Curious to hear everybody's favourite point and click/hidden object games!! They've been a huge source of comfort for me in recent years. I've been forming quite the collection through Prime Gaming redemptions (stinky subscription, I know) and I'd like to play more as they scratch a specific part of my brain and I like that I can usually complete them in one sitting. I know people really enjoy the Mystery Case Files series, and I've played a handful of Nancy Drew games, but I'm curious if there are any hidden gems that I'm missing.

I used to play those kinds of games a lot when I was around 6 but mainly just 3 games as those were the ones that my dad had put on my desktop for me to play. I very recently found them again when I was feeling down and needed something nostalgic to bright me up. After scouring the Big Fish game catalogue I finally found them and then bought them for the first time as I'm pretty sure my dad just pirated them. Safe to say, those three games really cheered me up  :seal:

The games in question are: Alexandra Fortune - Mystery of the Lunar Archipelago, Treasures of Mystery Island and Treasure Seekers - Visions of Gold

I don't necessarily know if they are actually good point and click/hidden object games as my experience of them is very biased on nostalgia so I am also eager to know what games you really liked and whether you have one of those games which you have again and again.

Ah I love a nostalgia story  :chef: thank you for sharing, I'll try to check them out!

I didn't actually grow up with this style of game so a lot of them blend together as they're so similar in style, but some standouts for me are all four The Room games, Trüberbrook was an absolute standout to me in terms of style and passion, I absolutely adored that. I also remember enjoying Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles! This site is really good for picking up free HOGs so I'm trying Adam Wolfe now! I'm hoping to get back to my Nancy Drew backlog soon, they are just way harder for me than I care to admit so I have to be using all of my braincells when I play  :ha:

The only one I've played is a modern one on steam, a duology called The Darkside Detective. Basically it's about two occult detectives and it's very very tongue-in-cheek and goofy.

Ooo boi this thread is my home!
Graphic adventures are among my favourite genres... better said, I'd say they even surpass rhythm and puzzle games on the fav genre podium!

It's true lately they may have been mingled with object finding games, but luckily there's enough newly made titles sticking to the classic formula to keep the genre strong.

About my favourite titles, I find myself liking the LucasArts works more and in particular Full Throttle is the one I always reccommend. It's so perfect :'3

Both the classic version and the remaster are very good!

Stepping away from the LucasArt makers I especially love the Broken Sword series. Shadow of the Templars was infact my first P&C adventure back in the 90s and I got enamoured by the animated artstyle!

Even though they've experimented with 3d graphics and different mechanics with various degrees of success in later episodes, I still think it's a very high quality experience through and through.

As for more recent titles, I can't help but reccommend Gibbous, very fun and well animated!

I consider myself as a connoisseur in this genre. I believe I've played much more, but this is what I can recollect (and enjoyed!):

-Beneath a Steel Sky: Pretty good, and available for free. The robot-companion is great :).
-First three Monkey Island games: Is there something needed to say about these? The humor is great, the art design, writing, and the OST are charming.
-Sam and Max: Never finished it, but I love it.
-Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis: I heard the other Indiana Jones games are great as well, but I'm not sure anymore which of them I did actually play - but I can still say this one has a wonderful humor. Some of the riddles at the end are absurd!
-Beneath a Steel Sky: A crashed plane, leather trousers, and dinosaurs. This game is hilarious! Again a free title.
-Blackwell Series: Enjoyed it, but never got fully into it - it took itself a bit too serious for my taste, but maybe I was in a bad mood when I played it.
-The Shiva: This again, is liked very well. A rabbi solving a murder case, wonderful, dry humor.
-Tex Murphy: Under a killing Moon. This is a great one, damn it. The engine needs a bit to get into, but the writing is pristine.
-Tex Murphy: The Pandora Directive. Still quite good, but I recommend to play Killing Moon over it, if you only want to check out one of them.
-Broken Sword 1/2: Both were pretty good, and have a great ratio of adventure:humor.
-The Pink Panther: Hokus Pokus Pink: This was a childhood-hit for me, and I've still utmost fond memories of it - it had both a nice humor, and also opened some pretty fantastic worlds - including a lair of radio-actively mutated rats and mount Olympus. It tries to provide education, and rather basic one at that - so it probably ain't of much interest to adults.

Naturally I forgot to follow my own thread and didn't realise people had shown interest in here, whoops. :drat:

Thank you all for your input and lists, I'll be referring back to this regularly and let you all know what I think of the recommendations! I didn't grow up with this genre so I knew I was missing a lot of the unsung heroes and I'm excited to dive in to your nostalgia. I find point and click games are quite good at silly or tongue in cheek humour and that's a huge part of why I love them so much so it's nice to see comments on some of the humour in the games

Coming back to say: I absolutely forgot to mention Return to Monkey Island.
Taking up a series with Monkey Islands fame is difficult, and usually, the results are sobering - even more so since a big budget is often more a hindrance than a benefit when it comes to the charm of a game - it worked out well in this case, and it drives the whole series to the end it deserved: Humble, but poetic.

Would you say MYST is a point and click?  It's first person and a bit more of a puzzle adventure game, but navigation and puzzle interaction is all point and click, no keyboard required.  If so, easily my favorite of all time.  I haven't even finished the series, but I've played through MYST and RIVEN multiple times, and found myself obsessed with more actiony games too many times to get properly into MYST 3+, plus all the shenanigans with being unable to buy 3 and 5 for a long time.  Excuses aside, I'm reinstalling MYST 3 and up as I write this, I can't wait

the sam and max games! my favorite in the series is the devil's playhouse but they're all really great. hit the road is super hard without a guide but that seems common for old point and click adventure games lol, and i love the pixel art style games of that era had
*edit, offtopic, how is this max jpg transparent?? never seen that before
