I've written 9 different guides (so far) on getting started with HTML

Last week, I almost got into an argument with someone who was trying to say that creating and owning a website was as unattainable as buying a house in 2025. And, I thought that was really wild. Because making a website is easy, and costs you zero dollars. But then I remembered, I've been doing stuff like this since I was like 16 years old in 1999.

So, instead of thinking, "Man, what do people even do with their time anymore?" I started up a bunch of guides on how to make a website from scratch, and then how to get it up onto Neocities.

I don't try to toot my own horn much here, and I'm sure almost nobody even knows my name, but I wanted to share it for other budding web developers out there who are lost on where to start with making a website.

This looks like a really well put together guide! (And those are always welcome) I had a quick skim of it and I have some small bits of feedback if you are looking for feedback!

1. The linux setup instructions also apply to mac; just add "Cmd + Space: and search: terminal then hit enter" - that would be a good way to get mac owners started using the terminal too (terminal is the linux gateway drug  ) - Cyberduck is also for mac.

2. There are a lot of eyes and faces in the columns beside your guide content; and while I'm a big fan of homepages being covered in eyes and faces ~ for info pages it makes it quite hard to focus on the info content because humans naturally want to look at eyes and faces more than words. If you broke the guides out of your normal layout, or had a script to dim the side content away, that would improve its legibility. Same goes for the pure black background; I know from experience with this forum that a lot of people struggle with super-high contrast text and it's helpful to have the option to switch into something softer.

3. A "next tutorial" link at the end of each would be helpful for people following along.

4. In the upload guide, you're instructing people upload to neocities via WebDAV - this only works for paid supporter accounts; the only free account alternative to the web interface is the CLI; and possibly GIT publishing? (Iv never used git publishing)!

I think thats all! Your writing seems really clear and enjoyable to follow and you go into some topics that most guides completely forget about; like the robots.txt    I think its a good guide (it makes mine look like a mess  ) its well worth keeping it going!

Hey thanks for the feedback  I'll definitely take a look at maybe reducing the amount of distractions on the page, and also dang, I never realized WebDAV mounting was only for paid members (probably because I just started paying Neocities as soon as I signed up).

Plus, website builders DO exist. I have a lot of friends who use them! They are similarly free, and have a much lower time investment... I have a couple friends who use it 4 that reason. I got started out with templates myself, haha. I think that w3 schools has been the most helpful resource 4 me so far. As well as forum posts... I love how everything I get confused with already has another person who got confused and asked a question before me. I hope (and can't wait until) someday I'll ask a question that nobody else has asked before me. It might not be that likely, but the internet is always burning down its shelves... So maybe it's a good thing 2 repeat questions as well! ^ u ^
