Recently I've been quite fascinated by Weasel Walter, an American drummer and composer who is mostly known for leading the Flying Luttenbachers and its rotating cast of musicians. He plays death metal, noise rock, no wave, free jazz, and all sorts of extreme music (he himself coined the term "brutal prog" to describe it). It's super fun and he has really opened my world up to all sorts of music I wouldn't have listened to before.

I recommend the Luttenbachers' "Losing the War Inside Our Heads", their most recent offering. Delicious noise rock, not quite as avant-garde as some of their other records. It was what got me into the band in the first place!

If you are willing to dive into something a little more out there, I recommend the album "Katyusha" on which he is joined by bassist Teté Leguía and saxophone maniac (endearing) Martín Escalante. It is some furious improvised music ("ballistic fire music that starts where the most berserk, intense free music begins and then sustains that, then pushes it further." :skull: ), a record on which Martín and Teté weave dense textures of noise that W.W. stitches together with his drumming, making for a peculiar and exciting experience.

Weasel has played in many groups and has amassed a large catalogue of music, which in my opinion is totally worth exploring! it's lots of fun to do so~!

I don't know if he counts as "strange" or "obscure", but Djo's music has really grown on me! That's the artist name of Joe Keery, actor from Stranger Things :P

oh, threads like this are what i was made for... imagine me, if you will, cracking my knuckles and opening up a hoard of records/cds/mp3s...

first of all, the vintage. i've got

sunforest: 60s psych trio whose medieval revival aesthetic i can't help but be obsessed with

peter straker: in a kinder world he'd be a household name and queer icon. close friend of freddie mercury and incredible performer.

libby morris: very quirky theatre artist with exactly one live album to her name. super ahead of her time imo.

jobriath: considered by many to be the first openly queer rockstar. tragically passed away of aids-related complications in '83, but left behind his incredible art.

team dresch: 90s queercore my beloved...

and now, the contemporary... most of whom are friends of mine/local artists but don't mind that lol

webpage 505: okay this is actually my band LOL but i think we really killed it with this track. good luck trying to pin it to a single genre!

mamfy: twinkly electronic bleepbloops that make me feel like i'm floating!

dust cwaine: drag artist turned musician and generally considered a legend in the local arts scene where i'm from. theyve really grown as an artist over the last few years and im obsessed with it!

cat.flp: going to link her kawaii jerk album here, but her discography has some frankly ridiculous range lol. this is just one of her biggest releases

kitty prozac: i think the title of this track speaks for itself.

kate yahn: i dont know how this isnt more popular. this is such good pop!!!

plusol: absolutely delicious electronics going on here.

devours: genuinely this artist's soundscapes are such inspirations to me. they're so fun!!!

autoheartvan: where else are you gonna get a polari political anthem?

stanza lune: dont mind me self-promoting again. but i think this song turned out very cool

Totally recommend the band Hiroshima. They are an R&B band from Japan that also fuses traditional Japanese instruments into their music as well.

I found out about this band from an abandoned Hiroshima East CD at my local library sale. Turns out there was no CD in it and this lead me into researching them from home.(Bonus I kept the CD because of how nice the art was on it.)

I listened to their album L.A. and that became a fun listening experience of hearing the mixtures of saxophone playing and string music from within the songs.
