Enter the Multiverse

I don't know if this site is common knowledge around here, but I've never seen it mentioned anywhere until yesterday and there seem to be no threads about it, so I'll share..

I stumbled across the Multiverse site! (If it's down one day, here's an archive link)



It's a small project that I would describe as Tumblr-esque if I had to categorize it into the few well known sites, but the twist is that the post editor lets you create pretty freely; dragging stuff around, different background images, fonts, scribbles, arranging pictures and text freely. It's more like you're creating a collage or a page on paper with stickers and other cool stuff than just typing in a text field and having it displayed just as dark text on white background; here's an example.
You can see the "timeline" of posts here, even without an account.

I don't have an account there (yet? I am not sure) but I love that it exists. The news section is a little bleak, but I hope they're finding a way to continue the project maybe they can find some supporters in this community, too.

Oh yeah, it was one of the first websites I joined when I stumbled upon this whole less known side of the net.

It's so entertaining to watch how differently people interpret it and build their posts!

I will say, however, that I haven't got much thoughts on how to use it. I've made some stuff, but as it turns out collages are not much my thing :( I come back there sometimes, when I have A Thought tho. For now it mostly showcases my weird emotional state from 2022.

Here I am, although there's not much use in a link without a follow option, I suppose! :D

I guess finding its usage niche is pretty difficult when you already got other outlets and services; I think if I didn't have smol.pub yet, I might consider it more. Others might already have a bearblog, or Tumblr, Dreamwidth, spacehey.. and updating in multiple places that more or less do the same feels weird or useless. Being established somewhere else already is really hindering in adopting new sites, especially when its future might be unclear. Feels risky to put a lot of effort into stuff that can be gone tomorrow.

I really appreciate this idea though of publishing on the same site you're visually creating on, using the site to create (disregarding websites on neocities as art for the sake of the argument right now). Usually we have our devices (tablet, drawing tablet, pen, paper, whatever) and our software (Photoshop, GIMP, Krita etc.) where we create some art, then save and upload. I like the concept of offering something Paint-esque together with a texteditor that also already publishes and hosts it.
This is also why cohost peaked my interest as well, with the people who really push the boundaries on what posts can contain and making little games on it.

Ooh, I hadn't heard of this. It reminds me of making silly art projects in powerpoint during middle school classes. I love the whole concept of it.
