I'm someone who generally is very hit and miss with apples! But when I went on holiday to the US I found honey crisp and sugar bee(?) apples... omg!!! They were my perfect crisp and sweet apples and we don't get them here  :tnt:

Pink Ladies are often nice, once I got a really good pack of braeburns that were perfectly balanced for me and I've never had ones that nice since!  :ok:

idk what they are specifically i guess?? but there's these little mini-apples that come into season in the early to mid summer months that i just adore-- they're like the size of a plum, maybe a little bigger, and im obsessed with them omg. they make a great quick snack and they taste wonderful  :cheesy:

Oh! Someone who knows SugarBee apples? <3 That's very rare, but they're rapidly increasing in popularity. I don't think I've ever tasted a sweeter apple variety. Perfect for snacking, great amount of juice. I would also highly recommend the SweeTango next time you're stateside. It has a softer, brown sugar texture and flavour.

I live in Minnesota, and we take apples very seriously here. The SugarBee was developed in Minnesota, and the Honeycrisp, which is the mother of the SugarBee and numerous other new varieties, was developed by the University of Minnesota in 1991. The SweeTango is another one; the U of M has developed 29 apple varieties alone, and cultivates many more not originally developed by the campus. We have a rich cidery culture, and cidermakers are always coming to the U of M to experiment with more varieties, and hear of the latest research. The apples exhibit is one of my favourites at the Minnesota State Fair.

My favourite local cidery is
Keepsake Cidery. They produce amazing blends, and all on very little land compared to a traditional cidery. They use dwarf root stocks, grown very closely together, that are latticed together to keep them upright, as the weight of the grafted apples are actually too heavy for the trees to support and they'll topple over otherwise.

Honeycrisp and pink lady. Also cosmic crisp but I haven't seen those in store for awhile.

I need that perfect balance of tart, sweet, and crunchy. Apples that feel like sand in your mouth is the worst.

granny smith is my favorite, but close second is gala! but i'm not really picky, i'll get whatever apples are on sale at my grocery store. i think the only variety i don't really like is red delicious, is that anyone's favorite?

since i haven't seen it linked in this thread, there's a site that has rankings of different apple varieties if anyone is interested.

Oooh, I was just about to link that site! Excellent site for reference if you're an apple fan. I've always loved Gala and still do, but they're less popular where I am, and the stores don't always have them. Envy and Fuji are also favorites of mine, although the site doesn't rate them as in the highest tier. But then I've tried others that are pretty high ranking and didn't think they were all that much.

Apple Ranking's Red Delicious review is pretty scathing. I hate Red Delicious with a passion and everyone else I know does as well.

I do love reading through the bad reviews for the worst apples. Here's the lowest ranking one on the site: Newtown Pippin Apple

I've been growing fond of Sugar Bee and Lucy Glo apples lately! Though when it comes to apple I'm pretty open to any apple, I only really eat them sliced or as part of a larger dish! I love trying new apples, there are so many kinds in so many places.

Oooh just had a look at their website and their ciders look fabulous! Haven't been a cider drinker in years now, but I'd defo have a go of those  :dive:

My favourite are Cosmic Crisp  :melon: (not an apple, but still  :ok: )

I first learnt of them in this video, but many years would have to pass before they reached by country's shelves so I could try them on my own.

They are exactly as described in the video: sweet, crispy, and incredibly, incredibly juicy. Feels like it's filled with apple juice instead of apple... flesh? Anyway if you're ever in an airport and they don't let you carry liquids with you, bring these apples instead. Guaranteed to never go thirsty with them.  :seal:
