I am alright with Bsky, though I try to only use it to post art. Also, I have had my account since the invite only days.

The way I see it, social media is useful only if you have something to promote: music, art, your website, your game, anything. If not, it's kind of a waste of energy.

To that end, Bluesky is easier than the other three twitter/clones to grow a new account.

That's about all there is to it.

i guess it's probably okay? i don't really feel a need to make an account for it either - i already have my site, this forum, and my smol Discord account that i only chat with my friends in DMs with.

i've once had a BlueSky account, it was made when they still had an invite-only signup thing. though that account has long since been deleted - i never used it anyways, lol

I like Bluesky, but I don't really use it as often as Twitter outside of posting my stuff. In fact, my gamedev account is a little more active than my main. I don't have much say in it otherwise.

oh yeah i use it a lot
it has some flaws from old twitter like old people who seek fights in replies and incomprehensible beefs between large posters but i just avoid them by only following my friends and blocking/muting people i find annoying.  i dont think ive even gotten the first one in my mentions
so pretty chill in my experience

for me personally microblogging with social options isn't good overall. i don't use it for anything personal at all, only for connection with people. and for checking my local community, and it feels like a community. these small good things community (within microblogging limitations, of course) has: local memes, similar experience (negative and positive) and understanding.

but if not about me, i think bluesky is better than twitter 100%, it has kinda its own culture already. plus, many gamedevs/artists moved there.

so if you can forgive some stuff like poor federation, sometimes poor moderation and overall presence of twitter-like mindset of some people, it's cool. especially if you're ok to archive your data just in case you will change your mind about it.

but to be honest, i feel like one day it will go on the way that twitter did. maybe not that insane, but something similar. i guess if you're chill enough to leave the platform if something will go wrong, it's ok. if you feel like it's your main platform that you depend on - it may be painful to see its worsening?

I had an account on BlueSky that I made by the time I've joined Mastodon because I didn't knew what I would use the most. Finally I went for Mastodon because the fact that it was Twitter's founder behind BlueSky made me somewhat cautious. In the end I've deleted my Mastodon account because I didn't liked the "echo chamber effect" it could have sometimes.

After a while I saw some posts saying that Mastodon and BlueSky could bridge to send stuff between them. In the principle, I'm all for it but BlueSky is still a social media and I'm afraid it would turn into the next Instagram or Twitter meaning ads, money, dubious motives for the algorithm, you know the stuff.

I ended up deleting BlueSky and later Mastodon, I'm not built for this kind of stuff. This freed me for more comic-book reading time. For now BlueSky is okay in my bok but I would advise people that are against GAFAM to be careful.

What's GAFAM? Also, I think Jack Dorsey no longer works at Blue Sky iirc.

What's GAFAM?

Ok, so GAFAM stands for Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, (and) Microsoft. it is a slang for "Big Tech".

It is now called GAMAM, (because of the rebrand of Facebook to Meta, but people call it GAFAM)

Sooo... uh yeah. The culture around this forum, they don't like Big Tech.  :ok:

Hey I like all of these companies! Their power is too unchecked and their reach is too vast and I don't want to live in the spaces they create; however all of them have created services and tools that are hugely important to the web ~ I was saying to someone in a chat today that Google is the most important indie website for me because without Google the web revival would never have needed to exist

As for Bluesky; it was created by Twitter to be another Twitter - if it succeeds it will be another Twitter and I think Twitter is one of the biggest disasters in web culture. I don't think that being decentralised solves anything because thats a technical solution to what was a cultural problem.

Giving everyone 120 characters to scream at each other in a vast semi-anonymous echo chamber is and always will be a horrible idea - it took us a long time to learn than, and I'm really confused why everyone thinks a happier future for the web will be created by replicating it. "Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results"  :drat:

I made a bluesky just to get my little custom username thing there (since you can have your neocities url as your username). I barely use it, only followed some youtubers I like and a photographer who I think takes nice pictures. I find it very hard to get any interaction there at all, which is a shame, since it could've been a fun way to update people when I've posted a new page of my webcomic  it's been hard to make mutuals on there, and I have no clue where to start, really.

anyway, it seems better than twitter from what I've seen. But then again, I was never really on twitter much either.

bsky feels weird.
i escaped from twt to bsky cos of the bots but it feels like the users themselves on bsky act like bots with the way they talk and type

honestly probably the people i follow. but generally it's less interesting compared to twt too

I like Bluesky better than what came before, in large part because it's significantly easier to curate your experience. Blocks are very powerful on Bluesky, and there's less (though not none) engagement baiting due to follow feeds being more emphasized and algorithms being user-customizable, as well as yknow, not paying people for gaining interactions.

If I'm seeing people post things that just makes me feel miserable, I can unfollow them and they generally don't flood my feed anymore. If someone is actively hostile or bigoted, I can block them and never have to see them again. But most importantly, if I stick to following people who also oppose bigotry, and block rather than engage, then I almost will never see it because blocking a user hides them from other users on your post as well. Blocking people removes your quoted post if someone tries to quote dunk you. There's far less incentive to get into and broadcast flame wars across the platform, and they're easier to avoid or do something about it when you do see them.

Some might call that an echo chamber, but it all depends on how you use it and your own tolerance level. I don't think we were ever meant to be exposed to an endless faucet of every batty thought to appear in anyone's head at all times being treated as equally valid and platformed amongst one another. I'm actually really cool with not being constantly exposed to arguments against my existence.

So definitely a far sight better than the likes of Twitter. As opposed to the more independent web, it's obviously a different experience and I can understand people considering it to still be a more toxic one. It's still an endless feed of content and easy to doomscroll and to care or worry about engagement on your posts or reduce complex topics to 300 character quips. But I think it's useful for finding and sharing art, lots of indie games and projects I were exposed to on Bluesky. Social media like this has always been about discoverability, in a world where unfortunately most people and content are centralized to these platforms.

Personally, it's a better Twitter/X social. I had tried it in the past and deleted my account never looking back. Like the inspiration, Bluesky is NOT going to be for everyone. When I used it, there was a lot of AI supportive kiddies and I honestly didn't like that. Even the fact that I posted in deep opposition of it was enough to have someone mouth off to me. Takes five seconds to block the person than comment snark in twenty but you do you bud...

I think the main thing that got me to leave as well was the publicized blocked lists. I don't doubt it has some plus sides to it, but I almost always go to the negativity. Public blocks being recorded seems like it would cause more potential for harassment like the comment I described getting but to a severe extent... Maybe I just said all that because I have about 100 and counting on my Facebook block list.
