Epilepsy Warning: The page linked in this post features a rapidly flashing background.

Does anyone have any resources they would recommend for learning html and css? That being courses. I'm thinking of maybe looking at Brilliant next year. Not sure. I know about w3schools, but I'm maybe looking for something a bit more structured as opposed to a resource.

Currently working on making a Neocities, but I'm quite new to this stuff. I started html on SpaceHey and I'm tryna get more into it.

Thanks guys :3  :ha:

A good approach, and is what I did to learn, is thinking of what you want to make, i.e a simple home page. Then find a page you like the look of and use the "inspector" element on your browser by right clicking > inspect. This is a good way to see how pages are built and how CSS classes work with them.

When you get stuck trying to make something, I recommend using w3. If you're having a hard time thinking of a project or getting started in general, I would recommend code academy free courses, The Odin project or just looking up videos on youtube.

Edit: I would recommend changing your background to something else, that could seriously trigger someone's epilepsy.

Yea I do that. I've actually found the everyone site here to be very useful! The issue with f12 is not every site is open source, or at least fully open source :T The everyone sites good cus you can see the code urself and edit it and see what happens and revert and stuff.

I have thought about that. I think I'd rather add a warning at the beginning then change the whole thing. I'll look into that soon.

I agree. Would probably be good if you created some sort of non-blinking entry page with a warning, @Stonmann

I recommend HTML for People for starting out! I feel it's more structured than W3Schools, and explains things in a very human way.

I highly recommend freeCodeCamp! The first module on responsive web design contains a good chunk of the basics of CSS & HTML, and it then continues onto things that aren't necessary for a static website like on neocities, but are still useful if you decide you enjoy this whole web development thing! Plus, you get a certificate out of it :]
I then find w3schools is good for filling in anything it might miss, or refreshing on stuff.

i used W3Schools. they always explain things super well

for HTML:
https://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
for CSS:
https://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp
for SCSS (CSS but better):
https://www.w3schools.com/sass/default.asp

you can also dm me or something on discord. just tell me you came from melonland or i might not respond :3

fyi modern css supports almost everything scss/sass supports, inlcuding nesting, so I think it's a lot easier to avoid using scss these days
