adding tracks here and there. all that makes it a bit hard to market my music or art though
i always liked the idea of art that is more like a living organism that keeps growing and reproducing like a living thing. probably to use an obtuse term that is womb envy maybe but i like to create living systems more than final works/objects! thats why i worked on this, and other projects that serve as creative prompts and generative systems
Yea my expereince with this personally has been terrible. i'd say identifying like the top problems are like
Fomo when friends post pics hanging out without u leading to depression/insecurity
LITERALLY ADDICTIVE like, need for a dopamine rush from notifications/messages
selfies and stuff that pretty much just makes ppl feel better abt themselves by being cooler/hotter than others
TMI with ppl i know IRL like... idk just sharing weird personal stuff that is inappropriate and shouldn't be public.... just a general like, lack of understanding of boundaries as a result...
group chats on facebook etc being a source of paranoia (common and infamous group chats where ppl get sh*t-talk people behind there back)
employers and cops using it (i got arrested as a minor for social media posts - specifically just pics of me trespassing a train yard..)
maybe i am more sensitive that other ppl, i do have schizophrenia apparently:dunno:? but when i quit facebook i literally was in AGONY for the first 2 months or so, like i was SO depressed, SO depersonalized and nothing felt real anymore, which caused me panic attacks and stuff...
just the pure shock of not having social media anymore to distract u from IRL reality, really messed with me. learning to sit in silence with yourself, meditatively, i know is extremely hard for people who use social media! :'(
i genuinely think some day it will be widely understood that social media is harmful and addictive in the same way as cigarettes, drugs, gambling etc. ideally, there should be lawsuits against the companies that profit from this mental harm, but that is not likely
haha. glad you like it, yes i use funny variable names too keep myself entertained :omg:k:
and yeah, i think a lot of the time the errors are just because one of the images that it picks are corrupted somehow, whihc... well, it uses over 6000 image dataset and altho i tried to curate it all somewhat i dont think i have the stamina to check each one idnividually, so yeah. just try again on errors.
i am not sure of a way to just automatically retry the script if an error occurs! it seems like p5.js would have an easy way to do this but i actually saw several other people complaining that there isnt a very easy way to do it inside of p5.js
i do want to try support for gifs some time, there is a gif collage maker on my site too that just loads randdom gifs https://cybergrunge.net/html%20art/stretchygifs (technically they arent gifs but animated png's i think)... file formats are so weird...
im trying to start learning using gd in php to manipulate images too although i havent spent much time on it and p5.js might be easier and more flexible. but yea
I have used p5.js to create a Random Art Generator on my website. The source code is entirely contained in the iframe for the app so you can look at it and modify it if you want. There are four different "modes", and basically you just click on the mode you want, and a piece of unique artwork for you is made! I have used this for inspiration of album art for some of my music, and friends have used it a bit here and there.
The source material for the Art Generator is a huge dataset (over 8,000 images now!) from the Tinypic Archives, available on archive.org courtesy of ArchiveTeam! The images are randomly combined with various filters applied, cropped randomly, but the chaotic randomness is also selectively designed to produce (mostly) cool results!
You can find use it via the icon for Random Art Generator on the upper left hand User Control Panel on my website, https://cybergrunge.net . If you enjoy it definitely share some of the results you get! I will post some of my results here
Thanks everyone. I hope you like this app, it has been a little project of mine for quite a while. Also if you have any questions about how it works feel free to ask or if you make any cool remixes of the code for your own use share them! hopefully it is inspiring to you
