Does anyone here work with tech in their career, or have aspirations to?

I don't directly, but i'm a marine biologist who uses a lot of statistics so i've picked up some programming skills along the way.

I am a web developer! My first website was a Neocities site and was where I got my first taste for coding. I found it so fun and decided to change my career. I was a graphic designer before which was why I attracted to the "web punk" aesthetics that has cultivated throughout a lot of amazing sites.

yeah i do backend web development / devops type things. i originally wanted to do gamedev but i turns out i don't have the aptitude for the industry. maybe one day i'll quit and live off savings for a while and make my dream game. but honestly right now i mostly like my job! programming isn't my fav thing ever but it's fun when i get in the groove of it

i had an incredible moment recently where one of my coworkers brought up "uwubernetes". apparently the latest release of kubernetes, a system for deploying & managing applications we use is called uwubernetes. and one of the authors of it confirmed the reason for the name:

Quote
yes it's called uwubernetes, yes i did it to pander to terminally online furries and to make rich old white guys have to say uwu. yw

I do this for a living, and I'm gonna give you the Devil's honest truth here: it's a lousy day job for any sort of artist. Sure, it can pay well, but it's thankless, dehumanizing work to have to think like a computer for at least 40 hours week.

I honestly can't tell if mental illness is a prerequisite for this sort of work, or an occupational hazard.

I do something sort of similar! I'm not working at the moment, but I'm doing my postgrad working with genomics software. It's technically a biochem degree, but it's really just a CS thesis masquerading as one :dive:

I'm an "IT Analyst" AKA I do everything from help desk to sysadmin to networking for a smaller business. I'd like to get out and find a REAL IT job, but sometimes you just get too comfortable.

I'm still in school but I do a couple of tech-related odd jobs every now and then if that counts. But I plan to get a web development degree when I got to college.
